It's no surprise that De La Torre was claimed after being designated for assignment, as he holds a career 2.82 ERA with 410 strikeouts over 392 minor league innings. He'll be an option for the big league bullpen next year.

Now the Red Sox have De La Torre and Zach Stewart to show for Kevin Youkilis. De La Torre, 26, owns a solid 2.86 ERA over parts of six seasons in the minors, including a 2.91 ERA and 58/21 K/BB ratio over 55 2/3 innings this season between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. He's a little old to be considered a prospect, but may eventually make it as a reliever.
