Royals assistant general manager J.J. Picollo suggested Tuesday that Hunter Dozier could play first base for the team in 2018.
Eric Hosmer is likely to depart as a free agent this winter, so the Royals are considering a variety of new looks at first base. Dozier was drafted (eighth overall) as a third baseman in 2013 and has primarily played the hot corner in the minor leagues, but the 26-year-old does have a bit of experience on the other side of the diamond. Cheslor Cuthbert is another possibility to take over for Hosmer, though he could be needed at third base if impending free agent Mike Moustakas also leaves Kansas City. Oct 24 - 7:59 PM

Date:

Hunter Dozier has been diagnosed with a left hamate bone fracture.

That'll cost the 25-year-old outfielder another month at least. Dozier, who's currently stationed at Triple-A Omaha, already missed most of April and May because of a Grade 2 oblique strain.

Royals reinstated OF Hunter Dozier from his rehab assignment; optioned him to Triple-A Omaha.

He's finally back from his oblique strain but there isn't a spot for him in Kansas City. Dozier got his first taste of the majors as a September call-up last season, batting .211 in eight games down the stretch. The 25-year-old should get another shot with the big club at some point this year.
Jun 1 - 6:05 PM

Hunter Dozier (oblique) had his rehab assignment transferred to Triple-A Omaha.

Dozier, who suffered an oblique strain during spring training, batted .364 (4-for-11) with a double over three games with High-A Wilmington. The 25-year-old will likely remain in Triple-A once he's deemed back to full health.
May 29 - 3:16 PM

Hunter Dozier (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Wilmington.

Dozier has been out all season after suffering a Grade 2 strain of his oblique during spring training. He's on the 60-day disabled list and will likely be optioned to Triple-A Omaha once he's back to full health.
May 23 - 11:24 AM

Royals manager Ned Yost confirmed Sunday that Hunter Dozier is dealing with a Grade 2 oblique strain.

He suffered the injury while swinging during a Cactus League game earlier in the week. He's expected to be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks and isn't likely to be an option for the Royals until June.
Apr 2 - 6:47 PM

Royals recalled 3B/OF Hunter Dozier from Triple-A Omaha; placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a strained left oblique.

The move was made in order to free up a 40-man roster spot for Peter Moyan. At least Dozier gets to collect a major league paycheck for a while now.
Apr 2 - 11:36 AM

Royals optioned infielder-outfielder Hunter Dozier to Triple-A Omaha.

Dozier had a .294/.357/.506 line in Triple-A last year and was hitting .409/.481/.818 in 22 at-bats this spring, but the Royals never gave him a shot to win a job. He'll probably see more time at third base than in the outfield in Triple-A, as the Royals want him to be a candidate to take over at the hot corner if Mike Moustakas leaves in free agency next winter.
Mar 17 - 12:21 PM

Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports that Hunter Dozier has been battling a minor wrist issue.

It's something that Dozier first felt last August and has lingered since. While it doesn't sound like anything serious at this point, it's worth monitoring. It's going to take an injury or a trade of Mike Moustakas for Dozier to get a real shot with the big league club in 2017.
Feb 26 - 7:22 PM

Royals purchased the contract of 3B Hunter Dozier from Triple-A Omaha.

The former first-round pick earned a promotion by batting .296/.366/.533 with 23 homers between Double- and Triple-A. He doesn't figure to receive many at-bats with Cheslor Cuthbert playing well.

Royals 3B prospect Hunter Dozier racked up five hits in Wednesday's doubleheader for Triple-A Omaha.

The Storm Chasers swept the double dip with Iowa, winning the opener 4-3 before capturing the nightcap in a 7-5 decision. Dozier is on an absurd hot streak right now. He's hit .600 with two homers and seven RBI during his eight-game hitting streak while lifting his season average from .292 to .335. The 24-year-old owns the Pacific Coast League's sixth-highest batting average and ninth-highest OPS (.929).

Royals 3B prospect Hunter Dozier homered and drove in two runs Monday in a win for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

The 24-year-old has hit .400 with three home runs during his five-game hitting streak, raising his average from .288 to .316. Dozier leads the Texas League in slugging percentage (.684) and is second in OPS (1.103). He's also second in homers (seven), third in doubles (eight) and third in RBI (18). The former first-round pick has been a threat on the base paths as well, stealing four bags without getting caught. Dozier could be nearing a promotion to Triple-A Omaha.

Royals 3B prospect Hunter Dozier drilled two homers Sunday in a win for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Dozier's three-RBI effort came as part of a 16-run explosion for the Naturals. A 2013 first-round pick out of Stephen F. Austin, the 24-year-old has reached base in seven of his 16 plate appearances this year. Dozier took his lumps last season, hitting just .213 with 151 punch-outs in 475 at-bats for Northwest Arkanas. He should have no trouble improving on those stats this year.

Royals prospect 3B Hunter Dozier went 1-for-5 with his fifth home run of the season on Wednesday for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Dozier has struggled this season in his return to the Texas League, batting just .221/.292/.354 with 20 extra-base hits (five home runs) and 22 RBI through 62 games. He’s also striking out at a 29.2% clip. All that said, the 23-year-old third baseman has been better of late, with an .817 OPS, seven extra-base hits and seven RBI in his last 13 contests. Dozier hasn’t lived up to expectations since the Royals made him the eighth-overall pick in the 2013 draft, but it’s still entirely to early to think he doesn’t have a future in the major leagues.

Royals prospect 3B Hunter Dozier went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and a stolen base on Wednesday for Double-A Arkansas.

Dozier also made two errors, and has 12 in 45 games at third base while in Double-A. He has been lost at the plate for the most part, hitting just .187/.288/.321 since the beginning of July. Dozier has the potential to be a middle-of-the-order threat, but his high strikeout totals and lack of elite power could limit his overall effectiveness.
