Colin Moran delivered a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the sixth inning on Friday which proved to be the difference in the Pirates' 3-2 victory over the Reds.

Starling Marte had delivered a game-tying sacrifice fly just before Moran put the Pirates ahead to stay. The rookie third baseman also singled, walked and scored a run in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-2. He's hitting .273/.359/.412 with five homers and 26 RBI in his first 217 plate appearances with the Pirates.

Colin Moran went 1-for-3 and drilled a solo home run as his team fell to the Cardinals on Saturday.

He took starter Luke Weaver deep in the fifth inning to tie the game at one run apiece. The third baseman came to the Pirates from the Astros in the Gerrit Cole trade and has settled in nicely. He has a .277/.354/.428 triple slash with five home runs and 25 RBI on the season. He could see his playing time challenged if the suspended Jung Ho Kang comes back to the Pirates.
Jun 2 - 5:46 PM

Colin Moran went 2-for-4 as his team fell to the Cardinals on Saturday.

Both hits were singles and neither helped produce a run. The rest of the Pirates combined for just four hits against Jack Flaherty and company. Moran came to the Pirates in the Gerrit Cole trade with the Astros over the winter. The rookie is getting steady playing time at third base. He has a .266 batting average with four home runs and 22 RBI in 160 plate appearances.
May 26 - 7:27 PM

Colin Moran ripped a solo home run Tuesday in Cincinnati.

Moran's blast off of Matt Harvey in the fourth inning was the only tally the Pirates were able to muster off of the right-hander. It was the third baseman's fourth dinger of the season. Moran has posted a solid .285/.378/.455 for the Pirates but hasn't done much in the way of counting stats.
May 22 - 11:37 PM

Colin Moran slugged a two-run homer in the ninth inning Wednesday in the Pirates’ come-from-behind win over the White Sox.

He only logged one hit in this one, but boy was it a big one. Trailing 5-4 in the ninth, Moran swatted a two-run blast off right-hander Nate Jones to give Pittsburgh its first lead of the afternoon. Four of the Pirates’ six runs on Wednesday came in the ninth inning. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Pittsburgh after trading away Andrew McCutchen and Gerrit Cole, but instead the Pirates find themselves only a half-game out of first in the NL Central. The round-tripper was Moran’s third of the year and his first since April 25.
May 9 - 5:36 PM

Colin Moran went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.

Moran greeted Cardinals reliever Jordan Hicks with a first-pitch single that plated a run in the Pirates' four-run sixth inning. He later came around to score the fourth run of the inning after Adam Frazier was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Moran has enjoyed a nice start to his Pirates career, hitting .288/.363/.425 with 14 RBI and nine runs through his first 25 games in black and yellow.
Apr 29 - 5:17 PM

Colin Moran went 2-for-4 on Sunday in a victory against the Reds.

Both hits were singles for the 25-year-old rookie, who picked up seven hits in the series with the Reds. He's not your prototypical power hitter at third, but he's capable of hitting for a high average while providing 15-plus homers, and you can do much worse than that.
Apr 8 - 4:33 PM

Colin Moran had a huge night at the plate Friday against the Reds, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Moran knocked in a run with a double in the second inning before plating two more runs with a single in the third. The 25-year-old is off to a good start with his new team, batting .318/.348/.545 with eight RBI through his first six games. Locked in as Pittsburgh's regular third baseman, he’s worth a pickup in deeper mixed leagues.
Apr 6 - 11:09 PM

Colin Moran hit a grand slam and walked Monday in the Pirates' 5-4 win over the Twins.

The first-inning homer was Moran's second in 19 major league games since he debuted with the Astros in 2016. He's probably not going to do enough in any category to be of much use in mixed leagues this year, but he can be a decent starter against right-handers for the Pirates.
Apr 2 - 4:59 PM

Colin Moran is in the starting lineup and hitting eighth for the Pirates in their opening game against the Tigers on Friday.

Moran came over to the Pirates in the deal for Gerrit Cole, and earned the starting job at the hot corner after his strong spring training. The rest of the Pittsburgh lineup against Detroit starter Jordan Zimmerman: Adam Frazier DH, Josh Harrison 2B, Gregory Polanco RF, Josh Bell 1B, Corey Dickerson LF, Starling Marte CF, Francisco Cervelli C, Moran 3B, and Jordy Mercer SS.
Mar 30 - 10:03 AM

Colin Moran went 2-for-2 and worked a walk in a loss to the Braves in Saturday's Grapefruit League game.

One of the hits was a double as he boosted his spring line to .360/.407/.480 so far. He figures to be the Pirates' starting third baseman this year after coming over from the Astros in the Gerrit Cole trade.
Mar 10 - 5:01 PM

Pirates acquired 3B Colin Moran, RHPs Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz and OF Jason Martin from the Astros for RHP Gerrit Cole.

Moran is on his third organization despite good numbers in the minors and being the No. 6 overall pick in 2013. In Houston, he was blocked by a terrific left side of the infield; in Pittsburgh, David Freese won't put up much of a fight for the starting job. If he finds regular at-bats, Moran should find single league value and could surprise some in 2018.
Jan 13 - 7:29 PM

Third baseman Colin Moran is among the players traded to the Pirates in exchange for Gerrit Cole, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports.

Moran is one of four headed to Pittsburgh, per reports. A high first-round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, Moran is still just 25 years old and hit .308/.373/.534 with 18 homers in 79 games at Triple-A last season. David Freese isn't the long-term answer at the hot corner for the Pirates, so Moran could take over as soon as 2018.
Jan 13 - 6:52 PM

Colin Moran will play some left field next spring.

Moran has been a third baseman almost exclusively in his pro career, but Alex Bregman is locked into that spot in Houston for the long term. Moran did see four starts in left field this past season at Triple-A Fresno. The 25-year-old has a big bat and a good chance of cracking the Astros' Opening Day roster in 2018 if he can add a little more defensive versatility.
