White Sox released RHP Charlie Shirek.
Shirek, 27, posted a 3.65 ERA and 117/29 K/BB ratio over 170-plus innings for Chicago's Triple-A-affiliate in 2012. The White Sox valued him highly enough to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft this offseason, but he'll be given his release in order to pursue career opportunities in Asia.

Shirek, 27, compiled a 3.65 ERA and 117/29 K/BB ratio over 170 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season while showing an uptick in velocity. He might not turn out to be anything more than starting pitching depth, but the White Sox didn't want to risk losing him in the Rule 5 Draft.

Beckham went 2-for-4 on Saturday in his rehab debut and is looking ready to rejoin the White Sox. But since he's been out so long -- over five weeks -- the second baseman will likely remain on the farm until Friday.

Sanchez was placed on the disabled list back on April 14 with a lower back strain and is finally feeling significant improvement. He figures to need quite a few rehab games before being activated.

John Danks (shoulder) went 4 2/3 innings Saturday in his third minor league rehab start.
If everything checks out with the left-hander early this week, he should be cleared to join the White Sox starting rotation on Friday night against the Marlins. Danks has been on the shelf all year and makes for a decent waiver stash right now in AL-only fantasy leagues. Since he's coming off shoulder surgery and still rebuilding his arm strength, it might not be wise to trust him right out of the gate in standard mixed formats. Even against Miami.

Gavin Floyd underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor muscle in his right elbow.
The surgeon told the White Sox that the operation "could not have gone better." However, since he needed two major areas operated on, the recovery is expected to be 14-19 months rather than the standard 12 months for Tommy John surgery. With that timetable, Floyd probably shouldn't be counted on for a whole lot in 2014. He'll be a free agent over the winter.

White Sox transferred LHP Leyson Septimo from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Septimo has been out all season with a left shoulder strain. He's begun a rehab assignment but now will not be eligible to return until May 22.
