Diamondbacks placed SS Nick Ahmed on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.
Ahmed sustained a small fracture in his right hand after being hit by a pitch in Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. Ketel Marte has been called up and should see the bulk of work at shortstop moving forward, with Chris Owings likely to take on more work in the outfield. Ahmed is expected to miss about two months of action. Jun 28 - 5:06 PM

Nick Ahmed was diagnosed with a small fracture in his right hand after being hit by a pitch Tuesday.

With a DL stint on the way for Ahmed, it looks like Ketel Marte will get a shot in Arizona, which will probably lead to more outfield time for Chris Owings.

Nick Ahmed was pulled from Tuesday's game against the Cardinals after being hit on the right hand by a pitch.

Ahmed was plunked by a Trevor Rosenthal fastball, which isn't ideal. He left the game pretty quickly and went straight to the clubhouse, where he's surely going to undergo X-rays.
Jun 28 - 12:28 AM

Nick Ahmed went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI in a win over the Marlins on Thursday.

Not only did he account for three of the game's 11 hits combined, but he came through with the biggest hit of the evening when he slapped a Brad Ziegler pitch to right field for a two-run single in the eighth. In his last six games, Ahmed has four multi-hit games with six RBI and four runs scored. In what's shaping up to be his best offensive season yet, the 27-year-old is hitting .283/.317/.475 overall.
Jun 1 - 11:27 PM

Nick Ahmed belted two solo home runs in four at-bats in Saturday's loss against the Pirates.

Ahmed isn't known for his power, but he is slashing a very respectable .268/.316/.479. He is known for his defense more than his bat, and as long as Chris Owings and Brandon Drury continue to stay healthy Ahmed will be a reserve. As such, his fantasy appeal is rather minimal despite an uptick in his power numbers lately.
May 14 - 12:10 AM

Nick Ahmed went 2-for-3 with a homer and an intentional walk Wednesday against the Tigers.

Ahmed has a rather respectable .258/.310/.394 line at the moment, and the Diamondbacks are a significantly better defensive team when they have him at shortstop, instead of Chris Owings. Still, there's certainly no sending Owings to the bench at some point, and Brandon Drury is hitting pretty well, too. Until something changes, Ahmed probably won't be in the lineup versus righties with any regularity.
May 11 - 1:53 AM

Nick Ahmed went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Ahmed's RBI single in the eighth inning finally put the Diamondbacks on the board. They trailed 5-1 after that hit, with Ahmed later scoring on a double play to cut that lead to 5-2 (a score which would stand as the final). The 27-year-old shortstop has just three extra-base hits in 63 at-bats and holds no true fantasy value.
May 7 - 7:15 PM

Nick Ahmed went 1-for-4 with an RBI single and a steal in Thursday's loss to the Padres.

Ahmed notched his seventh RBI of the young season courtesy of a second-inning RBI single against Clayton Richard. The 27-year-old shortstop is working to a .269/.296/.423 triple-slash over his first 26 at-bats of the campaign.
Apr 20 - 11:48 PM

Nick Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBI in Saturday's loss against the Dodgers.

It wasn't all great for Ahmed, as he committed a throwing error. Several teams showed interest in Ahmed at the end of spring training but he remains a member of the Diamondbacks. We've seen Ahmed piece together a few big stat lines before, but overall he doesn't hit for a very good average. Unless something happens to Chris Owings, Ahmed is only worth a roster spot in the deepest of NL-only fantasy play.
Apr 16 - 2:25 AM

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that Yankees and Rays are showing interest in Nick Ahmed.

The Padres have also previously shown interest in Ahmed. All three landing spots make sense, as the Yankees' (Didi Gregorius) and Rays' (Matt Duffy) starting shortstop will begin the season on the disabled list and the Padres have an open competition at the position. Ahmed is a career .221/.268/.329 hitter and had season-ending hip surgery last August, but he's a slick fielder and has looked healthy this spring.
Mar 21 - 10:24 PM

According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks are willing to listen to trade offers on shortstop Nick Ahmed.

The D'Backs are dealing with a very crowded middle infield situation, so dealing away Ahmed seems to make sense. He has proven his health this spring following hip surgery and is a very skilled defender both at shortstop and at second base.
Mar 17 - 10:49 AM

Diamondbacks activated SS Nick Ahmed from the 60-day disabled list.

He's got his 40-man roster spot back. Ahmed had hip surgery in August but is hoping to be 100 percent heading into spring training.

Diamondbacks transferred SS Nick Ahmed from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for the return of Rubby De La Rosa. Ahmed is out for the season following hip surgery.

Nick Ahmed will undergo season-ending hip surgery next week.

His surgery will be performed by Dr. Marc Philippon in Vail, Colorado. The 26-year-old will close out his 2016 season with a .218 average over 284 at-bats. With Ahmed done for the year, shortstop duties will be split between Chris Owings and Jean Segura.

A second opinion on Nick Ahmed's injured right hip confirmed the initial diagnosis.

That initial diagnosis was a hip impingement. Ahmed traveled to New York on Tuesday for a visit with a specialist and is expected to receive a cortisone injection to help expedite the recovery process. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 23 and probably won't be ready until sometime in late August.
