Padres sent INF Jeudy Valdez outright to Triple-A Tucson.

Valdez was designated for assignment last week to make room for the newly-claimed Fautino De Los Santos. He's cleared waivers, though, and will be in big league camp as a non-roster invitee. Valdez was cleared to make room for the newly-claimed Fautino De Los Santos on the 40-man roster. The 23-year-old infielder batted .225/.273/.364 with 12 homers and a .637 OPS last season with Double-A San Antonio. There's a chance he could pass through waivers unclaimed.

Alonso suffered a fractured hand last Friday and Padres general manager Josh Byrnes believes he could miss a month. While it's nice to see the optimism and strong desire to return, the Padres will likely play things safe. Before the injury, the 26-year-old was off to a terrific start, hitting .284/.335/.416 with six homers and 29 RBI through his first 54 games. Kyle Blanks and Jesus Guzman are likely to see the majority of the starts at first base until Alonso returns. Jun 7

CF	1	Cameron Maybin D.L. Padres placed OF Cameron Maybin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 10, with a left knee strain. Maybin has a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee and is expected to miss 6-10 weeks. The Padres have called up Jaff Decker to replace him on the active roster while Chris Denorfia and Will Venable should pick up the slack in center field. Jun 12
