Dodgers prospect 2B Alex Guerrero made his regular-season debut on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with a double and home run for Triple-A Albuquerque.
Guerrero, 27, had been sidelined since the end of spring training with an oblique injury, but was finally cleared to return to game action over the weekend. After signing a four-year, $28 million contract over the winter, Guerrero showcased his offensive potential this spring by batting .300/.400/.500 with three extra-base hits and nine RBI in 17 games. He's expected to join the Dodgers at some point this season once the organization is confident he can handle second base defensively in the major leagues. Apr 14 - 1:39 PM

Alex Guerrero is recovered from his oblique injury.

Guerrero strained his oblique on one of the final days of spring training. He'll continue working on his second base defense at Triple-A Albuquerque and should be ready to join the Dodgers early this summer. Los Angeles signed him to a four-year, $28 million free agent contract last year.
Apr 12 - 5:53 PM

Alex Guerrero will be out of action for at least a week after suffering a pulled side muscle Wednesday.

It's not clear how the injury happened. Guerrero was optioned to Triple-A earlier this week, so he'll be playing at Albuquerque once he is healthy. Dee Gordon and Justin Turner are handling second base for the Dodgers.

Dodgers optioned INF Alex Guerrero to Triple-A Albuquerque.

An expected move with Carl Crawford coming off the paternity leave list. The Dodgers want Guerrero to get more comfortable defensively at second base in a less-pressurized setting, but it shouldn't be long before we see him in the majors. Dee Gordon and Justin Turner will attempt to hold things down in the big leagues for now.
Mar 25 - 2:55 PM

Alex Guerrero is on the active roster for the Dodgers season opening series against the Diamondbacks in Australia.

The Cuban infielder will serve as an extra bat on the bench for the two game series, then is expected to report to Triple-A to work on his defense when the team arrives back in the states.
Mar 21 - 11:50 PM

Alex Guerrero only had one at-bat in Friday's Cactus League contest against the Cubs, but made the most of it with a two-run double.

After his two-bagger, the 27-year-old was promptly picked off second base. He's now hitting .286 and has driven in eight runs this spring, and is making a push to begin the season as the Dodgers everyday second baseman.
Mar 14 - 11:17 PM

Alex Guerrero hit a grand slam off Jeff Francis in Wednesday's game against the Reds.

The 27-year-old also struck out in his only other at-bat of the night. Amidst talk that he'll likely begin the season in Triple-A, Guerrero showed why the Dodgers were willing to give him a four-year, $28 million contract this offseason. His defense is the reason he could potentially be left off the Opening Day roster, but if he has a strong spring with the bat he could make it a difficult decision for the Dodgers.
Mar 6 - 12:03 AM

ESPN's Jim Bowden said the consensus in Dodgers camp is Dee Gordon is the "front runner" for the starting second base job.

Bowden also said the feeling is that Alex Guerrero needs to start the year at Triple-A based on how he's performed thus far. Guerrero's defense seems to be the biggest stumbling block in his pursuit of the starting job. Even if Gordon does win the job out of spring, don't expect the Dodgers to bury their $28 million commitment for long.
Mar 1 - 10:02 PM

Alex Guerrero went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Thursday win over the Diamondbacks.

The two base knocks were Guerrero's first in the status after he went 0-for-2 Wednesday. After starting at second base Wednesday, Guerrero was in the DH spot Thursday, with Dee Gordon handling second. The Cuban defector is the favorite to open the year at the keystone for the Dodgers but will have to play well this spring.
Feb 27 - 6:48 PM

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday that he's not opposed to a platoon at second base.

The Dodgers would obviously love to see Alexander Guerrero run away with the second base job during spring training, but Mattingly is willing to consider a platoon if he has trouble adjusting. Chone Figgins, Justin Turner, Dee Gordon, Justin Sellers, Brendan Harris, and Miguel Rojas are among the alternatives.
Feb 19 - 11:36 AM

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly indicated Saturday that the team is happy with the work that Alexander Guerrero has done thus fat at second base.

The 27-year-old Cuban import will have to have a strong spring to earn the starting job at second base, but possesses the highest upside of any candidates vying for the position. Dee Gordon and Chone Figgins will also work out at the position during the spring.
Feb 15 - 1:00 PM

The Dodgers are saying Alexander Guerrero will be part of an open competition in spring training for the second base job, per ESPN Los Angeles' Mark Saxon.

Saxon said the team is so concerned about Guerrero's fielding abilities that they're trying to convince Michael Young to put off retirement and return as the team's stopgap second baseman. Either way, it seems that the 27-year-old will have to earn his playing time with a strong spring. If not, Saxon suggests Guerrero may even find himself in the minor leagues to start the season. The Dodgers signed Guerrero to a four-year, $28 million contract in October.
Jan 29 - 8:55 PM

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti confirmed Wednesday that Alexander Guerrero is the favorite to be the starting second baseman.

Colletti also mentioned Miguel Rojas and Dee Gordon as possibilities, but they'd love for Guerrero to run away with the job after giving him a four-year, $28 million contract. It's worth noting that he's still waiting for a work visa in order to come to the United States. The 26-year-old Cuban defector is a bit of an unknown quantity, but he has enough power potential to be intriguing in mixed fantasy leagues.
Jan 8 - 1:07 PM

At the request of the Dodgers, Alexander Guerrero will not play the rest of the winter season for the Gigantes in the Dominican Winter League.

The 26-year-old had missed some time in November due to a strained left hamstring, and the Dodgers would like him to play it safe and be fully healthy heading into spring training. Guerrero is expected to begin the 2014 season as the Dodgers' starting second baseman, and makes for an intriguing option in the later rounds of mixed league drafts.

Alexander Guerrero (hamstring) will return to the lineup for the Gigantes in the Dominican Winter League on Monday.

Guerrero has been sidelined since November 12 due to a strained left hamstring, and has suffered a few setbacks along the way in his recovery. The 26-year-old Cuban defector is slated to begin the season as the Dodgers starting second baseman.
