Sean Manaea surrendered three runs in six innings and registered a win over the Angels on Saturday.
He made just one mistake in the ballgame and Chris Young deposited it over the outfield wall for a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Manaea survived that to turn in a quality start and even his record at 6-6 on the season. He has a 3.56 ERA with 68 strikeouts and 19 walks in 93 2/3 innings across 15 starts. Jun 16 - 7:57 PM

Date:

Sean Manaea allowed two earned runs, six hits and no walks with six strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Royals.

Manaea threw 69 of his 90 pitches for strikes, turning in first-pitch strikes to 21 of the 29 batters he faced. His overall record is 5-6, but he has an outstanding 0.99 WHIP, a strong 3.49 ERA and he has limited the opposition to a .209 batting average over 80 1/3 innings in 13 starts. The southpaw has plenty of upside, it is just that run support has been a problem. He'll try to get on track against the Angels next weekend. He allowed just one earned run over 7 2/3 innings in a loss to the Angels back on March 30.
Jun 10 - 8:53 PM

Sean Manaea allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Rangers.

Manaea walked four, but they didn't hurt him; it was the two solo homers responsible for the damage. He's had far less success on the whole since April ended, but he remains of some use in mixed leagues. He should be worth playing with the Royals next on the schedule.
Jun 5 - 11:14 PM

Sean Manaea allowed four earned runs, five hits and a walk with three strikeouts over five innings in a loss against Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

Manaea threw just 64 of his 95 pitches for strikes, as his location was a bit off. He also hit a batter while struggling with a game score of 43. The southpaw was in beast mode in April, posting a 4-1 record with a 1.80 ERA in five starts, including a no-hitter. However, May has been a completely different story as he is 1-4 with a 7.18 ERA across six starts, yielding four or more runs in five of those outings. He'll look to get untracked in his next scheduled start next Tuesday in Texas.
May 31 - 1:23 AM

Sean Manaea lasted just 3 2/3 innings and gave up six runs Friday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

So, Manaea has a no-hitter against the Red Sox and gems against everyone in the AL West, but he gives up six runs to Arizona? He's allowed 21 earned runs in 26 1/3 innings this month after finishing April with a 1.03 ERA. If he's healthy, he'll get this turned around, probably sometime soon. However, given his injury history, health does have to be considered a question mark.
May 26 - 12:57 AM

Sean Manaea wasn't at his best on Saturday, giving up four runs on five hits over five innings in a no-decision against the Blue Jays.

Manaea walked three and punched out two on the afternoon. He kept the Jays' offense at bay through the first four innings, but they broke through for four runs in the fifth inning powered by a two-run blast from Giovanny Urshela. Even with the rough outing, Manaea owns a sparkling 2.71 ERA and 0.86 WHIP through 66 1/3 innings in his first 10 starts. He'll tryto right the ship on Friday when he does battle against the Diamondbacks.
May 19 - 4:28 PM

Sean Manaea surrendered four runs -- three earned -- over six innings Monday in a win over the Red Sox.

It's the first time in his career that Manaea has allowed four runs and won; he had been 0-13 in the 19 starts in which he allowed at least four runs. After going 4-2 with a 1.03 ERA in April, Manaea is 1-2 with a 5.60 ERA in May. He'll get the Blue Jays next.
May 14 - 10:31 PM

Sean Manaea allowed four earned runs, seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Astros on Tuesday.

Manaea threw just 55 of his 82 pitches for strikes and he also hit a batter. Since flipping the calendar from April to May he has struggled, going 0-2 with a 6.17 ERA. His location has actually been a little too good, as he has allowed 13 hits in the two April outings and he hasn't allowed a walk in the 11 2/3 innings. Unfortunately, his hits allowed are up and his strikeouts are down. He'll try to rebound next Monday in Boston to kick off a two-start week. It looks like a tough matchup, but remember, he no-hit the Red Sox on April 21 the last time he faced them.
May 9 - 2:54 AM

Sean Manaea surrendered four runs on six hits over six innings in Thursday's loss to the Mariners.

