Jonathan Diaz went 1-for-3 and drove home a pair of runs in Friday’s loss to the Yankees.

Diaz drove home two runs with an RBI single in the second inning to put the Jays ahead 3-2, but that would be the extent of their offense on the night. The 28-year-old infielder has been acting as the Jays regular shortstop since Jose Reyes went down with a hamstring injury, and is hitting .250/.333/.250. Outside of deep AL-only leagues, he isn’t relevant.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons indicated Tuesday that Jonathan Diaz will be the team's primary shortstop while Jose Reyes (hamstring) is out.

Toronto also has Ryan Goins and Maicer Izturis available to play short, but Gibbons views Diaz as the best defensive shortstop of the three. "All three guys will play," he said. "The thinking behind that is we want to throw our best defense out there and Diaz is the best shortstop we've got out there, he's really good out there." Diaz started at shortstop Tuesday and had an RBI single and a stolen base. However, he's a career .230/.358/.297 hitter in the minors and doesn't figure to have much fantasy value even in deeper leagues.
