Sean Manaea was roughed up for six earned runs, six hits and a walk while recording just one out in a start and loss against Baltimore on Saturday.
Manaea hasn't won in five outings dating back to July 16, and he has a dismal 17.55 ERA across three starts in August. The southpaw has coughed up 13 earned runs, 21 hits and four walks with just two strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. As such, his ERA has risen from 3.82 to 4.59 in the month. He'll try to turn things around in his next scheduled start on Friday, but he'll face a high-octane Astros offense in their own yard. Aug 13 - 2:32 AM

Date:

Sean Manaea yielded six runs (five earned) on six hits over 3 1/3 innings while taking a no-decision in Sunday's win over the Angels.

Things got off to a poor enough start for Manaea, with Yunel Escobar and Mike Trout taking him deep for solo home runs in the first and third innings, respectively. Three more runs would score against him in the fourth inning before he took leave of the game. Manaea will bring a 4.15 ERA and 1.32 WHIP into a home start against the Orioles in his next scheduled outing.
Aug 6 - 7:52 PM

Sean Manaea was tagged for six runs - two earned - and nine hits with a walk and just one strikeout over three innings in a loss against the Giants on Tuesday.

It was Manaea's second-shortest outing of the season, and his two-inning start on April 26 was curtailed due to a tight left shoulder. He had recorded three straight quality starts at home before the subpar outing, and All-Star Yonder Alonso certainly didn't do him any favors with an error on a grounder in the first inning to open the early flood gates. He'll look to bounce back Sunday on the road against the Angels.
Aug 2 - 2:32 AM

Sean Manaea yielded three runs over seven innings in a no-decision Thursday versus the Blue Jays.

The Jays got to the left-hander with the longball, as Josh Donaldson had a solo shot off Manaea in the first inning and Kendrys Morales hit a solo blast off of him in the fifth. He was able to limit the damage for the most part, though, in part because he had just his third zero-walk game of the season. Manaea struck out seven batters on the day and finishes July with four quality starts in five tries. He’ll get the Giants in his first outing of August.
Jul 27 - 5:02 PM

Sean Manaea allowed four runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Saturday.

Manaea actually put up five zeroes to start the game, but even then it seemed as though he was playing with fire. Sure enough, he got burned in the sixth, with the Mets hitting for the cycle in what ended up being a four-run frame. We'll forgive the southpaw for a bad outing, as he'd been very good for basically two months before Saturday's outing. Manaea will carry an 8-5 record, 3.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 103/38 K/BB ratio into Thursday's start against the Blue Jays.
Jul 23 - 12:07 AM

Sean Manaea surrendered two runs on five hits over seven innings in Sunday's win over the Indians.

Lovely work by Manaea in this one. He struck out eight and walked three on the afternoon, with only a two-run single by Michael Brantley in the fourth inning preventing him from seven shutout frames. The 25-year-old southpaw will carry a sturdy 3.68 WHIP and 1.21 WHIP into a road showdown with the Mets when he next takes to the mound.
Jul 16 - 7:17 PM

Sean Manaea allowed three earned runs, eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts across seven innings in a loss Friday in Seattle.

Manaea has posted back-to-back quality starts, but he continues to search for his first victory in the month of July. Overall he is 7-5 with a 3.76 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 93 strikeouts over 93 1/3 innings across 16 starts. He has emerged as a solid back-end fantasy option in many formats.
Jul 8 - 3:51 AM

Sean Manaea allowed three earned runs, eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts across seven innings in a loss Friday in Seattle.

Manaea has posted back-to-back quality starts, but he continues to search for his first victory in the month of July. Overall he is 7-5 with a 3.76 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 93 strikeouts over 93 1/3 innings across 16 starts. He has emerged as a solid back-end fantasy option in many formats.
Jul 8 - 3:51 AM

Sean Manaea allowed just two earned runs, six hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings in Sunday's no-decision against the Braves.

Manaea threw 67 of his 104 pitches for strikes in the quality start while he also hit a batter. The southpaw has lost just once over his past nine outings dating back to May 15. He has done a decent job of keeping the ball in the yard this season, giving up just eight homers over 86 1/3 innings, which is a good reason for his 7-4 record, respectable 3.75 ERA and 1.20 WHIP through 15 outings.
Jul 2 - 10:32 PM

Sean Manaea scattered nine hits while allowing one run in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday in a win over the Astros.

Manaea and Mike Fiers both got 17 outs tonight. Manaea allowed nine hits and three walks and was charged with one run. Fiers allowed four hits and one walk and was charged with four runs. That's just how baseball works sometimes. Manaea is now 7-4 with a 3.87 ERA.
Jun 28 - 12:21 AM

Sean Manaea scattered seven hits and three runs over six innings Wednesday in Oakland's 4-1 loss to the Astros.

Manaea held the Astros scoreless over his first five innings but coughed up three runs in the sixth. Five of the seven hits he allowed came in that inning. Most pitchers would be thrilled allowing just three runs to the best team in baseball, though Manaea probably would have appreciated some run support as the A’s were flummoxed all night by Astros starter Mike Fiers. Wednesday ended the left-hander’s six-game unbeaten streak. He’ll face the Astros again on Tuesday.
Jun 22 - 1:19 AM

Sean Manaea allowed five earned runs, eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision Friday against the Yankees.

Manaea had his streak of winning five straight starts broken up by the no-decision. The five runs allowed tied the total amount of runs he yielded over his past four outings. He'll look to right the ship next time out Wednesday, but it's an unfavorable matchup against Dallas Keuchel and the Astros.
Jun 17 - 4:27 AM

Sean Manaea led the A’s to victory in Game 2 of their doubleheader Saturday against the Rays by allowing just six hits and two runs over seven strong innings.

He walked two and struck out five while throwing 67 of his 103 pitches for strikes. Manaea couldn’t solve Evan Longoria, allowing an RBI single and a solo home run to the Rays’ third baseman, but kept the rest of the lineup at bay. He’s been sensational over his last five starts, winning all five while posting an incredible 1.97 ERA. Manaea will look to make it six straight against the Yankees next Friday.
Jun 10 - 10:58 PM

Sean Manaea pitched six innings and allowed two runs Monday in a win over the Blue Jays.

Manaea struck out seven and walked three. He's allowed just four homers in 54 1/3 innings this season after giving up 20 in 144 2/3 innings as a rookie. Everything is looking up for him from a performance standpoint, but he does remain a big health risk going forward.
Jun 6 - 1:36 AM

Sean Manaea beat the Indians by allowing just one run in seven innings of work on Wednesday.

He punched out nine batters while limiting the Tribe to three base hits and one free pass. The only run he allowed came on a Francisco Lindor solo homer in the fourth inning. This was Manaea's second dominant outing in a row following on the heels of seven shutout innings against the Yankees on Friday. He is now 4-3 with a 3.91 ERA in nine starts. He has amassed 54 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings. He will try to continue his hot streak versus the Blue Jays on Monday.
