Paco Rodriguez (elbow) will reportedly miss the 2016 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

While the team hasn't officially announced anything, Dave O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote that Rodriguez underwent Tommy John surgery at least two weeks ago. The 24-year-old southpaw arrived in Atlanta as part of the three-team, 13-player Hector Olivera trade.

Paco Rodriguez (elbow) won't join the Braves this season.

Rodriguez began a throwing program in late July, but the out-of-contention Braves would rather him focus on getting ready for 2016. The 24-year-old left-hander underwent surgery in late June to remove loose bodies from his pitching elbow. Atlanta acquired him from Los Angeles in the July 30 three-team, 13-player Hector Olivera trade.

Braves acquired LHP Paco Rodriguez from the Dodgers in the three-team, 13-player Hector Olivera trade.

Rodriguez has been limited to 10 1/3 innings of relief this season due to left elbow issues, but he resumed throwing on Wednesday and could make his Braves debut at some point in September. The 24-year-old has flashed the stuff of a top left-handed specialist.

Paco Rodriguez will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies in his pitching elbow.

Rodriguez has been dealing with a bone spur in his left elbow and thought he would be able to pitch through it, but continued pain has forced him to reevaluate. He will be sidelined for the next 8-10 weeks before hopefully rejoining the Dodgers bullpen.

He was placed on the disabled list in early June with a strained elbow, but it appears as though the injury isn't as serious as initially believed. He should be able to rejoin the Dodgers bullpen before the end of June.
Jun 12 - 8:58 PM

Paco Rodriguez underwent an MRI which showed no difference in his elbow from the time he was signed.

In other words, the Dodgers didn't find anything to be alarmed about. Rodriguez was placed on the disabled list over the weekend with a left elbow strain and will be shut down for a few days before resuming a throwing program. There's no clear timetable for his return.

Paco Rodriguez (back) threw a successful 30-pitch bullpen session at full effort on Wednesday.

Rodriguez will accompany the Dodgers to San Francisco this weekend and face live hitters either Friday or Saturday in a simulated appearance. Paco Rodriguez (back) is on track to pitch a simulated game on Friday or Saturday.

That's assuming he gets through another bullpen session Wednesday with no issues. Rodriguez could be activated from the disabled list if the sim game over the weekend goes well. He's been out since early August with a teres major strain.

Paco Rodriguez (back) threw his third bullpen session Tuesday since landing on the disabled list.

Rodriguez has recovered nicely from a teres major strain in the back of his shoulder but is still likely a couple weeks away from being activated. "He still does feel a little something the next day and things like that," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "So we’re still moving forward with him." The lefty holds a 4.35 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 13 relief appearances this season.
