Nick Ahmed went 4-for-4 with a solo home run as the Diamondbacks beat the Nationals on Monday.
Ahmed broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with a solo home run off of Doug Fister. It was one of four Arizona homers on the evening. The shortstop hasn't exactly been an offensive dynamo, as Monday's performance still leaves him with a lackluster .232/.289/.348 batting line along with seven home runs and 26 RBI. Aug 3 - 9:47 PM

Nick Ahmed went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a stolen base in Monday's win against the Dodgers.

Ahmed clubbed a two-run home run to left-center off of Joel Peralta in the fifth inning to put the Diamondbacks on the board. The 25-year-old has struggled as the Diamondbacks' regular shortstop, batting .233/.303/.348 with five home runs, 18 RBI, and four stolen bases.
Jun 30 - 1:37 AM

Nick Ahmed is batting leadoff for the Diamondbacks on Thursday afternoon against the Rockies.

It's his first time at the top spot in the Diamondbacks' lineup. Ahmed has hit .234/.310/.339 with four home runs and three stolen bases in 64 games this season.
Jun 25 - 12:21 PM

Nick Ahmed went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Friday's win over the Padres.

His single capped a three-run third inning for Arizona, which ended up being the difference in the ballgame. The 25-year-old Ahmed is batting just .231/.310/.324 with three home runs, 14 RBI, and three stolen base over 61 games this season, but he's a plus-defender at shortstop.
Jun 20 - 2:57 PM

Nick Ahmed went 2-for-3 and drove home the Diamondbacks lone run in Thursday's loss to the Angels.

His RBI double in the fifth inning cut the Angels lead to 2-1, though that would be as close as the D'Backs would get. Ahmed has struggled overall at the plate this season, slashing a mere .225/.307/.320 with 13 RBI.
Jun 18 - 6:23 PM

Nick Ahmed hit a go-ahead solo homer off Jonathan Broxton in the top of the eighth inning as part of a 7-5 win over the Brewers on Friday.

A.J. Pollock added some insurance one inning later with a two-run blast off Corey Knebel. Ahmed has gone deep three times in his last seven games after failing to hit a home run over his first 35 games this season. The 25-year-old is batting just .214/.277/.325 on the year.
May 30 - 12:15 AM

Nick Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a home run in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

After going 35 games without a home run, Ahmed has now homered twice in his past five games. Ahmed also doubled in the game, raising his line to .218/.279/.311. That doesn't sound like much, but the shortstop is hitting .290 in May after a brutal April.
May 26 - 11:22 PM

Nick Ahmed homered and delivered a game-winning single in the 13th as the Diamondbacks edged the Cubs 5-4 on Friday.

Nick Ahmed? The homer was his first of 2015 and second in 174 major league at-bats. He raised his average from .l94 to .212 with his first three-hit game of the year. His defense has been terrific, which is why he won the job in the first place. Anything he offers with the bat is a bonus as far as the Diamondbacks are concerned.
May 23 - 2:14 AM

Nick Ahmed went 0-for-3 before being removed for a pinch-hitter Friday against the Pirates.

Ahmed is quite the defender, but he's batting .128 with one extra-base hit, one RBI and one run scored through 47 at-bats. He can't remain quite this bad, but he's likely to be the NL's worst offensive regular for however long the Diamondbacks stick with him.
Apr 25 - 12:46 AM

Nick Ahmed was hit by a pitch on the left arm and exited Saturday's spring training game.

Ahmed was plunked on the left arm and after being looked at by a trainer, he exited the contest. Ahmed was just named the Diamondbacks' starting shortstop on Friday. After the game, Ahmed said that he was fine. He'll be reevaluated on Sunday.
Apr 4 - 6:28 PM

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Friday that Nick Ahmed will be the club's starter at shortstop.

They'll use Chris Owings at second base, with Aaron Hill being moved to the bench. Ahmed had a nice year at the plate last year at hitter-friendly Triple-A Reno, but he's never done much with the bat overall. He's easily the club's best option defensively, though, and that's earned him the job. The 25-year-old isn't much of a fantasy option.
Apr 3 - 5:56 PM

Nick Ahmed went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's loss to the Royals.

Ahmed also drove in a run with a sixth-inning single. The stolen base was Ahmed's third of the spring, and he's now scored nine runs in Cactus League action. With Chris Owings sidelined early, Ahmed had plenty of time to make a good impression and he has done just that. The shortstop is hitting .319 and has moved into position to be the team's Opening Day starter with just a few games left in spring.
Mar 28 - 8:14 PM's Steve Gilbert writes that "it certainly seems" Nick Ahmed could be the Diamondbacks' starter at shortstop.

MLB Network's Peter Gammons reported earlier Monday that manager Chip Hale "has made it clear" Ahmed would start at short. Hale denied that anything has been decided but also didn't shoot down the possibility. "To name him the starter is hard to do, because we still have camp left," Hale said. "I'm not ready to do that. He's been very impressive. [Gammons] was assuming because of the way we were glowing about [Ahmed]." General manager Dave Stewart also said Monday that Chris Owings is "going to be a starter" if he's healthy. It's been presumed that his position would be shortstop, but it's possible he could play second base and Aaron Hill could move to third, bumping Yasmany Tomas to the outfield (or the minors). Ahmed's apparent rise could be bad news for Jake Lamb's chances at capturing the third base job.

Diamondbacks recalled INF Nick Ahmed from Triple-A Reno.

Reno's season came to an end on Sunday, so Ahmed will rejoin the Diamondbacks. Known for his excellent defense, the 24-year-old hit .228/.254/.316 in 19 games with the big club earlier this year.

Diamondbacks optioned SS Nick Ahmed to Triple-A Reno.

Ahmed is a good defender but isn't ready to hit at the major league level, sporting a .228/.254/.316 batting line across 19 games. He'll be back in September.
