Stefen Romero (shoulder) has resumed some baseball activities.
Romero suffered a contusion behind his left shoulder when he ran into the outfield wall last week, but it sounds like he has a shot to return before the season ends. "I haven't really swung at all since I tried to do it the next day after it happened, but I don't think I could swing now," Romero said. "Thank goodness it wasn't a fracture or anything with structural damage. That's good." Mon, Sep 28, 2015 09:53:00 PM

Stefen Romero went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI after replacing an injured Franklin Gutierrez on Friday.

It was just the second appearance of the season for Romero, who played in 72 games for the Mariners a year ago. He'll get some starts versus lefties down the stretch, but it doesn't seem likely that he'll have much AL-only fantasy value.

Mariners recalled OF Stefen Romero from Triple-A Tacoma.

Romero appeared in 72 games with the Mariners last season, but he has played exclusively at the Triple-A level this year while batting .292/.333/.494 with 17 homers and 10 steals over 116 games. The 26-year-old likely won't play enough to be fantasy relevant.

Mariners optioned OF Stefen Romero to Triple-A Tacoma; re-assigned RHP Justin Germano, LHP Rafael Perez, OF Franklin Gutierrez and INFs D.J. Peterson and Patrick Kivlehan to minor league camp.

Romero scorched the ball with a .364/.440/.500 batting line this spring, but there's just not a spot for him on the Opening Day roster. Gutierrez figures to begin the year in extended spring training, as he's already having leg issues again.

Mariners recalled OF Stefen Romero from Triple-A Tacoma.

Romero has hit .196/.236/.310 in 180 plate appearances this season for Seattle. He is not fantasy-relevant.

Mariners optioned OF Stefen Romero to Triple-A Tacoma.

The Mariners needed to clear roster space following the acquisition of Austin Jackson and Chris Denorfia. Romero has hit only .196/.236/.310 in the majors this season but will be back next month.

Mariners recalled OF Stefen Romero from Triple-A Tacoma.

Romero hasn't been very successful this season at the major league level, batting just .196 with a .560 OPS in 159 plate appearances. He'll serve as a utility outfielder.

Mariners optioned OF Stefen Romero to Triple-A Tacoma.

The 25-year-old outfielder has really struggled during his time with the Mariners, hitting .196/.236/.324 with three homers, 11 RBI and a troubling 40/4 K/BB ratio in 150 plate appearances.

Batting in the cleanup spot, Stefen Romero singled and tripled in Wednesday's win over the Braves.

He would have scored a run, as well, but James Jones pinch-ran for him in the eighth after his one-out triple. The nice day brought Romero's season line up to .214/.264/.368. Cole Gillespie also had a pair of base knocks for the Mariners Wednesday.

Stefen Romero struck out all four times he was up Friday against the A's.

He struck out on changeups from Tommy Milone in each of his first three at-bats. Romero won a spot on Seattle's roster with a big spring, but it'd make more sense to let him play regularly in Triple-A than to keep him in spot duty in the majors. He's 2-for-13 so far.

Stefen Romero had another big game on Tuesday, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI against the Royals.

The home run was Romero's fourth of the spring and second in the last three games. The 25-year-old is batting .296/.321/.648 with three doubles, two triples, four home runs and 13 RBI through 54 at-bats this spring, but has also posted a 13/1 K/BB ratio. Romero saw time in right field and at first base in Sunday's game, indicating that the Mariners are still considering him as a potential bench player to open the season.

Stefen Romero belted a three-run walkoff homer off Evan Scribner on Sunday, leading the Mariners to a 6-4 victory over the Athletics in Cactus League play.

Romero's dramatic blast came as a pinch-hitter. He's hitting .283/.298/.630 in 46 at-bats this spring, but has posted a troublesome 11/1 K/BB ratio. While he could stick as a bench bat for the M's, he may be better suited playing every day at the Triple-A level.

Stefen Romero blasted his second home run of the Cactus League season, helping to lead the Mariners in a 2-2 draw against the Rockies on Friday.

Romero finished the evening 1-for-4. His first-inning shot off Franklin Morales gave the M's an early 1-0 lead. The 25-year-old could make a push for inclusion on the Opening Day roster if he continues to preform in Arizona.

Mariners purchased the contract of INF/OF Stefen Romero from Triple-A Tacoma.

Romero hit .277/.331/.448 with Triple-A this year after crushing two lower levels in the 2012 season. The Mariners are banking on the 25-year-old regaining some of that form going forward. Adding him to the 40-man roster ensures he won't be taken in the Rule 5 Draft in December.
Wed, Nov 20, 2013 11:38:00 PM

Mariners prospect Stefen Romero is batting .138/.219/.138 with 10 strikeouts through eight games in the Arizona Fall League.

Drafted in the 12th round of the 2010 draft out of Oregon State, Romero quickly raked his way through the Mariners' system, highlighted by a .991 OPS with 64 extra-base hits and 101 RBI in 116 games between High-A High Desert and Double-A Jackson in 2012. Therefore, it was surprising that the 25-year-old outfielder posted only a .779 OPS with 11 home runs this past season in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. If his production doesn't rebound, Romero's best chance of reaching the major leagues in 2014 will be as a reserve outfielder in the event of an injury to one of the team's starters.
