Cubs designated RHP Yoervis Medina for assignment.

Medina has struggled this season between the Mariners and Cubs, posting a 4.71 ERA and 16/11 K/BB ratio over 21 innings. However, he held a sub-3.00 ERA each of the last two seasons in Seattle and throws in the mid-90s, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he draws interest on waivers.

Cubs optioned RHP Yoervis Medina to Triple-A Iowa.

He was with the club for a couple of days to provide emergency bullpen depth, but with Dan Haren joining the club on Saturday he was no longer needed. The right-hander will continue to provide bullpen depth at Triple-A and should get another shot with the big league club later in the summer.

Cubs optioned RHP Yoervis Medina to Triple-A Iowa.

Chicago needed to make room for today's starting pitcher, Donn Roach. Medina pitched well in his 15 outings with the Cubs, compiling a 2.12 ERA across 17 innings. Roach is only expected to make one start so Medina shouldn't be in Iowa for very long.

Cubs recalled RHP Yoervis Medina from Triple-A Iowa.

Acquired from the Mariners last month in the Welington Castillo deal, Medina holds a 3.00 ERA but a 9/7 K/BB ratio over 12 major league innings this season. He has a nice arm, but walks have been an issue for the 26-year-old.

Cubs acquired RHP Yoervis Medina from the Mariners for C Welington Castillo.

Medina owns a 2.82 ERA with 9.2 K/9 and 4.9 BB/9 over 141 relief appearances in the majors. The 26-year-old is a nice flier for Chicago's bullpen.

Mariners optioned RHP Yoervis Medina to Triple-A Tacoma.

The 26-year-old right-hander entered the season as one of the primary set-up options in the Mariners bullpen, and mostly held his own with a 3.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 9/7 K/BB ratio over 12 innings of work. Medina will work on his control against a lesser level of competition. The team will hold off on announcing a corresponding roster move until Monday.

The Mariners have denied Yoervis Medina permission to pitch in the Venezuelan Winter League.

It's a workload concern. Medina made 63 relief appearances this past season as a rookie at the major league level, posting a superb 2.91 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 68 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander is expected to serve as a setup man in 2014.

Yoervis Medina picked up the win in relief after pitching a scoreless 10th inning for the Mariners on Friday.

Oliver Perez struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth. Medina wasn't quite so dominant in the 10th, as he allowed a hit and struck out no one, but he recorded his third win. Perez and Medina are clearly Eric Wedge's preferred options out of the pen right now. They'll probably share save chances for the next couple of weeks.

Yoervis Medina pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th in a 3-2 game to earn the save as the Mariners edged the Angels on Tuesday.

Medina might have been in line for the save in the ninth anyway, given that Oliver Perez was used to pitch a scoreless seventh with the Mariners up 2-1. Tom Wilhelmsen let that lead get away in the eighth, but the Mariners reclaimed it in the 10th after Erick Aybar couldn't quite get a handle on Kendrys Morales' sharp liner over his head. Medina went on to retire Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo and Howie Kendrick in order for the save. He's now a candidate for more saves, though he has the same sort of control troubles as Wilhelmsen. Even after tonight, he's walked 11 in his last 13 1/3 innings of work.
