Sean Manaea ended his 2017 campaign with authority Thursday, holding the Rangers to just an unearned run over 6 2/3 innings in a 4-1 Athletics win.
Manaea surrendered just three hits and walked three while striking out six in the outing, improving to 12-10 with the win. More than anything, it was a good final turn for the 25-year-old's psyche after some August struggles cast a shadow over his season. He finishes with a 4.37 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 29 starts, winning four of his last six decisions. Manaea should build on this season's experience and continue to become one of the game's better pitchers in 2018. Fri, Sep 29, 2017 02:23:00 AM

Sean Manaea (back) said after throwing a bullpen session Monday that he's ready to go for Thursday's scheduled start in Texas.

Manaea had to be scratched from his last outing with a back injury, but it appears that he'll be fine. The left-hander has scuffled since the beginning of August with a 6.69 ERA over nine starts.

Sean Manaea has been scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Rangers due to a back issue.

Manaea called the issue "minor" and said he expects to make one more start before the end of the regular season. Raul Alcantara will take the mound in his place Saturday versus Texas.

Sean Manaea got the win on Sunday while allowing one earned run in a victory over Philadelphia on Sunday.

Manaea gave up three runs overall, but only one was earned. He walked two, and struck out four. A so-so start for a pitcher that has been very much so-so in 2017. There's still big upside in his left arm, but the command is going to have to make significant improvement for him to reach his ceiling. His next start will be Saturday when Texas travels to Oakland.

Sean Manaea was blasted for seven runs and 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings by the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Maybe it didn't matter a whole lot, but we don't get why the A's would mess around with Mark Canha in center field when their one real hope for an upper-echelon starter is on the mound. Manaea was coming off a run of better outings (he had allowed three runs or fewer in four straight starts), but he still has never looked like he did in April and the A's might want to consider shutting him down for the rest of the season.

Sean Manaea fired off six-plus scoreless innings while striking out six in Wednesday's win over the Angels.

Sharp work from Manaea in this one. He scattered five hits and walked three on the afternoon, finishing up his outing having thrown 116 pitches (75 strikes). The 25-year-old southpaw will carry a 4.33 ERA and 1.37 WHIP into a road showdown with the Red Sox when he next takes to the mound.

Sean Manaea fell to 9-9 after giving up three runs in 6 2/3 innings Friday against the Mariners.

Manaea has overcome that horrible three-start stretch at the beginning of last month in which he allowed 18 runs -- 13 earned -- in 6 2/3 innings, but even though his last three starts have been decent (eight runs in 17 2/3 innings), he's still not missing a lot of bats. In fact, he hasn't fanned more than three batters in any of his last six starts (he struck out at least six in 12 of his first 19 starts). He's still not quite right, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him shut down at some point.

Sean Manaea allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings to earn a win over the Rangers on Saturday.

He struck out three and walked one while burning 102 pitches in five frames. Due to dwindling velocity readings he was given two extra days of rest before this start and it seems to have done him some good. The win boosts his record into winning territory at 9-8 with a 4.55 ERA after 24 starts.

Sean Manaea is getting two extra days of rest before his next start.

Daniel Gossett will fill what would have been Manaea's spot on Wednesday afternoon in Baltimore. Manaea has allowed 21 runs -- 16 earned -- in 12 2/3 innings (four starts) this month and his recent velocity readings have been a little troubling, though the Athletics say he is fine physically. Hopefully the additional days off can help the 25-year-old right the ship.

Sean Manaea surrendered three runs over six innings Friday in a loss to the Astros.

It's still progress for Manaea, considering that he gave up 18 runs -- 13 earned -- over 6 2/3 innings in his previous three starts combined. He's still winless since July 16, and he's a hard guy to trust in mixed leagues right now.

Sean Manaea was roughed up for six earned runs, six hits and a walk while recording just one out in a start and loss against Baltimore on Saturday.

Manaea hasn't won in five outings dating back to July 16, and he has a dismal 17.55 ERA across three starts in August. The southpaw has coughed up 13 earned runs, 21 hits and four walks with just two strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. As such, his ERA has risen from 3.82 to 4.59 in the month. He'll try to turn things around in his next scheduled start on Friday, but he'll face a high-octane Astros offense in their own yard.

Sean Manaea yielded six runs (five earned) on six hits over 3 1/3 innings while taking a no-decision in Sunday's win over the Angels.

Things got off to a poor enough start for Manaea, with Yunel Escobar and Mike Trout taking him deep for solo home runs in the first and third innings, respectively. Three more runs would score against him in the fourth inning before he took leave of the game. Manaea will bring a 4.15 ERA and 1.32 WHIP into a home start against the Orioles in his next scheduled outing.

Sean Manaea was tagged for six runs - two earned - and nine hits with a walk and just one strikeout over three innings in a loss against the Giants on Tuesday.

It was Manaea's second-shortest outing of the season, and his two-inning start on April 26 was curtailed due to a tight left shoulder. He had recorded three straight quality starts at home before the subpar outing, and All-Star Yonder Alonso certainly didn't do him any favors with an error on a grounder in the first inning to open the early flood gates. He'll look to bounce back Sunday on the road against the Angels.

Sean Manaea yielded three runs over seven innings in a no-decision Thursday versus the Blue Jays.

The Jays got to the left-hander with the longball, as Josh Donaldson had a solo shot off Manaea in the first inning and Kendrys Morales hit a solo blast off of him in the fifth. He was able to limit the damage for the most part, though, in part because he had just his third zero-walk game of the season. Manaea struck out seven batters on the day and finishes July with four quality starts in five tries. He’ll get the Giants in his first outing of August.

Sean Manaea allowed four runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Saturday.

Manaea actually put up five zeroes to start the game, but even then it seemed as though he was playing with fire. Sure enough, he got burned in the sixth, with the Mets hitting for the cycle in what ended up being a four-run frame. We'll forgive the southpaw for a bad outing, as he'd been very good for basically two months before Saturday's outing. Manaea will carry an 8-5 record, 3.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 103/38 K/BB ratio into Thursday's start against the Blue Jays.