Manaea struck out five without walking a batter. Robinson Cano was cause for the first two runs on his line, burning him for RBI singles in the first and third innings. Cano, himself, would touch home after Nelson Cruz came through with a two-run home run in that third inning. This was Manaea's first start in seven outings in which he's allowed more than one run. It's been that kind of charmed year for the southpaw, who already has a no-hitter under his belt. He'll look to bounce back from Thursday's rougher-than-usual outing when he carries a 1.63 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 42/7 K/BB ratio (49 2/3 innings) into a home showdown with the Astros next time out.
May 4 - 12:43 AM

Sean Manaea followed up his no-hitter by holding the Astros to an unearned run over seven innings in a victory Friday.

Manaea allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven in another excellent outing. The lone run followed a Marcus Semien error in the fourth. Manaea will carry a 4-2 record and a 1.03 ERA into next week's start against the Mariners. He's already beaten them once this season.
Apr 27 - 11:03 PM

Sean Manaea allowed just two walks with 10 strikeouts for his first-career no-hitter in Saturday's 3-0 victory against the Red Sox.

Well, that's one way to cool off the red hot Red Sox. It was the seventh no-no in Oakland history and the first since Dallas Braden's perfect game back in 2010. Andrew Benintendi drew a walk with two outs in the ninth to make things a bit hairy, but Manaea got Hanley Ramirez to ground out to make history. His 10 strikeouts matched a career high as he threw 75 of his 108 pitches for strikes. He'll try to join Johnny Vander Meer with back-to-back no-hitters when he makes his next scheduled start Friday in Houston opposite Dallas Keuchel.
Apr 22 - 12:13 AM

Sean Manaea twirled another gem Sunday, allowing a run on two hits over seven innings in a 2-1 win over the Mariners.

Manaea hung an off-speed pitch to Taylor Motter that Motter swatted over the boards, but otherwise the M's couldn't do much of anything against the southpaw. Manaea walked a pair and struck out four in the efficient outing. He's been nothing short of stellar through four starts, posting a 1.63 ERA and 0.72 WHIP while throwing 27 2/3 innings, most in the American League through Sunday. A challenge awaits Manaea Saturday with the Red Sox in town, but right now he's a must-start until he falters. He hasn't yet.
Apr 15 - 7:09 PM

Sean Manaea allowed two earned runs, seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over five innings in a loss Tuesday on the road against the Dodgers.

Manaea served up solo homers to Chris Taylor and Corey Seager to get into a quick 2-0 hole, but he recovered after that and gave his team a chance to hang in the game. He has racked up 16 strikeouts over 20 2/3 innings in three starts, posting a 1.74 ERA despite an ugly 1-2 record. His next scheduled start will be Monday against the White Sox to kick off a two-game work week for the southpaw. Plenty of AL-only fantasy owners will be streaming him if available off the waiver wire.
Apr 11 - 1:06 AM

Sean Manaea allowed just one run and three hits over eight strong innings to pick up his first victory of the season Wednesday against the Rangers.

Manaea threw 64 of his 94 pitches for strikes, punching out four batters while walking just one in the quality start. The southpaw is humming along with just one walk and 11 strikeouts over his first 15 2/3 innings with an impressive 1.15 ERA. Health isn't an issue for Manaea so far, and he seems to be pitching with confidence. That's a nice combination, and his fantasy appeal is building exponentially. His next start on Tuesday against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers on the road will be a nice early-season measuring stick game.
Apr 5 - 2:10 AM

Sean Manaea allowed just one earned run with four hits and no walks while striking out seven batters across 7 2/3 innings in a loss Friday against the Angels.

Manaea was tagged for a solo home run by Mike Trout in the first inning and then he settled down and was lights out. Unfortunately for the southpaw the A's were unable to scratch out any offensive support against Tyler Skaggs, who was just a smidge better. He'll look for better support in Wednesday's start against the visiting Rangers. The former Indiana State standout was 2-1 with a 3.71 ERA with 19 strikeouts over 17 innings in three starts against Texas in 2017.
