Dixon Machado played the role of hero in Friday's 5-4 victory over the Royals, coming through with an RBI single with two outs in the 12th inning.
Machado, who had entered the game as a defensive replacement, lined a hanging Greg Holland breaking ball deep down the left field line, easily scoring Rajai Davis from third base. The rookie shortstop has been no slouch at the plate thus far, slashing .267/.313/.333 with three RBI in his limited action. Sep 18 - 11:59 PM

Dixon Machado was removed from the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Indians with tightness in his left hamstring.

The rookie shortstop was having the best game of his young career before departing in the fifth inning, going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. His run-scoring double in the fourth inning produced the first RBI of his career. He's considered day-to-day and should be available off the bench early in the week.

Tigers recalled INF Dixon Machado from Triple-A Toledo.

Machado has just one hit in eight plate appearances this season with the big club. He'll provide some depth with Jose Iglesias (finger) banged up.

Tigers optioned INF Dixon Machado to Triple-A Toledo.

Machado has just one hit in eight plate appearances this season with the big club. The 23-year-old infielder will probably be up and down for the rest of the summer.

Tigers recalled INF Dixon Machado from Triple-A Toledo.

The slick-fielding infielder appeared in three games earlier in the season with the big league club, going 1-for-7 (.143) with a walk and a strikeout. He'll function as bench depth while Marc Krauss is away on paternity leave.

Tigers optioned INF Dixon Machado to Triple-A Toledo.

Machado was only with the club for a few days as infield depth, and he'll return to Toledo to make room on the roster for Thursday's starter Buck Farmer. He should get another opportunity with the big league club before the end of the season, but remains irrelevant in most fantasy leagues.

Tigers recalled INF Dixon Machado from Triple-A Toledo.

Machado is batting .274/.339/.331 with one homer and five steals at Toledo this season. He'll give the Tigers some infield depth with Jose Iglesias (knee) banged up.
May 24 - 11:19 AM

Tigers prospect Dixon Machado raised his average to .408 with two more hits Wednesday for Triple-A Toledo.

Machado has been a powerhouse this season, collecting two or more hits in five of his last seven games. Jose Iglesias is blocking his path to the majors, which is just as well. The 23-year-old has only appeared in 12 games above Double-A and could use more experience.
Apr 22 - 4:26 PM

Tigers optioned INF Dixon Machado to Triple-A Toledo.

The infielder hit .318/.333/.364 across 24 plate appearances this spring. Machado could get a look as a backup infielder at some point.
Mar 20 - 9:15 AM

Dixon Machado went 0-for-3 and committed two errors at shortstop Saturday against the Yankees.

Like the shortstop ahead of him in Detroit, Machado is mostly known for his glove. Today, though, he booted an easy grounder and threw wildly on a double-play relay (that wouldn't normally be an error, but the throw allowed a run to score as it got past the first baseman). The Tigers could well go to Machado at shortstop if Jose Iglesias can't hold up physically this year, but he'll start off in the minors.
Mar 14 - 4:14 PM

Tigers purchased the contract of SS Dixon Machado from Double-A Erie.

The move protects the 22-year-old infielder from December's Rule 5 Draft. Machado batted .286/.375/.404 with six home runs and 10 stolen bases in 131 games this past season between High-A and Double-A.

Tigers sent INF Dixon Machado outright to Triple-A Toledo.

Machado had been designated for assignment, but he's cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. The 21-year-old has batted .222/.301/.271 over his first five pro seasons.

Tigers designated INF Dixon Machado for assignment.

Joe Nathan will take Machado's spot on the 40-man roster. The 21-year-old provides solid defense at the shortstop position, but he owns a meager .222/.301/.271 batting line over his first five pro seasons.

Tigers purchased the contract of INF Dixon Machado from High-A Lakeland.

Machado, who turns 21 in February, batted just .195/.283/.252 with two homers and a .534 OPS in 119 games this season at the High-A level. However, with his excellent defense, plate discipline and speed, it's possible someone would have snagged him in the Rule 5 Draft if he was exposed.
