Mariners claimed C Tuffy Gosewisch off waivers from the Braves.

Atlanta claimed Gosewisch from the Diamondbacks in mid-November and avoided arbitration with him a few weeks later on a one-year, $635,000 deal. That contract now gets transferred to Seattle, where the 33-year-old catcher will be on the outside looking in for a major league roster spot behind Mike Zunino and Carlos Ruiz. Monetary terms of Gosewisch's contract are not yet known. The Braves claimed the 33-year-old backstop off waivers from the Diamondbacks in mid-November. In 392 big league at-bats, Gosewisch owns a .199/.237/.286 triple-slash with five homers and 30 RBI. He figures to have a shot at securing a backup role in spring training, but there is no fantasy intrigue here.

Tuffy Gosewisch went 2-for-4 and clobbered his third home run of the season in a losing effort against the Red Sox on Friday.

This coming after he homered and tripled against the Mets on Thursday. Even with his two-hit attack, he's still hitting just .208/.235/.438 with three homers and seven RBI on the season.
