Cabrera was designated for assignment on Thursday and cleared waivers. The 25-year-old batted .273/.325/.364 this past season between the Tigers' and Pirates' Double-A clubs.

Cabrera had been claimed off waivers from the Tigers in August. The 25-year-old hasn't played in the majors, but his .287/.355/.387 batting line during his minor league career is pretty good for a catcher.

Pirates claimed C Ramon Cabrera off waivers from the Tigers.

He had been designated for assignment in order to clear space on the 40-man roster for Buck Farmer. Cabrera, 24, doesn't have much power but has a solid batting eye, sporting a career .288/.356/.387 line in the minors. He'll provide catching depth.

Tigers acquired C Ramon Cabrera from the Pirates for LHP Andy Oliver.

Cabrera, a 23-year-old Venezuelan, hit .278/.343/.370 with three home runs and 50 RBI in 113 games this summer between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. He'll serve as organizational depth.

Pirates purchased the contract of C Ramon Cabrera from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Cabrera, 23, owns a .292/.360/.400 batting line over his first five seasons in pro ball. With Cabrera and Tony Sanchez in the organization, the Pirates are in pretty good shape behind the plate.
