Sean Manaea scattered seven hits and three runs over six innings Wednesday in Oakland's 4-1 loss to the Astros.
Manaea held the Astros scoreless over his first five innings but coughed up three runs in the sixth. Five of the seven hits he allowed came in that inning. Most pitchers would be thrilled allowing just three runs to the best team in baseball, though Manaea probably would have appreciated some run support as the A’s were flummoxed all night by Astros starter Mike Fiers. Wednesday ended the left-hander’s six-game unbeaten streak. He’ll face the Astros again on Tuesday. Jun 22 - 1:19 AM

Sean Manaea allowed five earned runs, eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision Friday against the Yankees.

Manaea had his streak of winning five straight starts broken up by the no-decision. The five runs allowed tied the total amount of runs he yielded over his past four outings. He'll look to right the ship next time out Wednesday, but it's an unfavorable matchup against Dallas Keuchel and the Astros.
Jun 17 - 4:27 AM

Sean Manaea led the A’s to victory in Game 2 of their doubleheader Saturday against the Rays by allowing just six hits and two runs over seven strong innings.

He walked two and struck out five while throwing 67 of his 103 pitches for strikes. Manaea couldn’t solve Evan Longoria, allowing an RBI single and a solo home run to the Rays’ third baseman, but kept the rest of the lineup at bay. He’s been sensational over his last five starts, winning all five while posting an incredible 1.97 ERA. Manaea will look to make it six straight against the Yankees next Friday.
Jun 10 - 10:58 PM

Sean Manaea pitched six innings and allowed two runs Monday in a win over the Blue Jays.

Manaea struck out seven and walked three. He's allowed just four homers in 54 1/3 innings this season after giving up 20 in 144 2/3 innings as a rookie. Everything is looking up for him from a performance standpoint, but he does remain a big health risk going forward.
Jun 6 - 1:36 AM

Sean Manaea beat the Indians by allowing just one run in seven innings of work on Wednesday.

He punched out nine batters while limiting the Tribe to three base hits and one free pass. The only run he allowed came on a Francisco Lindor solo homer in the fourth inning. This was Manaea's second dominant outing in a row following on the heels of seven shutout innings against the Yankees on Friday. He is now 4-3 with a 3.91 ERA in nine starts. He has amassed 54 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings. He will try to continue his hot streak versus the Blue Jays on Monday.
May 31 - 9:26 PM

Sean Manaea spun seven scoreless frames to defeat the Yankees on Friday.

It was his longest outing of the season. Manaea was outstanding against a tough lineup, allowing just four hits (three of them singles) while walking one and striking out eight. It was even more impressive when you consider that he was moved up on short notice with Kendall Graveman (shoulder) landing on the disabled list. The southpaw has loads of talent and is worth trusting again in mixed leagues.
May 26 - 11:00 PM

Sean Manaea will be moved up from Saturday to Friday to start versus the Yankees.

It looks like Kendall Graveman is headed to the disabled list with an undisclosed injury, as Manaea is moving up a day and Jharel Cotton is being recalled to start Saturday. Manaea has allowed six runs over 10 innings in his two starts since returning from a DL stint of his own.
May 26 - 1:35 PM

Sean Manaea allowed three runs -- two earned -- in five innings in an 8-3 victory over the Red Sox on Saturday.

He gave up a pair of runs in the second inning but buckled down to give up only one more as he held on just long enough to get credit for the win in the lopsided game. He surrended five hits, one of which was a Hanley Ramirez solo shot. He struck out three and did not walk a batter in the ballgame. This was his second start since recovering from a shoulder strain that cost him two weeks on the disabled list. He has a 2-3 record with a 5.24 ERA in seven starts.
May 20 - 8:36 PM

Making his return from the disabled list, Sean Manaea walked five and surrendered four runs in five innings Monday against the Mariners.

It was a far better start than it figured to be after he walked four in the first. He also gave up a two-run homer to Nelson Cruz in the second, but after that, he retired each of the final 10 hitters he faced. Manaea will get the Red Sox next, so mixed leaguers might want to keep him reserved for a while longer.
May 16 - 1:48 AM

Athletics activated LHP Sean Manaea from the 10-day disabled list.

Manaea, out since April 26 with a shoulder strain, will make his return to the A's rotation Monday against the Mariners. The southpaw allowed one run over four innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Nashville last week. Manaea has disappointed with a 5.18 ERA and 27/12 K/BB ratio in 24 1/3 innings over five starts this season, but he's capable of better and should be owned in most fantasy leagues.
May 15 - 1:21 PM

Sean Manaea (shoulder) will rejoin the Athletics' rotation on Monday.

Manaea pitched well over four innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday and has been cleared to return. Prior to landing on the disabled list, he registered a 5.18 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 27/12 K/BB ratio through 24 1/3 innings in his first five starts.
May 12 - 7:39 PM

Sean Manaea (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list Sunday or Monday.

Manaea has been cleared to return to the Athletics' starting rotation after allowing just one earned run over four innings in a rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville. He struck out five and issued only one walk in that outing. Jharel Cotton has already been optioned to the minors to open a spot.
May 11 - 2:20 PM

Sean Manaea (shoulder) allowed just one earned run over four innings in his rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville.

Manaea struck out five and issued only one walk while scattering four hits over his four frames. He threw 72 pitches -- 45 of them for strikes -- and should now be cleared to rejoin the Athletics' rotation this weekend. The left-hander has been out since April 26 with a shoulder strain.
May 9 - 11:34 PM

Sean Manaea (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

He's expected to pitch "in tandem" with Chris Bassitt on Tuesday night. Manaea felt sharp during a 38-pitch bullpen session on Saturday, hitting 90 mph with his fastball. That's an improvement from his last start when his fastball was down in the mid to high 80s. Barring a setback, Manaea should be ready to rejoin the A's rotation after Tuesday's outing.
May 6 - 10:04 PM

Sean Manaea (shoulder) felt good after throwing a 38-pitch bullpen session on Saturday.

Manaea was hitting 90 mph with his fastball, which is good for a side session—pitchers tend to throw 3-4 mph slower in bullpen sessions than they would in a game. Right now the A's are mulling whether Manaea needs a rehab start or if he's ready to rejoin the starting rotation. The left-hander strained his shoulder in a game on April 26.
