Tigers signed 1B Sean Halton to a minor league contract.
The 29-year-old hasn't appeared in the big leagues since a 42 game stint with the Brewers in 2013. He spent the 2016 campaign toiling for Lancaster in the Independent Atlantic League where he slashed .290/.354/.550 with 22 homers and 71 RBI in 444 plate appearances. He's nothing more than a depth signing for the Tigers. Fri, Jan 6, 2017 07:53:00 PM

Halton had a decent showing in Cactus League play, hitting .261 (6-for-23) with a 7/6 BB/K ratio. He was a longshot to make the Opening Day roster though regardless of how he performed, and will continue to serve as organizational depth in the minor leagues.

Sean Halton had an RBI single and a two-run homer in Thursday's victory over the Cardinals.

Halton's two-run shot in the fourth gave the Brewers a 4-0 lead, and that wound up being all the team needed. With Juan Francisco really struggling to make contact, Halton could see more playing time at first base down the stretch. He's hitting .254/.319/.381 over 69 plate appearances this season.

Sean Halton hit his first big-league homer Wednesday in the loss to the Reds.

Halton should play pretty regularly with Aramis Ramirez on the disabled list, giving him some short-term value in NL-only leagues. He'll need to capitalize quickly or the Brewers could demote him and give Hunter Morris a look later on.
