Jesus Sucre (hip) has declared himself ready for Cactus League action.

"I feel a lot better," Sucre said Wednesday. "I practiced yesterday and I think I'm ready to go. I still feel it a little bit, but it's OK." Sucre missed a couple games due to a small hip injury, but it's nothing that should keep him out during the regular season.

Jesus Sucre (hip) could return to action as soon as Wednesday.

Sucre tweaked his hip during Sunday's Cactus League game and will miss his second straight day of action Tuesday, but it's not a long-term concern. The 26-year-old is currently competing for the Mariners' backup catcher gig.

It's believed the young backstop tweaked his hip during Sunday's Cactus League contest. He is in camp competing to be the primary backup behind starter Mike Zunino.

Mariners recalled C Jesus Sucre from Triple-A Tacoma.

Sucre is replacing veteran catcher John Buck, who was designated for assignment late Monday night. The 26-year-old was batting just .274/.293/.360 this season at the Triple-A level and is not fantasy-relevant.

Mariners optioned C Jesus Sucre, 1B Ji-Man Choi, INF Carlos Triunfel, LHP Bobby LaFromboise and RHP Logan Bawcom to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned C Mike Dowd, INFs Ty Kelly and Nate Tenbrink, RHPs Logan Kensing and Matt Palmer and LHP Nick Hill to minor league camp.

Sucre and Triunfel figure to ride the Tacoma-to-Seattle shuttle throughout the season as needed for extra catching and infield depth, respectively, while LaFromboise and Bawcom will get a shot in the MLB bullpen at some point in 2014 unless they implode on the farm. Choi is an intriguing bat who was added to the 40-man roster in November after slashing a robust .309/.411/.511 over 238 career minor league games. The Mariners now have 44 players in big league camp.

Jesus Sucre (hand) began a rehab assignment with the Mariners' Arizona League affiliate Thursday.

Sucre has been sidelined for the past two months due to a fractured left hand. He should be an option to rejoin the Mariners soon but isn't a given to be added to the big league roster.

Mariners placed C Jesus Sucre on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 5, with a fractured left hand.

Sucre was hit by a pitch while catching in Tuesday's game. The Mariners have recalled Carlos Triunfel to replace him on the active roster.

X-rays on Jesus Sucre's left hand were inconclusive after he was hit by a bad pitch while catching in Tuesday's game.

Sucre is scheduled for more tests Wednesday. If the Mariners need to replace him for a while, it's possible they'll call up top prospect Mike Zunino, though that's not something they wanted to do just yet. Jesus Montero isn't an option, since he's down with a knee injury. Brandon Bantz would be the other possibility for the team.

Mariners purchased the contract of C Jesus Sucre from Triple-A Tacoma.

Sucre, 25, has a .302/.371/.321 batting line in 14 games as a part-time Triple-A catcher. Mike Zunino still needs development time, so the Mariners are promoting Sucre to replace the struggling Jesus Montero.
