T.J. McFarland will start Sunday against the Twins.

It will be McFarland's first start of the season and only the third of his career. The most pitches he's thrown in a game this year is 58 and we wouldn't expect him to last much longer than that on Sunday. Essentially it will be a bullpen game with McFarland likely to be followed by long reliever Braden Shipley, who was just called up from Triple-A Reno. McFarland won't be a recommended streaming option on Sunday.
Aug 19 - 11:20 PM

T.J. McFarland took the loss Friday against the Cardinals after allowing an unearned run over 3 2/3 innings of relief.

McFarland entered the game after Robbie Ray was hit in the head by a comebacker in the second inning. The southpaw did a nice job under the circumstances, allowing three hits while walking none and striking out one. He threw a season-high 58 pitches. There’s no fantasy relevance to be had here, but McFarland at least did a nice job saving the bullpen.
Jul 29 - 1:16 AM

Diamondbacks activated LHP T.J. McFarland from the 10-day disabled list.

McFarland missed barely over the minimum amount of time with a bruised ankle. He'll return to a middle relief role.
May 21 - 4:03 PM

Diamondbacks placed LHP T.J. McFarland on the 10-day disabled list with a left ankle contusion.

McFarland sustained the ankle contusion after taking a hard comebacker to the leg off the bat of James McCann. There is no current timetable for his return, but one should clarify as he becomes further removed from the initial injury.
May 10 - 6:10 PM

T.J. McFarland left his relief appearance Tuesday night against the Tigers after getting drilled on the leg by a James McCann comebacker.

The appearance lasted all of one pitch. McFarland, who's been sharp in middle relief for the Diamondbacks, is likely headed for X-rays on his left leg.
May 9 - 11:39 PM

Diamondbacks purchased the contract of LHP T.J. McFarland from Triple-A Reno.

Shelby Miller (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day DL in the corresponding move. McFarland hasn't allowed a run over 11 innings for Reno this year. He'll work as a left-hander specialist.
Apr 27 - 6:53 PM

Diamondbacks signed LHP T.J. McFarland to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

McFarland was released by the Orioles last week in a cost-cutting move. The left-hander holds a 4.27 ERA over parts of four seasons in the majors and is merely a depth piece for the D'Backs.
Mar 3 - 10:17 AM

Orioles released LHP T.J. McFarland.

The O's are trying to save some pennies here, as they want to re-sign McFarland but just didn't want to pay him the $685,000 that had been owed to him. However, the lefty is now free to negotiate with all teams.
Feb 26 - 1:32 PM

Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have placed T.J. McFarland on release waivers.

He had already been removed from the 40-man roster. The Orioles avoided arbitration with McFarland on a $685,000 contract last month, but they won't have to pay that by putting him through waivers now. It's possible he'll be re-signed if he clears waivers, but the lefty would be able to negotiate with all teams.
Feb 26 - 8:56 AM

Orioles sent LHP T.J. McFarland outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

McFarland cleared outright waivers, but must now either accept his outright assignment or can opt for free agency. The club hopes to keep him in camp to compete for a spot in their Opening Day bullpen.
Feb 25 - 12:03 PM

Orioles designated LHP T.J. McFarland for assignment.

The move creates a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly-acquired Vidal Nuno. According to reports, the O's are hopeful that McFarland will pass through waivers unclaimed and could still fight for a spot in the club's bullpen.
Feb 19 - 6:16 PM

T.J. McFarland dealt with some left shoulder soreness on Saturday.

He reported feeling better on Sunday, so it sounds like the southpaw should resume throwing shortly. McFarland is trying to win a bullpen job with the Orioles this spring.
Feb 19 - 1:42 PM

Orioles and LHP T.J. McFarland avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $685,000 contract.

This was his first chance at arbitration-eligibility. McFarland appeared in 16 games with the Orioles last season and yielded a disappointing 6.93 ERA and 7/10 K/BB ratio in 24 2/3 innings. He's likely to bounce back and forth from the majors to the minors again in 2017.
Jan 12 - 8:58 PM

Orioles optioned LHP T.J. McFarland to Triple-A Norfolk.

It was announced on Sunday that McFarland was designated for assignment, so this presumably means that he passed through optional waivers. The southpaw owns an ugly 6.93 ERA and 7/10 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 innings in the majors this season.
