Cubs re-signed LHP Jack Leathersich to a minor league contact.
Leathersich was recently non-tendered by the Cubs, but it didn't take long for the two sides to work out a new deal. The 25-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery back in July and will be in rehab mode for most of 2016. Wed, Dec 23, 2015 12:52:00 PM

Cubs non-tendered LHP Jack Leathersich.

Leathersich has seen quite a bit of movement of late for a rehabbing reliever. He had been on the 60-day disabled list with the Mets after undergoing Tommy John surgery in late July. New York activated him on November 6, then subsequently designated him for assignment before he was claimed by the Cubs on November 19. And now he's been non-tendered and will need to find work elsewhere. The 25-year-old southpaw likely won't be ready to pitch again until September of 2016, if he pitches at all next season.

Cubs claimed LHP Jack Leathersich off waivers from the Mets.

Leathersich had a nice-looking 2.31 ERA in 17 relief appearances this season with the Mets, but he needed Tommy John elbow surgery in late July and probably won't be back near full strength until next September. This is a case of the Cubs playing the long game on a 25-year-old potential future bullpen weapon.

Mets activated LHP Jack Leathersich from the 60-day disabled list.

His status on the 40-man roster has been restored. Leathersich won't be back until at least late 2016 after Tommy John surgery.

Mets recalled LHP Jack Leathersich from Triple-A Las Vegas; placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a left elbow injury.

The club needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for David Wright. Leathersich underwent Tommy John last month but will now at least pick up a major league paycheck and accrue service time while he's out.

Jack Leathersich underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on Thursday.

Leathersich injured his elbow while pitching with Triple-A Las Vegas. The 24-year-old showed some promise during his first taste of the majors this year, but he'll now likely be sidelined until well into the second half in 2016.

Mets optioned LHP Jack Leathersich to Triple-A Las Vegas.

The 24-year-old did a decent job out of the Mets bullpen, compiling a 2.31 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 14/7 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings. He should get another opportunity with the big league club before long.

Mets optioned LHP Jack Leathersich to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Leathersich allowed five earned runs on three hits and five walks in 4 2/3 innings this spring. But the 24-year-old southpaw has intriguing minor league numbers and could see some major league action this season given the Mets' need for lefty relief.

Mets purchased the contract of LHP Jack Leathersich from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Leathersich spent most of 2014 in Double-A. He pitched just eight innings at the next level. The move to the 40-man protects him from the Rule-5 Draft.

Mets assistant GM J.P. Ricciardi believes that Jack Leathersich could be a candidate for the bullpen at some point during the 2013 season.

Leathersich, a fifth-round selection from the 2011 draft, posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 113/32 K/BB ratio over 72 innings in Single-A last season. His strikeout ability and success against lefties could make him an attractive option as a left-handed specialist out of the New York 'pen.
