Astros placed 3B Colin Moran on the 10-day disabled list with a facial fracture.
Moran is also dealing with a concussion after having to be carted off the field Saturday after fouling a ball off his eye. He's expected to need surgery, although that hasn't officially been determined yet. Moran is likely to miss at least six weeks. Jul 23 - 10:26 AM

Colin Moran was carted off the field Saturday against the Orioles after fouling a ball off his left eye.

It was a scary moment for Moran, who went down immediately and is headed to a local hospital for further evaluation. His eye was noticeably bruised and bloodied after Darren O'Day's pitch struck the handle of his bat and headed straight for his face. Moran, who slugged his first big league homer on Friday, went 1-for-2 with a single before exiting in the sixth inning. If it's any consolation, Marwin Gonzalez finished Moran's at-bat by launching a three-run homer onto Eutaw Street. With Moran certain to land on the disabled list, look for the Astros to make a roster move on Sunday.
Jul 22 - 10:54 PM

Colin Moran went 2-for-4 and clubbed the first home run of his major league career on Friday as the Astros outlasted the Orioles.

The rookie third baseman contributed an RBI triple and came around to score a run in the second inning. He then tagged Richard Bleier for his memorable blast in the eighth and returned to the dugout only to get the silent treatment from his teammates. Not a bad season debut for the 24-year-old.

Astros recalled INF Colin Moran from Triple-A Fresno.

Moran will give the Astros infield depth with star shortstop Carlos Correa landing on the disabled list Tuesday due to a torn thumb ligament. Moran, 24, was batting .308/.373/.543 with 18 home runs and 63 RBI in 79 games this season at the Triple-A level and is capable of providing meaningful fantasy value if he gets regular playing time. Marwin Gonzalez figures to take the bulk of starts at short.
Jul 18 - 4:23 PM

Astros optioned INF Colin Moran to Triple-A Fresno.

Moran batted .389 (14-for-36) with two homers and two doubles over 19 games this spring, but he was always expected to begin the year in the minors. He could see time at multiple positions for a possible switch to a utility role.
Mar 21 - 8:42 AM

Colin Moran went 2-for-4 with a two-run double Monday against the Cardinals.

Moran has never played anywhere other than third in a regular-season game, but he started at first and moved to shortstop during today's game. He's off to a great start this spring, with a .409 average and two homers through 22 at-bats, but there's no room for him on Houston's roster. The Astros should keep moving him around the infield in Triple-A, since a future as a starting third baseman is looking less likely.
Mar 13 - 3:52 PM

Colin Moran homered in the bottom of the eighth to help the Astros earn a 5-5 tie against the Red Sox on Monday.

Moran was the Astros' third baseman for a minute and a half last May, but the 2013 first-round pick is barely a factor in the team's plans now. He ended up hitting just .259/.329/.368 in Triple-A last year, and his glove probably isn't good enough to make up for the lack of power at third base. He's not hopeless yet, but he needs a trade.
Mar 6 - 5:16 PM

Astros recalled 3B Colin Moran from Triple-A Fresno.

Moran batted just .105 (2-for-19) in an earlier stint with the big club. He'll provide depth with Alex Bregman (hamstring) injured.

Astros optioned 3B Colin Moran to Triple-A Fresno.

Moran batted just .105 (2-for-19) with two RBI and a 6/1 K/BB ratio during his first stint in the majors. Carlos Gomez is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday and will take his place on the active roster.

Colin Moran collected his first two major league hits and an RBI against the Angels on Friday.

Moran's single in the ninth plated the Astros' only two runs of the game. He's 2-for-16 since being called up 11 days ago. The slow start has already resulted in him playing less than originally expected, but this could help some.

Colin Moran is starting at third and batting sixth for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

In 125 at-bats for Triple-A Fresno this season, Moran was slashing .288/.331/.416 with three home runs and 22 RBI. He has never hit double-digit home runs at any level of the minors. Those in deeper AL-only formats should feel free to take a speculative flier -- the 23-year-old should see playing time with the Astros -- but fantasy fireworks are probably going to be relatively limited.

Astros purchased the contract of 3B Colin Moran from Triple-A Fresno.

This confirms what was reported by Peter Gammons on Tuesday morning. The call-up comes as a bit of a surprise, but FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Astros plan to give Moran significant playing time. The 23-year-old was batting .288/.331/.416 with three home runs and 22 RBI over 32 games this season in Triple-A. He's capable of hitting for average, but the lack of power caps his upside in mixed fantasy leagues.

According to Peter Gammons, the Astros are calling up prospect third baseman Colin Moran from Triple-A Fresno.

The corresponding roster move isn't yet known, but it's worth noting that Marwin Gonzalez was unavailable Sunday after fouling a ball of his right foot. Moran, 23, was batting .288/.331/.416 with three home runs and 22 RBI over 32 games this season in Triple-A. He's worth grabbing in AL-only leagues, but hasn't shown enough power to be on the mixed league radar.

Astros GM Jeff Luhnow believes 3B prospect Colin Moran is "one injury or slump" away from being called up to the majors.

Moran impressed the Astros in spring training with a .349 average over 43 at-bats. That success has carried into the regular season as the 23-year-old is hitting .342 with nine RBI in 11 games for Triple-A Fresno. "If [Tyler] White did not have the spring he had, there would have been a legitimate discussion about [Luis] Valbuena at 1B and Moran at 3B to open the year," said Luhnow. "He's on my shortlist." Moran should join Houston in the very near future.

Astros 3B prospect Colin Moran smashed two homers in Saturday's loss for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Saturday was Moran's first career multi-homer game. He's hit .362 with 31 RBI since July 1. The 22-year-old is fifth in the Texas League in batting average (.312), sixth in slugging (.480) and sixth in OPS (.854). The former first-round pick hasn't gone hitless in back-to-back games since July 2.
