Red Sox signed RHP Dalier Hinojosa to a minor league contract.

Terms of the contract have not yet been disclosed. The 27-year-old right-hander defected from Cuba in January and was given clearance to sign with any MLB team in late July. While he worked as a starter in Cuba, many scouts believe that he'll be used out of the bullpen. He'll likely begin the 2014 season at Triple-A Pawtucket.

According to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com, Cuban right-hander Dalier Hinojosa has been cleared by the U.S. government and is free to sign with an MLB team.

Hinojosa, a former star pitcher for the Cuban national team, defected in January and has been petitioning MLB to become a free agent since. Standing at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, the 27-year-old is described by Sanchez as featuring a low-to-mid 90s fastball to go along with a slider, a curve, a two-seam fastball and a changeup. Because he's older than 23 and has at least three years' experience in Cuba's top league, he will not be subject to the international spending cap. The Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees are among the teams who are believed to have interest.
