Brewers sent RHP Steve Geltz outright to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
The veteran right-hander was claimed off waivers from the Rays last week. This move temporarily removes him from the club's 40-man roster, though he's still expected to secure an invitation to spring training where he will compete for a spot in the team's Opening Day bullpen. Dec 3 - 10:53 AM

Brewers claimed RHP Steve Geltz off waivers from the Rays.

Geltz was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay earlier this month. He posted an underwhelming 5.74 ERA in 26 2/3 innings of relief this past season for the Rays, but his peripheral numbers have always been decent and the 29-year-old right-hander figures to be in the running for an Opening Day bullpen job next spring with the Brewers.

Rays designated RHP Steve Geltz for assignment.

The Rays needed to clear a few spots on the 40-man roster after Friday's trade with the Mariners and Geltz looks to be the odd-man out. The 29-year-old hurler registered a 5.74 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 23/9 K/BB ratio across 26 2/3 innings out of the Rays' bullpen in 2016.

Rays optioned RHP Steve Geltz to Triple-A Durham.

Geltz was just with the club for one day as an extra bullpen arm and will head back down to make room on the roster for Alex Cobb who is set to be activated on Monday. Expect to see Geltz back with the big league club when rosters expand later this week.

Rays optioned RHP Steve Geltz to Triple-A Durham.

The move clears a spot for newly-acquired outfielder Oswaldo Arcia. Geltz gave up his 10th homer of the season on Friday against the Indians and owns an ugly 6.75 ERA over 20 innings on the year.

Rays optioned RHP Steve Geltz to Triple-A Durham.

Geltz allowed a pair of runs on two hits in his inning of work against the Tigers on Sunday, bringing him to a 6.06 ERA in 16 1/3 innings with the Rays this season. He'll continue to provide bullpen depth at Triple-A.

Steve Geltz is dealing with a swollen right eye following an allergic reaction.

It's been a rough week for Geltz, who has allowed three go-ahead homers in his last four appearances. He's experiencing some improvement, so consider him day-to-day.

Steve Geltz, making a spot start, threw two perfect innings to help the Rays blank the Nationals by a 5-0 score on Wednesday.

Geltz has contributed almost entirely as a reliever this season, so that's why he didn't stay in longer. He threw 19 pitches, retiring all six batters he faced with one strikeout. Matt Andriese took over for Geltz in the third and threw four scoreless innings. Geltz had started and went two innings in one start back in April.

Steve Geltz will start on Wednesday against the Nationals.

Previously scheduled starter Matt Andriese will still pitch, but he'll come out of the bullpen. The Rays did something similar in a road interleague series with Geltz back on April 10, as he went two innings then before being followed by Erasmo Ramirez.

Steve Geltz notched his first major league save by pitching a scoreless ninth Wednesday against the Red Sox.

This comes 12 days after he made his first big-league start. Geltz probably won't be a threat for more saves with Jake McGee out. His stuff is fine, but his control leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Steve Geltz allowed one run over two innings in a start against the Marlins on Friday.

The Rays tried to get creative playing under National League rules, as Geltz was only slated to go a couple of innings before being pulled as a pinch-hitter. The strategy didn't really pay off, as Erasmo Ramirez entered the game in the third and was knocked around for seven runs on six hits and three walks over two innings of work. This was the first start of Geltz's pro career and he's unlikely to get another one. The Rays' rotation should be back to full strength soon.

Steve Geltz will make his first major league start against the Marlins on Friday.

The Rays had planned to start Erasmo Ramirez originally in this spot, and no reason has yet to be given for the switch. Geltz, a 27-year-old right-hander, has posted a 4/1 K/BB ratio over 2 1/3 innings of relief for the Rays this season. It's hard to imagine him lasting more than five innings in this outing.
