Royals prospect 3B Hunter Dozier went 1-for-5 with his fifth home run of the season on Wednesday for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Dozier has struggled this season in his return to the Texas League, batting just .221/.292/.354 with 20 extra-base hits (five home runs) and 22 RBI through 62 games. He’s also striking out at a 29.2% clip. All that said, the 23-year-old third baseman has been better of late, with an .817 OPS, seven extra-base hits and seven RBI in his last 13 contests. Dozier hasn’t lived up to expectations since the Royals made him the eighth-overall pick in the 2013 draft, but it’s still entirely to early to think he doesn’t have a future in the major leagues. Royals prospect 3B Hunter Dozier went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and a stolen base on Wednesday for Double-A Arkansas.

Dozier also made two errors, and has 12 in 45 games at third base while in Double-A. He has been lost at the plate for the most part, hitting just .187/.288/.321 since the beginning of July. Dozier has the potential to be a middle-of-the-order threat, but his high strikeout totals and lack of elite power could limit his overall effectiveness.

Royals third base prospect Hunter Dozier went 2-for-4 with a double for Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Monday.

Dozier has hit well since his promotion, putting up a .265/.322/.422 line over his first 22 games. He has struggled on defense, making six errors on 47 chances. Dozier has the potential to be a middle-of-the-order slugger, and could see time in Kansas City as soon as mid-2015.

Royals third base prospect Hunter Dozier went 2-for-5 with a double for Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Friday.

Dozier also struck out twice, giving him four strikeouts in eight plate appearances against Double-A pitching. Dozier's promotion moved former top third base prospect Cheslor Cuthbert to first base, so the Royals must view Dozier as their third baseman of the future.

Royals promoted third base prospect Hunter Dozier to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

The story was broken Monday by a tweet from Joshua Swann, a former teammate of Dozier's at Stephen F. Austin State University, but there was no confirmation until Wednesday. Dozier put up a solid .295/.397/.429 line at High-A Wilmington, including .318/.422/.477 away from pitcher-friendly Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.

Royals prospect 3B Hunter Dozier turned in another multihit effort on Sunday, going 2-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBI for High-A Wilmington.

Dozier, 22, struggled through the season's first two months, but the 2013 No. 8 overall pick has swung a hot bat over the last several weeks with a .417/.478/.650 batting line, 12 extra-base hits and 11 RBI in his last 16 games. On the season, Dozier is batting .299/.404/.422 with 16 doubles, three home runs, 34 RBI, seven steals and a solid 53-33 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 60 games.

Royals third base prospect Hunter Dozier went 2-for-4 with two doubles on Friday for High-A Wilmington.

After a slow start, Dozier has hit .432/.521/.595 with six doubles over his last 12 games to raise his season line to .272/.388/.367. The 22-year old was the eighth overall pick out of Stephen F. Austin State University in 2013, and has the potential to be a middle of the order contributor in the major leagues if his power develops.

Royals prospect 3B Hunter Dozier was 2-for-3 with his second home run of the season Tuesday for High-A Wilmington.

He also drove in four runs and coaxed a pair of walks in the game. Dozier, 22, has now hit safely in 14 of his last 15 contests, batting .333 with three extra-base hits and a 6/13 strikeout-to-walk ratio during that span. The recent hot streak has pushed his season batting line up to .280/.402/.380, which is impressive considering he batted just .157 through Wilmington's first 14 games. Dozier will likely split the year between High- and Double-A, which puts him on pace to reach the major leagues around midseason in 2015.

Royals prospect 3B Hunter Dozier was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI Thursday for High-A Wilmington.

Dozier, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2013 draft, got off to a rough start at Wilmington, batting just .157 through his first 12 games. Since then, however, the 22-year-old has been on a tear at the plate, with a 1.029 OPS, two extra-base hits, seven RBI and 6/5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his past 10 contests. Overall, Dozier batted .259/.360/.341 with four doubles, one home run, 13 RBI and a 20/11 strikeout-to-walk ratio in the first month of the season. If Dozier finishes the season in Double-A (as he should), it would put him on pace for a major league debut some time in 2015.

Royals agreed to terms with first-round pick SS Hunter Dozier.

Baseball America's Jim Callis reports that Dozier will receive $2.2 million, which is under the $3,187,800 assigned value of the No. 8 overall pick. This was all part of the Royals' strategy, as they'll now have addition money to attempt to sign Sean Manaea, who they selected No. 34 overall.

Royals selected Stephen F. Austin shortstop Hunter Dozier with the eighth pick in the draft.

This will be the laughing stock pick of the top 10, as most saw Dozier as a second-round talent. The Royals can probably sign him at a discount, which could pay off later if some nice prospects slip, but that'd be a silly motivation when there were legitimate top-10 talents left on the board. Dozier isn't expected to stay at shortstop, but the Royals will likely play him there initially. He has pretty good power, and he'll need it, since he figures to end up at third.
