Kevin Siegrist has been suspended for not reporting to Triple-A Indianapolis.
It was initially reported that Siegrist elected free agency after failing to making the Pirates' Opening Day roster, but a clause in his contract states that he must receive an MLB offer from another organization in order to refuse a minor league assignment. He didn't get said offer but failed to report, so he's suspended. It's sounds as if there was a mix-up here and Siegrist will eventually report. The lefty has a June 1 opt-out clause in his deal if he's not in the majors by that point. Apr 6 - 10:36 AM

LHP Kevin Siegrist has elected free agency.

Siegrist wasn't able to crack the Pirates' Opening Day bullpen and refused his minor league assignment. The hard-throwing 28-year-old will try to catch on elsewhere as a left-handed specialist.

Pirates reassigned LHP Kevin Siegrist to minor league camp.

Siegrist previously told Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic that he'll likely look at other offers before considering pitching in Triple-A. The southpaw posted a 7.94 ERA over six appearances this spring.

Pirates signed LHP Kevin Siegrist to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Once considered one of the top left-handed setup men in the league, the 28-year-old hurler struggled to a 4.81 ERA in 39 1/3 innings during the 2017 campaign. He makes for a terrific low-risk signing for the Pirates as he has the potential to provide a major boost in the bullpen.

The Mets are among the teams that have recently scouted free agent reliever Kevin Siegrist, according to the Bergen Record.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick recently reported about 20 scouts watched Siegrist throw in Florida on Thursday, so it's likely the Mets were represented at that session. A once-dominant reliever, the 28-year-old owned a 4.81 ERA in 39 1/3 innings last year. If he showed anything at the showcase, a team could do worse than taking a shot on the southpaw on a minor league deal.

Free agent Kevin Siegrist threw for about 20 scouts in Florida on Thursday.

Considered one of the game's best lefty setup men a couple of years ago, Siegrist was given up on by both the Cardinals the Phillies in the latter stages of a 2017 season in which he posted a 4.81 ERA in 39 1/3 innings. He's still just 28, and he has a 3.04 ERA in 276 career relief appearances. Also, any team that signs him would have his arbitration rights for 2019. He'd seem to be well worth taking a chance on.

Kevin Siegrist has elected to become a free agent.

Siegrest came over from the Cardinals on waivers at the beginning of September. The southpaw was one of the best lefty relievers in baseball from 2013-2016, but struggled with St. Louis and the Phillies to a 4.98 ERA in 2017. Because of his previous success he should draw some interest, but is likely looking at a deal that will be incentive-laden.

Phillies claimed LHP Kevin Siegrist off of waivers from the Cardinals.

The 28-year-old left-hander has struggled to a 4.98 ERA and 1.60 WHIP across 34 1/3 innings this season, but was a standout in the Cardinals' bullpen the previous four seasons. It's a nice low-risk move for the Phillies as he's capable of being a nice bullpen piece.

Cardinals activated LHP Kevin Siegrist from the 10-day disabled list; designated him for assignment.

Siegrist had a sensational rookie season back in 2013 and he was good in both 2015 and 2016, but the 28-year-old left-hander stumbled to a 4.98 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 34 1/3 innings this season with St. Louis and he'd been sidelined for the last four weeks with a forearm injury. He'll get another shot with a new organization.

Kevin Siegrist (forearm) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with High-A Palm Beach.

Siegrist will probably need two or three rehab outings in the minors before getting clearance to return to the Cardinals' bullpen. The left-handed setup man has been on the disabled list since August 6, retroactive to August 4, with forearm tendinitis.

Cardinals placed LHP Kevin Siegrist on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 4, with left forearm tendinitis.

It's his second trip to the DL this year, as he also missed time with a neck issue. Siegrist has struggled this season with a 4.98 ERA over 39 relief appearances.

Cardinals activated LHP Kevin Siegrist from the 10-day disabled list.

Siegrist allowed a couple runs in his two rehab appearances, but his neck no longer appears to be an issue. The left-hander has struggled this season, posting a 4.28 ERA and 25/15 K/BB ratio over 27 1/3 relief innings.

Kevin Siegrist (neck) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on Friday.

It's unclear how many rehab appearances he'll need, but Siegrist figures to be activated at the start of the second half at the latest. The lefty holds a 4.28 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 25/15 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings.

Kevin Siegrist (neck) threw an aggressive bullpen session Wednesday without issue.

Siegrist declared himself game-ready after the workout and it sounds like he will be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend. The left-handed setup man has been on the disabled list since June 25 because of a cervical spine strain. If he can avoid setbacks, he should be ready to return to the Cardinals' bullpen right after the All-Star break.
Thu, Jul 6, 2017 09:58:00 AM

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Friday that he expects to have Kevin Siegrist (neck) back next week.

Siegrist has been sidelined for the past week with a cervical spine strain. It's unclear whether he'll require any rehab appearances before being activated.
