Astros prospect Colin Moran went 5-for-8 Saturday with eight RBI in a doubleheader for Double-A Corpus Christi.

That RBI total represents more than half of Moran's season output. Moran has raised his average from .180 to .254 over the last three games. This marks Moran's second year in Double-A after hitting .304 in 28 games for Corpus Christi in 2014. The 22-year-old and former first-round draft pick is still looking for his first home run of the season.

Astros prospect third baseman Colin Moran went 2-for-4 with a double and a sacrifice fly for Double-A Corpus Christi on Friday.

Moran has hit better in Double-A (.304/.359/.449) than he did in High-A (.294/.342/.393), which has made the Astros look quite smart. He was the sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft, and could make his major league debut as soon as mid-2015. Moran projects as a .300 hitter with 30-plus doubles, and his future role will be determined by his play and the play of fellow Astros third base prospect Rio Ruiz.

Astros third base prospect Colin Moran went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk for Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday.

Moran has hits in six of eight games in Double-A, and is hitting .281/.343/.438 in the Texas League. He has 23 doubles and six home runs across two levels this season, and is likely to reach the major leagues in 2015. Moran lacks elite upside, but could be a solid defensive third baseman who hits .300 with 30-plus doubles, though he is likely to need to make way for Rio Ruiz, who has significantly higher potential.

Astros third base prospect Colin Moran went 2-for-5 with a double on Wednesday for Double-A Corpus Christi, raising his season line to .300/.364/.400.

Moran was moved from High-A to Double-A when he came to the Astros organization, and he has kept raking. He has not hit for power during his time in professional baseball, but he has the potential to bat .300 with 30-plus doubles as a major leaguer. Moran may be a level ahead of Rio Ruiz, but Ruiz is firmly ahead on prospect ranking lists for now.

Astros acquired 3B Colin Moran from the Marlins in the Jarred Cosart deal.

The Astros nearly took Moran with the first overall pick in the 2013 draft and now they end up getting him barely over a year later. Moran has hit .295/.346/.408 with just nine homers over his first 131 professional games, but Houston obviously thinks he could become a productive regular at third base in time.

Marlins third base prospect Colin Moran went 3-for-4 with a double for High-A Jupiter on Friday, raising his season line to .303/.347/.408.

Moran's big day brought his batting average above the magical .300 mark for the first time since going 2-for-4 in the first game of the season. After hitting .337/.376/.485 in June, Moran has remained hot in July, hitting .342/.390/.421. Moran could be in line for a promotion to Double-A Jacksonville before the end of the season, and could be manning the hot corner in Miami as soon as mid-2015.

Marlins third base prospect Colin Moran went 4-for-8 in a doubleheader for High-A Jupiter on Thursday.

Moran's hot June continues, as he is hitting .352/.368/.556 with five doubles and two home runs for the month. Despite a plebeian .292/.330/.406 season line, Moran's recent hitting could put him in line for a promotion to Double-A Jacksonville. He projects as a .300 hitter and an average defender, though there are questions as to how much power he will have.

Marlins third base prospect Colin Moran stayed hot on Monday, going 3-for-5 with two doubles for High-A Jupiter.

After a brutal start, Moran has hits in 12 of his last 13 games, hitting .339/.377/.554 with six doubles and two home runs. He has the talent to be a good defensive third baseman who hits .300 with some pop, but it was worrisome when he struggled to start the season. If he keeps hitting, Moran will likely end the season with Double-A Jacksonville.

Marlins third base prospect Colin Moran went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run for High-A Jupiter on Saturday.

Moran has homered in consecutive games, and now has three home runs and 12 doubles for the season. He is hitting .272/.316/.389 for the season, but has hit better as of late, and is hitting .324/.350/.568 in his last eight games.

Marlins third base prospect Colin Moran went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts for High-A Jupiter on Monday, lowering his season line to .266/.310/.348.

Moran has one home run in 171 plate appearances, and has not displayed the advanced hitting ability that was touted when he was the sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft. He has hit better as of late, hitting .320/.370/.400 over his last 10 games, but advanced hitters should be dominating the Florida State League.

Marlins third base prospect Colin Moran went 3-for-5 with two doubles on Friday for High-A Jupiter.

In the fourth inning, Moran had a single, a double, two runs, and three RBI, as the Jupiter Hammerheads scored 11 runs. He's up to .284/.347/.373 for the season with seven walks and 10 strikeouts in 17 games. The 2013 first round pick could be in Miami by the end of 2015 if he keeps hitting.

Marlins prospect 3B Colin Moran was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a walk Sunday for High-A Jupiter.

The sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft, Moran's season only began last week after he was sidelined by a knee injury, but the 21-year-old has swung the bat decently since returning and is batting .316/.458/.421 with a 5/3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in five games.
Mon, Apr 28, 2014 01:14:00 PM

Marlins prospect third baseman Colin Moran went 1-for-3 with two walks and two strikeouts on Friday for High-A Jupiter.

Moran is 3-for-11 with three walks and two strikeouts in his first three games back from the disabled list due to a knee injury. He lacks the projectibility to be a star, but he could be a solid defensive third baseman who hits .300 with high OBP and 15 home runs.
Sat, Apr 26, 2014 12:31:00 PM

Marlins third base prospect Colin Moran will open the season on High-A Jupiter's disabled list due to a medial meniscus sprain in his left knee.

The sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft, Moran is expected to be a quick riser through the system, but this will set him back a bit. It's possible he could push for a call-up by the end of the season.
