Angels claimed LHP Brooks Raley off waivers from the Twins; assigned him to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Raley was one of the Twins' first cuts this spring and got removed from the 40-man roster Thursday to clear a spot for right-handed reliever Matt Guerrier. The 25-year-old left-hander opened the season with a 3.68 ERA in 14 2/3 innings at Triple-A Rochester. He will now function as organizational relief depth for the Angels.

Twins optioned LHPs Brooks Raley, Logan Darnell and Edgar Ibarra, 1B Kenny Vargas, RHP Trevor May, OF Max Kepler and 2B Jorge Polanco to Triple-A Rochester; reassigned OFs Byron Buxton and Chris Rahl, 3B Miguel Sano, RHPs Alex Meyer, Lester Oliveros and Yohan Pino and Cs Kyle Knudson, Matt Koch and Stuart Turner to minor league camp.

There are obviously some big names in this group, most notably top prospects Buxton, Sano and Meyer, but none of the cuts are surprising. Buxton could possibly make his major league debut by the end of the season, while Sano will miss the year following Tommy John surgery. Meyer could begin the season at Triple-A.
