Nick Ahmed hit a two-run home run, his third of the year, in Sunday's win over the Padres.
Ahmed jumped on a hanging breaking ball from Padres rookie Joey Lucchesi and hooked it over the left field fence for the two-run shot. The homer was just his second hit in his last eight games, and despite his three jacks, the 28-year-old is hitting just .197/.290/.410 overall. Apr 22 - 8:26 PM

Nick Ahmed went 0-for-3 in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers, dropping his season average to .238.

That average -- and his .238/.319/.452 line overall -- don't see so bad, but consider that eight of his 10 hits came in the season's first four games. Since then, he's got two hits in 22 at-bats with seven strikeouts in that time. His defense will keep him in the lineup, but anyone who hopped on board after a good first few games can safely abandon this train.

Nick Ahmed was scratched from the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on Saturday due to illness.

He had been slated to start at shortstop. Chris Owings will take his place in the lineup and bat sixth against Michael Wacha and the Cardinals while Ketel Marte shifts over from second base.
Apr 7 - 12:13 PM

Nick Ahmed was unavailable on Tuesday night against the Dodgers due to an illness.

Ketel Marte started at shortstop, Daniel Descalso was at second base, and Deven Marrero played third in the Diamondbacks' 6-1 defeat of Los Angeles. Ahmed should be fine with another day or two of rest. Arizona needs him active with Jake Lamb (shoulder) likely out at least three weeks.
Apr 4 - 8:36 AM

Nick Ahmed went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Saturday's loss to the Rockies.

In a contest which finished 2-1 in the Rockies' favor, Ahmed's RBI fielder's choice in the fourth inning drove in the Diamondbacks' only run of the contest. The 28-year-old shortstop offers plus-defense, but little in the way of enough offense for any real fantasy intrigue.
Apr 1 - 12:07 AM

Nick Ahmed led the charge for the Diamondbacks’ offense by going 3-for-5 with a homer and a career-high five RBI in Friday’s 9-8 victory over the Rockies.

Ahmed launched a three-run homer in the first inning before adding RBI singles in the third and fifth. It was a big night for the 28-year-old, but we wouldn’t count on seeing this sort of thing very often. Known more for his excellent defense, Ahmed entered Friday’s action with a lowly .226/.274/.346 career batting line.
Mar 31 - 2:03 AM

Nick Ahmed went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's Cactus League win over the Rockies.

Ahmed, starting at shortstop and batting sixth, hit a two-run blast in the first inning of Rockies starter Yency Almonte. The homer was his second of the spring. Ahmed is a defense-first shortstop who is locked in as the team's starter at the position, giving him some NL-only appeal but little else.
Mar 25 - 8:25 PM

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic writes that the Diamondbacks "appear to be preparing for (Nick) Ahmed to get the bulk of the time at shortstop."

The D'Backs are saying publicly that both of their middle infield jobs are up for grabs, but Piecoro believes they've pretty much settled on Ahmed at shortstop and Ketel Marte at second base, with Chris Owings and Daniel Descalso operating as utility players. Ahmed is the worst hitter of the bunch with a career .226/.273/.345 batting line, but he's the club's best defensive option at shortstop.
Mar 5 - 8:27 PM

Nick Ahmed hit a solo homer on Sunday in the Cactus League in the Reds' 2-0 victory over the Cubs.

The solo shot came off of Jon Lester, and it was the first of the spring for the soon-to-be 28-year-old. Ahmed is currently battling for a spot as the starter at shortstop for the Diamondbacks, but his value comes with the glove, not with the bat, so there's very little fantasy value even if he earns the job.
Mar 4 - 5:54 PM

Diamondbacks and SS Nick Ahmed avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.275 million contract.

He was eligible for arbitration for the first time. He was hit by a pitch and broke his hand in June, then went on a rehab assignment in late August and was hit by a pitch again and broke his wrist and shut down for the season. He hit .251/.298/.419 with six homers and 21 RBI in 178 plate appearances as a backup infielder.

Diamondbacks activated INF Nick Ahmed from the 60-day disabled list.

Ahmed had his season come to an end in September when he was hit by a pitch and fractured his right wrist. He's arbitration-eligible this winter.

Nick Ahmed will undergo surgery to repair a fractured right wrist.

The initial thought was that Ahmed would not need surgery and could potentially return for the postseason, but his year is officially over now. He'll be arbitration-eligible this winter.

X-rays have revealed that Nick Ahmed suffered a fractured right wrist when he was hit by a pitch during a rehab game with Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

It's the same hand that he broke back in late June, which sent him to the disabled list in the first place. Ahmed had been expected to be activated later this week, but now he's done for the regular season. It's possible he'll heal in time to make it back for the postseason if the Diamondbacks make it.

Nick Ahmed was pulled from a rehab game Sunday at Triple-A Reno after getting hit on the hand in his third plate appearance.

He homered in his second plate appearance. That was supposed to be the final rehab game for Ahmed, but his return to the Diamondbacks' active roster might now be delayed. The 27-year-old infielder has been on the shelf since late June.

Nick Ahmed (hand) went 0-for-2 with a walk in his first rehab game with the Diamondbacks' Arizona League affiliate on Saturday.

Ahmed is working his way back from a fractured right hand, which he suffered back in late June. Ketel Marte has played well at shortstop with both Ahmed and Chris Owings (finger) out, but he could slide over to second base when Ahmed returns.
