Kevin Siegrist was credited with the first save of his career after tossing two scoreless innings Friday against the Reds.
The Cardinals won by five runs, but they had a three-run lead when Siegrist entered the game in the eighth inning, so he was eligible for the save. The southpaw struck out three in his two innings of work while allowing one hit, one walk, and hitting a batter. Saves are going to be few and far between for him, but he's capable of being a valuable piece in this bullpen if he can avoid the injuries he dealt with last year. Apr 18 - 12:25 AM

Kevin Siegrist (arm) threw an impressive round of live batting practice Wednesday in Cardinals camp.

"It feels good to be back and get into a groove here and just get ready for the season," Siegrist told reporters after the workout. He battled neck and forearm issues in 2014, winding up with a brutal 6.82 ERA in 30 1/3 innings. The hard-throwing southpaw registered a ridiculous 0.45 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts across 39 2/3 innings in 2013.

Kevin Siegrist (arm) said Sunday that he has "a lot of confidence moving forward to spring training."

Siegrist was bothered by forearm and neck issues throughout the 2014 season and wound up posting an ugly 6.82 ERA in 30 1/3 innings. The hard-throwing left-hander was among the most effective relievers in baseball in 2013 and will try to get it all back in 2015. "I can tell right away that it’s definitely better and it’s probably 100 percent," Siegrist said Sunday about his health. "Just the way the ball comes out of my hand throwing long toss and stuff like that compared to last year."

Fox Sports' Jim Hayes reports that Kevin Siegrist was "feeling really good" after throwing from 60 feet this week.

Siegrist is in the process of rehabbing from various injuries to his throwing arm. The lefty is still a 25-year-old with talent, but the injury-marred 2014 campaign resulted in poor numbers, as he posted a 6.82 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 37 appearances.

An MRI Monday revealed muscle tears in Kevin Siegrist's left hand and inflammation throughout the forearm.

It's the same issue that he had earlier this season when he missed two months of action. "It explains why I had problems with command," he said. Siegrist will do rehab and strengthening and even plans to throw some during the NLDS in hopes of being available at some point this month if the Cardinals advance.

Kevin Siegrist won't be on the Cardinals' NLDS roster.

Siegrist struggled through forearm and shoulder issues throughout the 2014 campaign and wound up posting a rough 6.82 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 37 appearances. The hard-throwing 25-year-old lefty remains a promising talent, but he needs a full offseason rest.

Cardinals optioned LHP Kevin Siegrist to Triple-A Memphis.

Siegrist hasn't looked the same since returning from the disabled list last month, showing diminished velocity while posting a 12.38 ERA over nine appearances. The lefty allowed a grand slam in Saturday's loss to the Padres. He'll try to sort things out at Triple-A before returning next month.

Cardinals activated LHP Kevin Siegrist from the 15-day disabled list.

Siegrist has been out since late May with a forearm strain and more recently a nerve issue in his shoulder, but he made it through five rehab appearances with no issues and is ready to rejoin the Cards' bullpen. Nick Greenwood has been optioned in a corresponding move.

Kevin Siegrist (forearm, shoulder) is expected to return to the Cardinals' bullpen on Wednesday.

Siegrist was placed on the disabled list at the end of May with a forearm strain and then developed a shoulder issue during his rehab. The 25-year-old left-hander is now finally back to 100 percent health, having made five scoreless appearances at Double-A Springfield.

Kevin Siegrist (forearm, shoulder) walked two but threw two-thirds of a scoreless inning in his first rehab appearance with Double-A Springfield.

It's not clear how many appearances Siegrist will need before being activated, but he was seem to have a good shot to return immediately after the All-Star break. With Sam Freeman almost surely set to stick around, the Cardinals figure to go with three lefties in the bullpen.

Kevin Siegrist (forearm, shoulder) threw a bullpen session Wednesday and said he's ready for a rehab assignment.

"I feel good," Siegrist said. "I'm ready. This has been no fun." The session was Siegrist's third pain-free session. He's been on the disabled list since May 24, so he still may not be ready for activation immediately after the All-Star break, but assuming things go well he shouldn't be out for too much longer.

Kevin Siegrist (forearm, shoulder) threw another bullpen session Monday.

It was his second bullpen session since landing on the DL in May. He's scheduled to throw another one Wednesday, which will likely clear the way for him to begin a minor league rehab assignment.
