Sean Manaea (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list Wednesday against the Giants.
Manaea suffered a left pronator strain earlier this month but only missed a few starts. The left-hander allowed two hits, two runs and a pair of walks in 3 2/3 innings Friday in a rehab outing for High-A Stockton. He's had a tough time adjusting to the big leagues with just two wins and a 6.02 ERA through his first nine starts. Jun 25 - 5:43 PM

Date:

Sean Manaea (arm) is scheduled to make a rehab start Friday with High-A Stockton.

Manaea has been on the disabled list since June 14 because of a left pronator (elbow) strain. The lefty had a 6.02 ERA in nine starts before the injury and could be asked to make more than one start on the farm.
Jun 21 - 7:01 PM

Sean Manaea (arm) played catch from a distance of 90 feet without any issue on Friday.

The Athletics are anticipating that he'll need only a minimum stint on the disabled list and he could be ready to rejoin the rotation before the end of June. Eric Surkamp is holding down his spot in the rotation for the time being.
Jun 17 - 8:00 PM

Sean Manaea's MRI showed muscular damage but nothing was wrong with any of his ligaments.

The A's were expecting this outcome. The team is optimistic Manaea will only need the minimum 15 days to recover. For now, left-hander Eric Surkamp will occupy his spot in the starting rotation.
Jun 14 - 8:06 PM

Athletics placed LHP Sean Manaea on the 15-day disabled list with a left pronator strain.

Manaea hasn't gotten his MRI results back but the A's already knew he wasn't going to be back in 15 days. The left-hander admitted Monday that his forearm felt "a little more than sore." Left-hander Eric Surkamp will take his place on the active roster. Manaea has pitched to a 6.02 ERA in nine starts this year.
Jun 14 - 6:47 PM

Sean Manaea (forearm) will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Manaea exited Monday's start against the Rangers with a strain to the pronator muscle in his left forearm. The rookie southpaw said that his forearm has bothered him on a couple of occasions this season, but that he was able to pitch through them. He wasn't able to on Monday. "I kind of felt it in the fourth inning, warming up," said Manaea. "It kind of loosened up during the inning and then the fifth inning came around and the same thing happened. It was just kind of tight. It just never got loose." More should be known by the middle of the week.

Sean Manaea was pulled from Monday's start against the Rangers due to a pronator strain in the left forearm.

Manaea surrendered a pair of runs over 4 1/3 innings, but with one out in the fifth inning he looked to gesture to his forearm. And, indeed, the A's are calling it a forearm injury. Further details as to the exact nature of the injury and any potential for a disabled list stint should become more clear on Tuesday.
Jun 14 - 12:42 AM

Sean Manaea left Monday's start against the Rangers in the fifth inning with an apparent injury.

The exact nature of the injury hasn't been confirmed, but he appeared to be gesturing toward his forearm. Manaea gave up two runs over 4 1/3 innings and struck out five before exiting. The Athletics should pass along an update soon.
Jun 13 - 11:56 PM

Sean Manaea was victimized by a pair of home runs on Tuesday, giving up five runs on six hits over seven innings in a loss to the Brewers.

Manaea punched out six and walked two on the evening. He pitched much better than his final line would indicate, but made two costly mistakes to Chris Carter, one for a two-run homer in the second, and the dagger a three-run blast in the sixth. While he has shown flashes of brilliance, the rookie left-hander will carry a disappointing 6.20 ERA and 1.47 WHIP into Monday's start against the Rangers.
Jun 7 - 10:48 PM

Sean Manaea was sharp in Wednesday's win over the Twins, yielding just one run on five hits over six innings.

Manaea struck out eight and walked three on the afternoon. The only run to score on his watch came when Eduardo Escobar hit a sixth-inning sacrifice fly. Otherwise, the 24-year-old southpaw had matters under control. Through seven starts (38 innings), he holds a lopsided 6.16 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 29/13 K/BB ratio. A road start against the Brewers shows next on his schedule as he looks to bring those numbers back toward respectability.
Jun 1 - 6:47 PM

Sean Manaea yielded three runs in six-plus innings Friday in a loss to the Tigers.

If only just barely, it was still Manaea's second quality start in six tries since he was called up at the end of April. His rotation spot seems rather secure, even if his performance hasn't justified it yet. He'll face the Twins at home next time out.
May 28 - 1:01 AM

Sean Manaea took a step backward Saturday, giving up five runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Yankees.

Manaea showed progress in earning his first MLB victory against the Rangers his last time out, but the Yankees got to him four times in the fourth inning and added another in the seventh to stick him with his second loss of the year. His earned run average actually went down with the loss, dropping from 7.91 to 7.62, an illustration of how much he struggled upon being promoted. The A's aren't going anywhere fast, so they can afford to let Manaea learn at the big league level if they so desire. That next lesson should come Friday against the Tigers.
May 21 - 6:57 PM

Sean Manaea picked up his first major league victory after allowing one run in 6 2/3 innings versus the Rangers on Monday.

The Rangers stacked their lineup with right-handed hitters to no good effect. If anything, it might have helped Manaea, who has been working on his changeup. The 24-year-old now has a 7.91 ERA after four major league starts. With Henderson Alvarez experiencing a setback, Manaea's spot seems safe for now.
May 17 - 2:53 AM

Sean Manaea had a night to forget Tuesday, getting blasted for eight runs over 2 2/3 frames against the Red Sox.

Manaea allowed 10 hits -- including a pair of home runs -- while throwing 41 pitches over his 2 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old left-hander wasn't great in his first two starts and tonight's showing might be enough proof for the A's that he needs some more seasoning in the minors. If Manaea sticks around, he'll face the Rangers next week.
May 10 - 11:07 PM

Sean Manaea turned in a mixed-bag start to earn a no-decision in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings.

Making his second start in the bigs, Manaea struck out six and walked one. All four runs on his line scored in the fifth inning, with Nelson Cruz's mammoth two-run homer to center serving as the loudest hit. The 24-year-old southpaw has allowed four runs in each of his first two outings, but should continue to see starts with Chris Bassitt (elbow) on the disabled list. A road date with the Red Sox appears next on Manaea's schedule.
