Nick Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored in Saturday's home loss against the Mets.
Ahmed accounted for the team's only extra-base hit in the four-run setback. It was just the third multi-hit performance since May 28 for the middle infielder, who has raised his average from .211 to .223 since. He has a long way to go before he endears himself to fantasy owners. Jun 17 - 5:27 AM

Date:

Nick Ahmed went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Rockies on Saturday.

Ahmed had just two extra-base hits in his previous eight games combined, but such is the power of Coors Field. The homer, a solo shot in the second inning, was his ninth of the year, tying a single-season career high. The 28-year-old is hitting .221/.271/.427 in 58 games overall.
Jun 10 - 12:19 AM

Nick Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI as the Diamondbacks routed the Reds 12-5 on Monday.

Ahmed slugged a go-ahead three-run blast off Homer Bailey in the bottom of the second inning, plated a run on a force-out in the bottom of the fourth, and then singled and scored on Ketel Marte's RBI double in the bottom of the sixth. The 28-year-old shortstop is still batting just .211/.267/.416 on the season, though he does have eight home runs, 25 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 49 games.
May 28 - 7:34 PM

Nick Ahmed had a two-run homer and an RBI single against the A's in Friday's win.

Ahmed was hitting second tonight even though he was all of the way down to .204/.261/.388 for the year. With the homer, he drove in his first run since May 14 and scored his first run since May 9.
May 26 - 12:55 AM

Nick Ahmed finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-3 road loss against the Dodgers.

Ahmed has already equaled his homer total from last season with six bombs, and he is just three short of his career best of nine set during the 2015 season, his only campaign in the majors where he played more than 90 games. The former standout at UConn is hitting for surprising power so far, but his batting average is still pretty low at just .228. As such, fantasy owners in mixed formats can still leave him to the waiver wire unless you're absolutely desperate for power.
May 10 - 3:03 AM

Nick Ahmed went 3-for-5 with a homer on Monday to help the Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers.

Ahmed's homer was a solo shot off of Los Angeles start Ross Stripling, and it gives him five on the year. The shortstop is now hitting .262/.340/.524 on the season, and he's driven in 17 runs over his first 24 games in 2018.
May 1 - 1:26 AM

Nick Ahmed went 3-for-4 on Sunday in a loss to the Nationals.

One of the hits was a double, which gives Ahmed a solid six to begin the 2018 season. The hits also raise his average to .241, which is less than desirable. Because of his power at the shortstop position he deserves fantasy consideration, but there's a ton of volatility in his profile.
Apr 29 - 5:26 PM

Nick Ahmed hit a three-run homer against the Phillies on Thursday.

Ahmed hasn't picked up many hits, but of the 13 he's collected, four have left the yard and eight have gone for extra bases. He's not the same kind of defensive shortstop he was a couple of years ago, so he might not last as a regular for the Diamondbacks. Still, as long as he's carrying his weight offensively, he's going to play.
Apr 26 - 4:46 PM

Nick Ahmed hit a two-run home run, his third of the year, in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Ahmed jumped on a hanging breaking ball from Padres rookie Joey Lucchesi and hooked it over the left field fence for the two-run shot. The homer was just his second hit in his last eight games, and despite his three jacks, the 28-year-old is hitting just .197/.290/.410 overall.
Apr 22 - 8:26 PM

Nick Ahmed went 0-for-3 in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers, dropping his season average to .238.

That average -- and his .238/.319/.452 line overall -- don't see so bad, but consider that eight of his 10 hits came in the season's first four games. Since then, he's got two hits in 22 at-bats with seven strikeouts in that time. His defense will keep him in the lineup, but anyone who hopped on board after a good first few games can safely abandon this train.
Apr 15 - 8:13 PM

Nick Ahmed was scratched from the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on Saturday due to illness.

He had been slated to start at shortstop. Chris Owings will take his place in the lineup and bat sixth against Michael Wacha and the Cardinals while Ketel Marte shifts over from second base.
Apr 7 - 12:13 PM

Nick Ahmed was unavailable on Tuesday night against the Dodgers due to an illness.

Ketel Marte started at shortstop, Daniel Descalso was at second base, and Deven Marrero played third in the Diamondbacks' 6-1 defeat of Los Angeles. Ahmed should be fine with another day or two of rest. Arizona needs him active with Jake Lamb (shoulder) likely out at least three weeks.
Apr 4 - 8:36 AM

Nick Ahmed went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Saturday's loss to the Rockies.

In a contest which finished 2-1 in the Rockies' favor, Ahmed's RBI fielder's choice in the fourth inning drove in the Diamondbacks' only run of the contest. The 28-year-old shortstop offers plus-defense, but little in the way of enough offense for any real fantasy intrigue.
Apr 1 - 12:07 AM

Nick Ahmed led the charge for the Diamondbacks’ offense by going 3-for-5 with a homer and a career-high five RBI in Friday’s 9-8 victory over the Rockies.

Ahmed launched a three-run homer in the first inning before adding RBI singles in the third and fifth. It was a big night for the 28-year-old, but we wouldn’t count on seeing this sort of thing very often. Known more for his excellent defense, Ahmed entered Friday’s action with a lowly .226/.274/.346 career batting line.
Mar 31 - 2:03 AM

Nick Ahmed went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's Cactus League win over the Rockies.

Ahmed, starting at shortstop and batting sixth, hit a two-run blast in the first inning of Rockies starter Yency Almonte. The homer was his second of the spring. Ahmed is a defense-first shortstop who is locked in as the team's starter at the position, giving him some NL-only appeal but little else.
