Astros optioned 3B Colin Moran to Triple-A Fresno.

Moran batted just .105 (2-for-19) with two RBI and a 6/1 K/BB ratio during his first stint in the majors. Carlos Gomez is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday and will take his place on the active roster.
May 30 - 7:24 PM

Colin Moran collected his first two major league hits and an RBI against the Angels on Friday.

Moran's single in the ninth plated the Astros' only two runs of the game. He's 2-for-16 since being called up 11 days ago. The slow start has already resulted in him playing less than originally expected, but this could help some.
May 28 - 1:07 AM

Colin Moran is starting at third and batting sixth for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

In 125 at-bats for Triple-A Fresno this season, Moran was slashing .288/.331/.416 with three home runs and 22 RBI. He has never hit double-digit home runs at any level of the minors. Those in deeper AL-only formats should feel free to take a speculative flier -- the 23-year-old should see playing time with the Astros -- but fantasy fireworks are probably going to be relatively limited.
May 18 - 4:39 PM

Astros purchased the contract of 3B Colin Moran from Triple-A Fresno.

This confirms what was reported by Peter Gammons on Tuesday morning. The call-up comes as a bit of a surprise, but FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Astros plan to give Moran significant playing time. The 23-year-old was batting .288/.331/.416 with three home runs and 22 RBI over 32 games this season in Triple-A. He's capable of hitting for average, but the lack of power caps his upside in mixed fantasy leagues.
May 17 - 1:59 PM

According to Peter Gammons, the Astros are calling up prospect third baseman Colin Moran from Triple-A Fresno.

The corresponding roster move isn't yet known, but it's worth noting that Marwin Gonzalez was unavailable Sunday after fouling a ball of his right foot. Moran, 23, was batting .288/.331/.416 with three home runs and 22 RBI over 32 games this season in Triple-A. He's worth grabbing in AL-only leagues, but hasn't shown enough power to be on the mixed league radar.
May 17 - 8:27 AM

Astros GM Jeff Luhnow believes 3B prospect Colin Moran is "one injury or slump" away from being called up to the majors.

Moran impressed the Astros in spring training with a .349 average over 43 at-bats. That success has carried into the regular season as the 23-year-old is hitting .342 with nine RBI in 11 games for Triple-A Fresno. "If [Tyler] White did not have the spring he had, there would have been a legitimate discussion about [Luis] Valbuena at 1B and Moran at 3B to open the year," said Luhnow. "He's on my shortlist." Moran should join Houston in the very near future.

Astros 3B prospect Colin Moran smashed two homers in Saturday's loss for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Saturday was Moran's first career multi-homer game. He's hit .362 with 31 RBI since July 1. The 22-year-old is fifth in the Texas League in batting average (.312), sixth in slugging (.480) and sixth in OPS (.854). The former first-round pick hasn't gone hitless in back-to-back games since July 2.

Astros prospect 3B Colin Moran went 3-for-5 with a home run and double on Monday for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Moran had a rough first half that included nearly a month on the disabled list with a fractured jaw, but the 2013 first-round pick has been red hot of late, with a .414 average, 1.098 OPS, seven extra-base hits and 15 RBI in his last 15 games. Overall, the 22-year-old is batting .299/.360/.417 with two home runs, 19 extra-base hits and 41 RBI in 54 games. While Moran profiles as an above-average hitter with good on-base skills in the big leagues, it’s hard to get excited about a third baseman with 13 career home runs in 213 games.

Astros third base prospect Colin Moran suffered a non-displaced fracture of his jaw on Thursday.

The injury occurred when he was struck by an errant pickoff attempt as he slid back into second base. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Moran is hitting .268/.318/.378 with no homers and 17 RBI at Double-A Corpus Christi this season.

Astros prospect Colin Moran went 5-for-8 Saturday with eight RBI in a doubleheader for Double-A Corpus Christi.

That RBI total represents more than half of Moran's season output. Moran has raised his average from .180 to .254 over the last three games. This marks Moran's second year in Double-A after hitting .304 in 28 games for Corpus Christi in 2014. The 22-year-old and former first-round draft pick is still looking for his first home run of the season.

Astros prospect third baseman Colin Moran went 2-for-4 with a double and a sacrifice fly for Double-A Corpus Christi on Friday.

Moran has hit better in Double-A (.304/.359/.449) than he did in High-A (.294/.342/.393), which has made the Astros look quite smart. He was the sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft, and could make his major league debut as soon as mid-2015. Moran projects as a .300 hitter with 30-plus doubles, and his future role will be determined by his play and the play of fellow Astros third base prospect Rio Ruiz.

Astros third base prospect Colin Moran went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk for Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday.

Moran has hits in six of eight games in Double-A, and is hitting .281/.343/.438 in the Texas League. He has 23 doubles and six home runs across two levels this season, and is likely to reach the major leagues in 2015. Moran lacks elite upside, but could be a solid defensive third baseman who hits .300 with 30-plus doubles, though he is likely to need to make way for Rio Ruiz, who has significantly higher potential.

Astros third base prospect Colin Moran went 2-for-5 with a double on Wednesday for Double-A Corpus Christi, raising his season line to .300/.364/.400.

Moran was moved from High-A to Double-A when he came to the Astros organization, and he has kept raking. He has not hit for power during his time in professional baseball, but he has the potential to bat .300 with 30-plus doubles as a major leaguer. Moran may be a level ahead of Rio Ruiz, but Ruiz is firmly ahead on prospect ranking lists for now.

Astros acquired 3B Colin Moran from the Marlins in the Jarred Cosart deal.

The Astros nearly took Moran with the first overall pick in the 2013 draft and now they end up getting him barely over a year later. Moran has hit .295/.346/.408 with just nine homers over his first 131 professional games, but Houston obviously thinks he could become a productive regular at third base in time.
