The Padres are expected to purchase the contract of C Eddy Rodriguez from High-A Lake Elsinore.

This would seem to indicate that Yasmani Grandal (oblique) will require a stint on the disabled list. Rodriguez, a 26-year-old journeyman catcher, is currently flying to Cincinnati to join the team. He was hitting .223/.269/.381 with 13 homers and 36 RBI in 87 games at Lake Elsinore, while striking out 100 times in just 328 at-bats. The Padres would have to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to make room for the light-hitting Rodriguez.
