Steve Geltz has elected free agency.

Geltz was outrighted to Triple-A Colorado Springs over the weekend. While he has elected to become a free agent rather than accept that assignment, the possibility remains that he could re-up with the Brewers prior to spring training. The club initially picked the 29-year-old right-hander up off waivers from the Rays at the end of November. He pitched to a rough 5.74 ERA in 26 2/3 frames with Tampa Bay last season.

Brewers sent RHP Steve Geltz outright to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The veteran right-hander was claimed off waivers from the Rays last week. This move temporarily removes him from the club's 40-man roster, though he's still expected to secure an invitation to spring training where he will compete for a spot in the team's Opening Day bullpen.

Brewers claimed RHP Steve Geltz off waivers from the Rays.

Geltz was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay earlier this month. He posted an underwhelming 5.74 ERA in 26 2/3 innings of relief this past season for the Rays, but his peripheral numbers have always been decent and the 29-year-old right-hander figures to be in the running for an Opening Day bullpen job next spring with the Brewers.

Rays designated RHP Steve Geltz for assignment.

The Rays needed to clear a few spots on the 40-man roster after Friday's trade with the Mariners and Geltz looks to be the odd-man out. The 29-year-old hurler registered a 5.74 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 23/9 K/BB ratio across 26 2/3 innings out of the Rays' bullpen in 2016.

Rays optioned RHP Steve Geltz to Triple-A Durham.

Geltz was just with the club for one day as an extra bullpen arm and will head back down to make room on the roster for Alex Cobb who is set to be activated on Monday. Expect to see Geltz back with the big league club when rosters expand later this week.

Steve Geltz is dealing with a swollen right eye following an allergic reaction.

Steve Geltz, making a spot start, threw two perfect innings to help the Rays blank the Nationals by a 5-0 score on Wednesday.

Geltz has contributed almost entirely as a reliever this season, so that's why he didn't stay in longer. He threw 19 pitches, retiring all six batters he faced with one strikeout. Matt Andriese took over for Geltz in the third and threw four scoreless innings. Geltz had started and went two innings in one start back in April.

Steve Geltz will start on Wednesday against the Nationals.

Previously scheduled starter Matt Andriese will still pitch, but he'll come out of the bullpen. The Rays did something similar in a road interleague series with Geltz back on April 10, as he went two innings then before being followed by Erasmo Ramirez.

Steve Geltz notched his first major league save by pitching a scoreless ninth Wednesday against the Red Sox.

This comes 12 days after he made his first big-league start. Geltz probably won't be a threat for more saves with Jake McGee out. His stuff is fine, but his control leaves quite a bit to be desired.
