Royals placed LHP Brian Flynn on the 60-day disabled list with a stable lumbar vertebral fracture.

Flynn suffered the injury before camp when he fell through the roof of his barn. He's expected to be sidelined for eight weeks, so he'll miss the start of the season. The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Travis Wood on the 40-man roster.

Brian Flynn suffered a broken rib and other unspecified injuries after falling through the roof of his barn in the days before reporting to camp.

Well, at least Flynn has this year's weirdest baseball injury already sewed up. The expectation is that he'll miss eight weeks, so he'll begin the year on the disabled list. Flynn, 26, posted a 2.60 ERA and 44/23 K/BB ratio over 55 1/3 innings with the Royals last season.

Making his first start for the Royals, Brian Flynn gave up three runs in 2 1/3 innings Tuesday against the Indians.

Flynn was on a pitch count tonight after spending the last month in the Royals pen, but the team was hoping for more than this. The word going in was that he wasn't guaranteed anything beyond the one start. We'd like to see the Royals stick with him for a little while, but they have alternatives.

Brian Flynn will start Tuesday's game against the Indians.

He'll take Chris Young's spot in the starting rotation. The left-hander has performed well in a middle relief role this year, compiling a 2.39 ERA over 13 appearances. Flynn isn't guaranteed another start, so he'll need a strong performance Tuesday to keep his spot in the rotation. The Royals could be in the market for a starting pitcher at the trade deadline.

Royals recalled LHP Brian Flynn from Triple-A Omaha.

Flynn has seen 7 1/3 innings of work with the defending champs this season, surrendering four runs on five hits with a 6/4 K/BB ratio in that space. He figures to continue playing chutes and ladders between Kansas City and Omaha throughout the course of the 2016 season.

Royals optioned LHP Brian Flynn to Triple-A Omaha.

The 26-year-old southpaw continues to shuffle back and forth between the Royals and Triple-A whenever the big league club needs an extra arm. Flynn owns a 4.91 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 6/4 K/BB ratio over 7 1/3 innings with the Royals.

Royals optioned LHP Brian Flynn to Triple-A Omaha.

Flynn was knocked around for eight runs over seven innings of work this spring. The soon-to-be 26-year-old missed all of last season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn lat muscle.

Royals activated LHP Brian Flynn from the 60-day disabled list.

Flynn didn't throw a pitch for the Royals in 2015 after suffering a left lat tear early in the year. He'll have a chance to win a roster spot come spring.

Royals recalled LHP Brian Flynn from Triple-A Omaha; placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a left lat tear.

It's a procedural move made in order to add Joe Blanton to the 40-man roster. Flynn has been limited to just one game this season but is hoping to be back at some point during the second half.

Brian Flynn will miss the next 3-5 months after being diagnosed with a torn lat muscle.

He doesn't need surgery, but the rehab is a long one. It's possible Flynn could be back at some point in August, but the Royals surely aren't counting on him this season now. The lefty didn't make the Opening Day roster despite a strong 2.57 ERA and 13/1 K/BB ratio over 14 innings in spring training.

Brian Flynn has traveled back to Kansas City to be examined for a possible lat muscle injury.

Flynn, who was acquired from the Marlins over the winter in the Aaron Crow deal, was optioned to Triple-A Omaha at the end of spring training. There should be more clarity on his status soon.

Royals optioned LHP Brian Flynn to Triple-A Omaha.

Flynn was terrific with a 2.57 ERA and 13/1 K/BB ratio over 14 innings, but he lost out on a roster spot because he had options remaining. He'll spend plenty of time in the majors this season.

Royals acquired LHP Brian Flynn and RHP Reid Redman from the Marlins in exchange for RHP Aaron Crow.

Flynn holds an 8.64 ERA over 25 innings at the big league level but has flashed some promise in the minors. He's a big left-hander who could either wind up as a back-end of the rotation starter or possible bullpen arm. Flynn will turn just 25 in April.
