Pirates acquired 3B Colin Moran, RHPs Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz and OF Jason Martin from the Astros for RHP Gerrit Cole.
Moran is on his third organization despite good numbers in the minors and being the No. 6 overall pick in 2013. In Houston, he was blocked by a terrific left side of the infield; in Pittsburgh, David Freese won't put up much of a fight for the starting job. If he finds regular at-bats, Moran should find single league value and could surprise some in 2018. Jan 13 - 7:29 PM

Third baseman Colin Moran is among the players traded to the Pirates in exchange for Gerrit Cole, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports.

Moran is one of four headed to Pittsburgh, per reports. A high first-round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, Moran is still just 25 years old and hit .308/.373/.534 with 18 homers in 79 games at Triple-A last season. David Freese isn't the long-term answer at the hot corner for the Pirates, so Moran could take over as soon as 2018.

Colin Moran will play some left field next spring.

Moran has been a third baseman almost exclusively in his pro career, but Alex Bregman is locked into that spot in Houston for the long term. Moran did see four starts in left field this past season at Triple-A Fresno. The 25-year-old has a big bat and a good chance of cracking the Astros' Opening Day roster in 2018 if he can add a little more defensive versatility.

Astros activated INF Colin Moran from the 10-day disabled list.

He'll join the team on Tuesday. Moran has been sidelined since late July due to multiple facial fractures and a concussion sustained when a foul tip caught him in the eye. He'll provide bench depth for the Astros down the stretch.

Colin Moran (face) has begun a rehab assignment with the Astros' Gulf Coast League affiliate.

And he will soon move his minor league rehab assignment to Low-A Quad Cities with an eye on rejoining the Astros before mid-September. Moran suffered a concussion and multiple facial fractures when a foul tip caught him in the eye back in late July.

Colin Moran underwent surgery Monday to repair facial fractures suffered in a July 22 game in Baltimore.

Moran also suffered a concussion as a result of a foul ball that caught him in the eye. He's expected to be sidelined until September.

Astros placed 3B Colin Moran on the 10-day disabled list with a facial fracture.

Moran is also dealing with a concussion after having to be carted off the field Saturday after fouling a ball off his eye. He's expected to need surgery, although that hasn't officially been determined yet. Moran is likely to miss at least six weeks.

Colin Moran was carted off the field Saturday against the Orioles after fouling a ball off his left eye.

It was a scary moment for Moran, who went down immediately and is headed to a local hospital for further evaluation. His eye was noticeably bruised and bloodied after Darren O'Day's pitch struck the handle of his bat and headed straight for his face. Moran, who slugged his first big league homer on Friday, went 1-for-2 with a single before exiting in the sixth inning. If it's any consolation, Marwin Gonzalez finished Moran's at-bat by launching a three-run homer onto Eutaw Street. With Moran certain to land on the disabled list, look for the Astros to make a roster move on Sunday.

Colin Moran went 2-for-4 and clubbed the first home run of his major league career on Friday as the Astros outlasted the Orioles.

The rookie third baseman contributed an RBI triple and came around to score a run in the second inning. He then tagged Richard Bleier for his memorable blast in the eighth and returned to the dugout only to get the silent treatment from his teammates. Not a bad season debut for the 24-year-old.

Astros recalled INF Colin Moran from Triple-A Fresno.

Moran will give the Astros infield depth with star shortstop Carlos Correa landing on the disabled list Tuesday due to a torn thumb ligament. Moran, 24, was batting .308/.373/.543 with 18 home runs and 63 RBI in 79 games this season at the Triple-A level and is capable of providing meaningful fantasy value if he gets regular playing time. Marwin Gonzalez figures to take the bulk of starts at short.

Astros optioned INF Colin Moran to Triple-A Fresno.

Moran batted .389 (14-for-36) with two homers and two doubles over 19 games this spring, but he was always expected to begin the year in the minors. He could see time at multiple positions for a possible switch to a utility role.

Colin Moran went 2-for-4 with a two-run double Monday against the Cardinals.

Moran has never played anywhere other than third in a regular-season game, but he started at first and moved to shortstop during today's game. He's off to a great start this spring, with a .409 average and two homers through 22 at-bats, but there's no room for him on Houston's roster. The Astros should keep moving him around the infield in Triple-A, since a future as a starting third baseman is looking less likely.

Colin Moran homered in the bottom of the eighth to help the Astros earn a 5-5 tie against the Red Sox on Monday.

Moran was the Astros' third baseman for a minute and a half last May, but the 2013 first-round pick is barely a factor in the team's plans now. He ended up hitting just .259/.329/.368 in Triple-A last year, and his glove probably isn't good enough to make up for the lack of power at third base. He's not hopeless yet, but he needs a trade.

Astros recalled 3B Colin Moran from Triple-A Fresno.

Moran batted just .105 (2-for-19) in an earlier stint with the big club. He'll provide depth with Alex Bregman (hamstring) injured.

Moran batted just .105 (2-for-19) with two RBI and a 6/1 K/BB ratio during his first stint in the majors. Carlos Gomez is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday and will take his place on the active roster.
