Dalier Hinojosa has retired from baseball at age 32.
Hinojosa was a star pitcher in his native Cuba for many years and posted a shiny 1.51 ERA in 35 2/3 major league innings with the Red Sox and Phillies between the 2015-2016 seasons, but shoulder troubles derailed his career in 2017. He got a $4.25 million signing bonus from Boston back in 2013. Mar 6 - 10:36 PM

Dalier Hinojosa hasn't pitched yet this spring and is unlikely to do so because of a sore right shoulder.

Hinojosa said Saturday that he feels "better," but he'll continue to rest for now. The right-hander began last season as the Phillies' closer but wound up spending most of the year in the minors and was eventually removed from the 40-man roster.

Phillies sent RHP Dalier Hinojosa outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He's now off the 40-man roster. Hinojosa was a closer candidate early on this season for the Phils but wound up spending much of the year in the minors.

Phillies activated RHP Dalier Hinojosa from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Dalier Hinojosa (hand) is set to begin a rehab assignment Monday with High-A Clearwater.

Hinojosa has been on the disabled list since the end of April with a right hand contusion. He should slide back into a setup role with the Phillies after three or four minor league rehab appearances. The right-hander owns a 1.51 ERA in 35 2/3 career major league innings spread across the last two seasons.

Phillies placed RHP Dalier Hinojosa on the 15-day disabled list with a right hand contusion.

He'll be replaced in the Phillies bullpen for the time being by Colton Murray who was recalled from Triple-A on Saturday. Hinojosa is expected to only need around the minimum time on the disabled list.

Dalier Hinojosa blew his first save chance and took a loss Wednesday after giving up hits to four of the five Reds he faced.

He allowed two runs to end the game in the bottom of the ninth. Hinojosa was set up to close the Phillies' opener, too, but David Hernandez's ugly start in the eighth meant there was no lead left in the ninth. Tonight, Hernandez did his job with a flawless eighth, but Hinojosa failed badly at his. Perhaps Hernandez will get the next save chance now. Alternatively, it could be James Russell if some lefties are due up in the ninth. The Phillies won't write off Hinojosa, but it's not like he was worthy of much confidence in the first place.

Dalier Hinojosa gave up a two-run homer in the eighth to take a blown save and a loss Monday against the Blue Jays.

Darrell Ceciliani hit the homer. Hinojosa is getting talked up as a closer candidate for the Phillies, so this is pretty bad timing for him. He makes more sense as a setup man anyway. He has a 4.50 ERA and a 7/1 K/BB ratio in eight innings this spring.

Dalier Hinojosa is a candidate to close for the Phillies this season.

Hinojosa, 30, was terrific for the Phillies last season after being claimed off waivers, posting a 0.78 ERA and 21/8 K/BB ratio over 23 innings. The success has carried over this spring with a 2.57 ERA and 7/1 K/BB ratio across seven frames. Hinojosa is competing with David Hernandez and Andrew Bailey for the closer role.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Brian Johnson. Hinojosa has spent almost all season at Triple-A Pawtucket, posting a 3.21 ERA with 39 strikeouts over 42 relief innings. He has a good chance of clearing waivers.
