Date:

Vic Black (neck, shoulder) retired all three batters he faced in an extended spring training game on Tuesday.

It was a good test for Black, who entered the game with the bases loaded. He struck out the first two batters he faced before inducing an inning-ending ground out. The 26-year-old began the season on the DL with shoulder tendinitis before suffering a herniated disk in his neck, but he's beginning to make some progress.
May 19 - 4:16 PM

Vic Black (neck, shoulder) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Black should be ready to make his 2015 debut late next week. The right-hander was rehabbing some shoulder tendinitis when he suffered a herniated disk in his neck.
May 12 - 5:41 PM

Vic Black (neck, shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Monday.

Black hasn't appeared in game action for over a month after being diagnosed with a herniated disk in his neck. He's obviously made progress recently, though, and should resume his rehab assignment soon.
May 11 - 6:15 PM

Vic Black (neck, shoulder) threw from a distance of 90 feet on Thursday.

Black was sidelined for most of the spring with shoulder tendinitis and recently had to shut things down due to a herniated disk in his neck. While he's throwing again, the Mets likely aren't counting on his return begin imminent.
Apr 30 - 5:01 PM

Vic Black (neck, shoulder) has resumed throwing after being shut down last week.

Black was rehabbing from shoulder tendinitis when he sustained a herniated disk in his neck, forcing him to halt throwing. "When he does get back on the mound they’ll slow that progression down so we don’t have a recurrence of what he’s gone through for the last month," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "It seems like every other time he threw that disc flared up on him." It sounds as though Black is still a ways away from returning to the Mets.
Apr 29 - 7:51 PM

Vic Black said Wednesday that the herniated disk he's dealing with in his neck is modest and not as painful as the one he had last season.

That's encouraging, but there's still no timetable for how long Black might be out. The Mets certainly won't be counting on him to contribute soon.
Apr 22 - 3:40 PM

Vic Black has been diagnosed with a small disk herniation on the right side of his neck.

It's affecting the strength and movement of his right triceps muscle, which is obviously then affecting his pitching. Black had been scheduled to join the Mets' bullpen this week, but that obviously won't happen. The right-handed reliever is out indefinitely.
Apr 20 - 3:02 PM

Vic Black is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his shoulder/neck.

Black had been expected to rejoin the Mets bullpen next week, but his velocity has been down in his minor league rehab appearances, and the Mets want to ensure that everything is alright. They should have an update on his status on Monday.
Apr 19 - 5:11 PM

Vic Black (shoulder) could rejoin the Mets' bullpen within the next week.

Black has already made one rehab appearance. He'll be used in a setup role once activated.
Apr 17 - 4:37 PM

Vic Black (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A St. Lucie.

Black was sidelined for most of the spring with shoulder tendinitis, but he's feeling better now. He might only need a few appearances before joining the Mets' bullpen.
Apr 14 - 3:56 PM

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Thursday that Vic Black (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment "within the next two days."

Black has been battling shoulder tendinitis for the better part of a month but is ready for game action again. He shouldn't need too many rehab appearances before rejoining the Mets' bullpen.
Apr 10 - 10:02 AM

Mets placed RHP Vic Black on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27, with right shoulder weakness.

Black missed most of March with shoulder tendinitis. He has been making progress of late, so he should be ready to join the Mets relatively soon.
Apr 5 - 11:23 PM

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday that Vic Black (shoulder) is "unlikely" to be ready for the season.

Black resumed throwing off a mound Saturday, but he's been out most of the month with shoulder tendinitis and he's simply running out of time. Look for him to join the Mets' bullpen at some point in April barring any further issues.
Mar 30 - 5:05 PM

Vic Black (shoulder) is scheduled to throw 20 pitches off of a mound on Saturday.

It will be his first time doing so since being shut down on March 9 with shoulder tendinitis. While he is progressing nicely, his availability for Opening Day remains doubtful.
