Diamondbacks optioned C Tuffy Gosewisch to Triple-A Reno.

That means Chris Herrmann has won the backup catcher job. Gosewisch missed most of the 2015 season after blowing out his knee.
Mar 31 - 6:22 PM

Tuffy Gosewisch (knee) said he's "100 percent ready to go" this spring.

Gosewisch missed most of the 2015 season after tearing the ACL in his left knee last May. "I've been doing everything -- catching, hitting, throwing, running bases, and haven't had any setbacks," he said Thursday. "There are no limitations. It's all been good." He's expected to back up Welington Castillo in Arizona this season.

Diamondbacks activated C Tuffy Gosewisch from the 60-day disabled list.

It's a procedural move that returns him to the 40-man roster. Gosewisch missed most of 2015 and could get a late start to 2016 after tearing his ACL.

Diamondbacks transferred C Tuffy Gosewisch to the 60-day disabled list.

Gosewisch suffered a torn ACL in late May and is out for the season. Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Oscar Hernandez will handle the catching duties with Gosewisch sidelined.

Tuffy Gosewisch has been diagnosed with a full tear of his left ACL.

Gosewisch will undergo season-ending surgery soon. It's a real bummer for a 31-year-old who was getting his first shot at a starting job in the big leagues. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is the Diamondbacks' new starting catcher.

Tuffy Gosewisch revealed Friday that he likely has an ACL tear in his left knee.

It sounds like he'll receive at least one more opinion before making a decision on surgery, but it appears his season is likely over. Jarrod Saltalamacchia has taken Gosewisch's spot on the roster and should serve as the Diamondbacks' starting catcher indefinitely.

Diamondbacks placed C Tuffy Gosewisch on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 28, with a left ACL injury.

Gosewisch injured the knee while trying to beat out an infield single on Wednesday. It's not clear at this point if the ligament will require surgery, but if it does it would obviously knock Gosewisch out for the season. Jarrod Saltalamacchia has taken his spot on the roster.

Tuffy Gosewisch will have an MRI taken of his left knee Thursday.

Gosewisch left Wednesday's game with a jammed left knee, and the Diamondbacks want to know the extent of the injury before developing a gameplan. Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said the club could make a decision about a possible disabled list stint by Friday.

Tuffy Gosewisch left Wednesday's game against the Cardinals with a jammed left knee.

Gosewisch likely jammed the knee stretching to touch first base while trying to beat out a throw in the sixth inning. A jammed knee doesn't sound terribly serious, but the Diamondbacks should give a clearer outlook for the backstop by Thursday. Jordan Pacheco will likely fill in at catcher if Gosewisch is forced to miss time.

Tuffy Gosewisch left Wednesday's game against the Cardinals with an apparent knee injury.

Gosewisch appeared to hurt his left knee trying to beat out a throw to first base. He stayed on the ground beyond first base for a while before leaving with a trainer. Jordan Pacheco replaced Gosewisch, who was 0-for-3 in the game, behind the dish.

Tuffy Gosewisch went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored as the Diamondbacks beat the Rockies in the second game of Wednesday's double-header.

It's only the second multi-hit game of the season for Gosewisch, who entered the day with a .399 OPS. He stole only eight bases in 21 attempts over nine seasons in the minors, so don't expect many more swipes throughout the rest of the season. He doesn't have any fantasy use as is.

Tuffy Gosewisch went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 10-2 Cactus League win over the White Sox.

Gosewisch, now batting .357 (15-for-42) in Cactus League action, will open the season as the Diamondbacks' starting catcher. The 31-year-old has only 179 career big league plate appearances and a career .677 OPS in 654 PA at the Triple-A level. Nevertheless, the catching-depleted D'Backs will be counting on him to learn on the job.

Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart said Tuesday that he will not make an addition at catcher.

The D-Backs have been mentioned as possibilities for Dioner Navarro of the Blue Jays and Welington Castillo of the Cubs, but barring a change of heart, they are likely to go into the season with a weak combo of Tuffy Gosewisch and Rule 5 pick Oscar Hernandez. Stewart says his stance is based on the development of prospect Peter O'Brien, who was acquired from the Yankees in the Martin Prado deal last year. "I've decided that I'm not going to pursue another catcher," said Stewart. "I talked with my people and my coaching staff. They believe that O'Brien is going to be around sooner than later. If that does happen, there's no need to go out and get another guy." Stewart is expressing a lot of faith in O'Brien, who needs to make improvements behind the plate.

Tuffy Gosewisch singled in the go-ahead run as the Diamondbacks beat the Indians 1-0 in 12 innings in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

It was the sixth RBI this year for Gosewisch, who, despite spending the entire season as Miguel Montero's backup, has appeared in just 27 games and picked up a total of 84 at-bats.
