Edgar Olmos has reached a contract with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Nippon Professional Baseball.
Olmos posted a promising 2.68 ERA in 87 1/3 innings this past season with the Triple-A affiliate of the Red Sox, but he never got another crack at the MLB level and will now head over to Japan. The former third-round pick of the Marlins last appeared in a major league game in 2015. He turns 28 years old in April. Wed, Dec 13, 2017 12:28:00 AM

Red Sox reassigned LHP Edgar Olmos to minor league camp.

Olmos didn't make the decision easy for the Red Sox, posting a 1.54 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings. Despite the strong performance, there just wasn't a spot for him.

Edgar Olmos suffered a mild right hamstring strain in Monday's Grapefruit League game.

Olmos tweaked a hamstring muscle while pushing off a wet mound to cover first base. The lefty reliever will be reevaluated by the Red Sox medical staff on Tuesday. He's in camp this spring on a non-guaranteed minor league contract but has been impressive thus far.

Red Sox signed LHP Edgar Olmos to a minor league contract.

Olmos was traded from the Cubs to the Orioles last March. He did not pitch at the major league level during the 2016 season. In honing his craft at Triple-A Norfolk, the 26-year-old southpaw posted a 2.88 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 76/28 K/BB ratio in 42 appearances.

Orioles acquired LHP Edgar Olmos from the Cubs for a player to be named later.

He's been bouncing back and forth between Baltimore and Chicago for the last three months. Now it's the Orioles' turn to take him. Olmos struggled to an 8.10 ERA over four spring outings for the Cubs. Assuming the Orioles end the cycle and decide to actually keep him, Olmos will likely begin the year with Triple-A Norfolk.

Cubs sent LHP Edgar Olmos outright to Triple-A Iowa.

He had been designated for assignment but has cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. Olmos held a 3.55 ERA and 34/13 K/BB ratio over 33 innings at the Triple-A level last season.

Cubs claimed LHP Edgar Olmos off waivers from the Orioles.

The Cubs lost Olmos to the Orioles on a waiver claim earlier this month, but now he's back again. The 25-year-old southpaw spent most of the 2015 season at the Triple-A level, where he posted a 3.55 ERA and 34/13 K/BB ratio over 33 innings. Assuming he stays put, he could compete for a bullpen job in the spring.

Orioles claimed LHP Edgar Olmos off waivers from the Cubs.

Olmos was just claimed by the Cubs last week, and the O's are now his third organization since the start of December. The southpaw owned a 3.55 ERA and 34/13 K/BB ratio over 33 inning at Triple-A Tacoma, the Mariners' affiliate, this past season.

Cubs claimed LHP Edgar Olmos off waivers from the Mariners.

Olmos was removed from the Mariners' 40-man roster earlier this week when they needed to tender arbitration-eligible players. He spent most of 2015 at Triple-A, posting a 3.55 ERA and 34/13 K/BB ratio over 33 innings.

Mariners designated LHP Edgar Olmos for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Andy Wilkins on the 40-man roster. Olmos made six appearances (two starts) with the Mariners this past season, but spent most of the year in Triple-A where he posted a 3.55 ERA and 34/13 K/BB ratio over 33 innings.

Mariners optioned LHP Edgar Olmos to Triple-A Tacoma.

Olmos didn't make it out of the second inning in his start Friday night against the A's. The 25-year-old lefty had been used primarily as a reliever in the minors.

Edgar Olmos surrendered five runs -- four earned -- in 1 1/3 innings Friday in his start against the A's.

It's anyone's guess why the Mariners are giving starts to Olmos. He made just two in Triple-A this year after making none in the minors for the Marlins in 2013 and 2014. He's not going to be anything more than a reliever going forward, and it sure seems like the Mariners have better options to start in his place now.

Making his first career start, Edgar Olmos allowed three runs on five hits over five innings in Sunday's no-decision against the White Sox.

In addition to the five hits allowed, Olmos also walked five batters. The 25-year-old southpaw had been working from the bullpen prior to Sunday's start, with 7 2/3 scoreless innings out of the pen at the big league level. He held a 3.55 ERA in 20 Triple-A relief appearances prior to being called up on August 17.

Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon announced Friday that Edgar Olmos will make his first career start on Sunday.

The 25-year-old southpaw has appeared out of the bullpen in all four of his outings with the M's this season, hurling 7 2/3 scoreless innings. He could be worth a look as a streaming option in AL-only leagues, though he's unlikely to work deep into the ballgame.
