According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians have named Carl Willis as their new pitching coach.

Willis will be taking over for Mickey Callaway, who was officially hired as the Mets' new manager on Monday. Willis served as the Indians' pitching coach from 2003 through 2009, helping to earn Cy Young Award honors for CC Sabathia (2007) and Cliff Lee (2008) during that stretch. He had spent the last two-and-a-half seasons in Boston as the pitching coach for recently-fired Red Sox manager John Farrell.

Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports that former Athletics pitching coach Curt Young could be a candidate to become the Indians' pitching coach.

Mickey Callaway is set to become the Mets' manager, leaving an opening on Terry Francona's staff. The fit with Young makes sense, as he was Tito's pitching coach for a year in Boston. There's also been some speculation that former Red Sox manager John Farrell, who was also a pitching coach under Francona, might be pursued for the Tribe's pitching coach vacancy.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Terry Francona underwent a heart procedure Thursday and will not manage during the All-Star Game.

The surgery was a catheter ablation to address an irregular heartbeat. Indians bench coach Brad Mills will manage the AL All-Stars while Francona recuperates, and Rosenthal says that Tito will rejoin the Indians immediately after the break. Francona has been away from the Indians most of this week and made two trips to the hospital last month.

Indians manager Terry Francona said that he plans on managing as long as his health permits.

"I've had a lot of surgeries, a lot of health problems," Francona said. "It just takes a toll on you. I love [baseball]...[b]ut there is going to come a day when I feel like I'm shortchanging the team or the organization. That's not fair." Francona enters his 17th season as a manager come the start of the 2017 campaign. The 54-year-old is fresh off being named AL Manager of the Year for his work in helping to guide the Indians to a 94-67 record during the 2016 regular season. The Tribe would go on to win the American League pennant and push to the brink of a World Series title before falling to the Cubs in one of the greatest Game 7's in postseason history.

Terry Francona was named the 2016 American League Manager of the Year.

As announced during a special Tuesday night on MLB Network. Francona led the Indians to the 2016 American League Central title and ultimately the American League pennant, though ballots are cast for this award before the beginning of the postseason. Tito edged out Jeff Banister of the Rangers and Buck Showalter of the Orioles in the BBWAA (Baseball Writers Association of America) voting.

The BBWAA announced on Monday that Terry Francona, Jeff Banister and Buck Showalter are finalists for the American League Manager of the Year award.

Francona would surely win if the award hadn't been voted on prior to the postseason, and he still might win it. Banister has a good shot, though, after leading the Rangers to an American League-high 95 victories.

The Indians have exercised their 2019 and 2020 options on manager Terry Francona.

It's not something they needed to do right away with Tito already under contract for two more seasons, but obviously the move is well earned. The Indians hadn't had a winning season in five years before Francona took over but have now reeled off four straight winning campaigns under his watch, which obviously includes an American League pennant-winning 2016 season.

Indians manager Terry Francona is expected back in the dugout for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Francona sat out Tuesday night after experiencing chest pains during his pregame media session. He said it was probably just indigestion and he returned to Nationals Park on Wednesday morning in good spirits. Indians bench coach Brad Mills filled in at skipper for the Tribe, who beat the Nats 3-1.

Indians manager Terry Francona will not be in the dugout Tuesday night against the Nationals.

Francona began experiencing chest pains during his pregame media session and will be monitored overnight by medical professionals. Indians bench coach Brad Mills is going to fill in at manager for the Tribe on Tuesday at Nationals Park. Look for an update on Tito on Wednesday morning. He was apparently feeling better by first pitch.

The Indians have promoted Chris Antonetti to president of baseball operations.

The new front office structure comes on the heels of Mark Shapiro taking an opportunity with the Blue Jays. Mike Chernoff has been promoted to general manager and Derek Falvey will serve as assistant general manager.

Indians signed manager Terry Francona to a two-year contract extension through 2018.

The deal also includes club options for 2019 and 2020. Francona owns a 177-147 (.546) record over his first two seasons in Cleveland (including a Wild Card Game appearance in 2013) and the Indians understandably want to keep him around for the long haul.

The BBWAA has announced Terry Francona as the 2013 American League Manager of the Year.

Francona edged out John Farrell, receiving 16 first-place votes to Farrell's 12. Most had Farrell as the favorite, but Tito is certainly a deserving winner, leading the Indians to a Wild Card spot after entering the season with no playoff expectations. He's won two World Series titles, but this is his first Manager of the Year award.

Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said the club has enough assets to be a player in free agency this winter.

Cleveland's 23rd-ranked payroll of $73,724,300 in 2013 will assuredly rise next season, as the club's revenue rose 20-percent this year. "I'm confident we'll have the resources to building a contending team for next year," Antonetti said. "I think we'll be aggressive." Antonetti certainly has his work cut out for him if he wants the Indians to play more than 162 games again. Starters Ubaldo Jimenez and Scott Kazmir are both free agents, and the long-term status of relievers Chris Perez and Joe Smith and outfielder Drew Stubbs are up in the air. Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera could be traded, a move that could save money and restock the farm system. If Antonetti decides to walk down that road, Mike Aviles would likely enter the starting lineup until stud shortstop prospect Francisco Lindor is ready.

Terry Francona was ejected from Saturday's game against the Tigers in the top of the eighth inning for arguing with home plate umpire Andy Fletcher.

Francona got between Fletcher and Nick Swisher, who had taken offense to a called third strike on Michael Brantley to end the inning. It marked the second time this season that Francona had been tossed from a game.
