Sean Manaea twirled another gem Sunday, allowing a run on two hits over seven innings in a 2-1 win over the Mariners.
Manaea hung an off-speed pitch to Taylor Motter that Motter swatted over the boards, but otherwise the M's couldn't do much of anything against the southpaw. Manaea walked a pair and struck out four in the efficient outing. He's been nothing short of stellar through four starts, posting a 1.63 ERA and 0.72 WHIP while throwing 27 2/3 innings, most in the American League through Sunday. A challenge awaits Manaea Saturday with the Red Sox in town, but right now he's a must-start until he falters. He hasn't yet. Apr 15 - 7:09 PM

Date:

Sean Manaea allowed two earned runs, seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over five innings in a loss Tuesday on the road against the Dodgers.

Manaea served up solo homers to Chris Taylor and Corey Seager to get into a quick 2-0 hole, but he recovered after that and gave his team a chance to hang in the game. He has racked up 16 strikeouts over 20 2/3 innings in three starts, posting a 1.74 ERA despite an ugly 1-2 record. His next scheduled start will be Monday against the White Sox to kick off a two-game work week for the southpaw. Plenty of AL-only fantasy owners will be streaming him if available off the waiver wire.
Apr 11 - 1:06 AM

Sean Manaea allowed just one run and three hits over eight strong innings to pick up his first victory of the season Wednesday against the Rangers.

Manaea threw 64 of his 94 pitches for strikes, punching out four batters while walking just one in the quality start. The southpaw is humming along with just one walk and 11 strikeouts over his first 15 2/3 innings with an impressive 1.15 ERA. Health isn't an issue for Manaea so far, and he seems to be pitching with confidence. That's a nice combination, and his fantasy appeal is building exponentially. His next start on Tuesday against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers on the road will be a nice early-season measuring stick game.
Apr 5 - 2:10 AM

Sean Manaea allowed just one earned run with four hits and no walks while striking out seven batters across 7 2/3 innings in a loss Friday against the Angels.

Manaea was tagged for a solo home run by Mike Trout in the first inning and then he settled down and was lights out. Unfortunately for the southpaw the A's were unable to scratch out any offensive support against Tyler Skaggs, who was just a smidge better. He'll look for better support in Wednesday's start against the visiting Rangers. The former Indiana State standout was 2-1 with a 3.71 ERA with 19 strikeouts over 17 innings in three starts against Texas in 2017.
Mar 31 - 1:55 AM

Sean Manaea allowed one run on four hits over 4 2/3 innings in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the Mariners.

Manaea pitched well for the most part, though he did offer up some ugly control, walking three (also striking out three) over his 4 2/3 frames of work. The southpaw has been dealing with a tight back this spring, but has managed to toss at least four innings each of his last two outings. He's tracking toward readiness for Opening Day so long as he's able to avoid setback.
Mar 17 - 7:13 PM

Sean Manaea (back) was able to hurl four innings against the Cubs on Sunday, allowing two runs in the process.

Manaea gave three hits against Chicago -- two of them solo homers -- and he struck out three while walking no one. The best news is that Manaea was able to get through four, as he's been behind schedule due to tightness in his back. Assuming he's fully healthy, he should pitch near the top of the Oakland rotation in 2018, and he could be a fantasy sleeper.
Mar 11 - 5:35 PM

Sean Manaea (back) tossed two scoreless innings against the Rangers in his Cactus League debut Tuesday.

Manaea is behind schedule because of some back tightness, but he looked good Tuesday, walking a couple but giving up just one hit and striking out three. The left-hander has plenty of time to get tuned up for Opening Day.
Mar 6 - 5:15 PM

Sean Manaea (back) is tentatively scheduled to make his Cactus League debut next Tuesday.

Manaea has been slowed in A's camp by some back tightness, but he threw a successful simulated game Wednesday and reported back Thursday with no lingering discomfort. The 26-year-old left-hander makes for an intriguing late-round fantasy starter in 2018 despite posting an underwhelming 4.37 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 158 2/3 innings last season.
Mar 1 - 12:32 PM

Sean Manaea (back) threw a successful simulated game Wednesday.

Manaea delivered 30-35 pitches without experiencing any lingering discomfort in his back. The next step for the 26-year-old left-hander will likely be a Cactus League appearance -- his first of the spring. Manaea should be fine for the start of the regular season.
Feb 28 - 1:29 PM

Sean Manaea (back) is set to throw a simulated game Wednesday in A's camp.

If it goes well, his next appearance will be in a Cactus League game. Manaea was scratched from his scheduled spring debut Tuesday because of minor tightness in the middle of his back. The 26-year-old left-hander should be fine for the beginning of the regular season and carries intriguing upside as a late-round fantasy starter.
Feb 28 - 10:44 AM

Sean Manaea was scratched from his Cactus League debut on Tuesday due to middle back tightness.

Manaea has dealt with some back issues in the past, so the A's are being cautious. Look for him to try again soon.
Feb 27 - 1:49 PM

Sean Manaea ended his 2017 campaign with authority Thursday, holding the Rangers to just an unearned run over 6 2/3 innings in a 4-1 Athletics win.

Manaea surrendered just three hits and walked three while striking out six in the outing, improving to 12-10 with the win. More than anything, it was a good final turn for the 25-year-old's psyche after some August struggles cast a shadow over his season. He finishes with a 4.37 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 29 starts, winning four of his last six decisions. Manaea should build on this season's experience and continue to become one of the game's better pitchers in 2018.

Sean Manaea (back) said after throwing a bullpen session Monday that he's ready to go for Thursday's scheduled start in Texas.

Manaea had to be scratched from his last outing with a back injury, but it appears that he'll be fine. The left-hander has scuffled since the beginning of August with a 6.69 ERA over nine starts.

Sean Manaea has been scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Rangers due to a back issue.

Manaea called the issue "minor" and said he expects to make one more start before the end of the regular season. Raul Alcantara will take the mound in his place Saturday versus Texas.
Sat, Sep 23, 2017 05:27:00 PM

Sean Manaea got the win on Sunday while allowing one earned run in a victory over Philadelphia on Sunday.

Manaea gave up three runs overall, but only one was earned. He walked two, and struck out four. A so-so start for a pitcher that has been very much so-so in 2017. There's still big upside in his left arm, but the command is going to have to make significant improvement for him to reach his ceiling. His next start will be Saturday when Texas travels to Oakland.
