Nick Tepesch struggled against the Brewers Thursday, allowing seven hits, five runs (four earned) and two walks over 2 1/3 innings.
Tepesch held it together for a couple innings but the wheels fell off in the third when he allowed five straight runners to reach base. The right-hander is understandably rusty after missing all of last season with shoulder and elbow issues. Time is not on Tepesch’s side as he only has a couple more chances to make his case for the starting rotation. Mar 18 - 12:04 AM

Rangers re-signed RHP Nick Tepesch to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Tepesch was non-tendered by the Rangers back in December, but now he's back with the organization. The 27-year-old missed all of last season with elbow issues and underwent surgery in August to correct thoracic outlet syndrome. He has begun throwing off a mound, but his status for the start of 2016 is unclear.

Rangers non-tendered RHP Nick Tepesch.

Tepesch's future is cloudy at the moment. In August, he underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, which could put his 2016 season in jeopardy. Prior to the procedure, the 27-year-old right-hander held a serviceable 4.36 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 56/44 K/BB ratio over 126 innings. He's in the free agent pool for the time being, though the Rangers have indicated that they'd like to re-sign him on a minor league contract.

Rangers activated RHP Nick Tepesch from the 60-day disabled list.

Tepesch underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in August, and his availability for the 2016 season remains in serious doubt. The 27-year-old posted a 4.36 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 56/44 K/BB ratio across 126 innings for the Rangers in 2015.

Nick Tepesch (arm) is expected to undergo thoracic outlet syndrome surgery.

He'll meet with Rangers physician Dr. Keith Meister once more before a final decision is made, but the expectation is that he'll go under the knife. Thoracic outlet surgery is a tricky procedure that has spelled doom for many careers, but Tepesch has been dealing with nerve issues for a while now and looks to have no other alternative.

Nick Tepesch (elbow) was shut down after suffering a setback last week.

It's unclear how long the shutdown period will be. Tepesch has been sidelined all season with an elbow issue and it's looking like a long shot that he'll contribute anything in 2015.

Rangers transferred RHP Nick Tepesch from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the Rangers' 40-man roster for the arrival of Josh Hamilton. Tepesch remains out indefinitely with a nerve issue in his elbow.

Nick Tepesch will begin the season on Triple-A Round Rock's disabled list due to ulnar nerve inflammation.

Tepesch also dealt with the same issue back in 2013 and missed two months of action. He'll rest for three weeks before being re-evaluated.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Tepesch to Triple-A Round Rock.

Nick Martinez took the final spot in the Rangers' rotation, so Tepesch will act as organizational depth. Tepesch had a 10.38 ERA this spring in the Cactus League.

Nick Tepesch was hit hard by the Dodgers, giving up seven runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings on Sunday.

It's the second time this spring Tepesch has allowed seven runs, and now sports an ugly 10.38 ERA in 17 1/3 Cactus League innings. He lost out on the No. 5 spot in the Rangers' rotation to Nick Martinez, and is now pitching for a long relief role.

Nick Tepesch pitched decently in Tuesday's Cactus League start against the Angels, allowing three runs on four hits over five frames.

Tepesch walked one and struck out one on the afternoon, and was tagged for a solo home run off the bat of Albert Pujols. He's still in the running for one of the final spots in the Rangers rotation to begin the season, but with an 8.56 ERA in Cactus League play, he isn't an appealing option even if he does manage to earn a job.

Nick Tepesch bounced back, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings against the White Sox on Thursday.

Tepesch took a shellacking versus the Giants last Friday, so he needed to turn things around. He limited the White Sox to three hits and a walk. Tepesch is pitching for a spot at the back of the Rangers' starting rotation. More outings like Thursday's could give him the edge when manager Jeff Banister's 25-man roster is finalized.

Nick Tepesch was obliterated by the Giants in Cactus League play on Friday, allowing seven runs on seven hits over 1 1/3 innings.

The Giants got to him early and often in this one, including Matt Duffy leaving the yard to start a five-run uprising in the second inning. While he's still being considered for one of the final spots in the Opening Day rotation, he'll have to pitch much better than this to have a chance.

Nick Tepesch was hammered in Friday's loss to the Athletics, giving up five runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Tepesch also issued four walks while striking out two. The A's broke the game open in with a three-run uprising in the third inning, capped off by a solo homer from Josh Reddick. Tepesch finishes the season with a 4.36 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 56/44 K/BB ratio over 126 innings. His strong finish to the season should give him a leg up on the competition for one of the final spots in the Rangers rotation heading into the 2015 season.

Nick Tepesch allowed one run on four hits over seven innings but settled for a no-decision against the Angels on Sunday.

Tepesch has now turned in two fairly similar outings his last two times out, both Rangers wins. Despite not factoring in the decision, he lowered his ERA to 4.14 with the strong turn Sunday. It's something to build on for next year, and Tepesch will have one more chance to improve his numbers Friday against the Athletics.
