Alex Guerrero (calf) took batting practice on Saturday.

Guerrero left Friday night's game with a strained left calf. The Dodgers haven't got Guerrero's MRI results back but the injury doesn't appear to be serious. The 28-year-old has played sparingly since the All-Star break with just 39 second-half at-bats.

Alex Guerrero was removed from Friday's contest against the Diamondbacks with a strained left calf.

He'll head for an MRI on Saturday to determine the full extent of the injury. Fantasy owners should expect him to remain out of the lineup for at least a couple of days.

Alex Guerrero was forced to leave Friday's game against the Diamondbacks after sustaining a hamstring injury while legging out an infield single.

It's unclear at the moment how serious the injury is, he'll presumably head for further tests and the Dodgers should have an update on his status shortly.

Alex Guerrero hit his 11th homer Friday in the win over the Angels.

Guerrero had been struggling mightily in his bit role, and the homer was his first since June 2. He's due additional playing time now with Justin Turner on the DL, so maybe he'll go on another role. Mixed leaguers in need of homers could do worse than rotating him in next week.

Mark Saxon of reports that the Dodgers have yet to ask Alex Guerrero about waiving the opt-out clause in his contract in exchange for money.

Guerrero has a clause in his contract that says he can become a free agent at the end of the season if he's traded. It was reported recently that he might be willing to waive it in exchange for some cash, but apparently the Dodgers have yet to ask him if that could happen. It doesn't mean it won't, of course, as there are still a few days before the deadline.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers have discussed parting with Alex Guerrero in trade talks.

Guerrero has a clause in his contract that says he can become a free agent at the end of the season if he's traded, but the Los Angeles Times reported recently that he would consider waiving that right if it meant more money. Rosenthal says that the Dodgers, not surprisingly, are looking for pitching in return.

Alex Guerrero served as a late-inning defensive sub in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.

Guerrero was a late scratch from the Dodgers' starting lineup on Friday because of stiffness in his back and he hasn't made a plate appearance since. The 28-year-old Cuban utilityman has 10 home runs and 30 RBI in just 167 plate appearances this season.

Alex Guerrero was scratched from the Dodgers starting lineup on Friday due to back stiffness.

He had been in line to make a rare start in left field, but his back acted up during pregame warmups. Kike Hernandez will take his place in left field and bat sixth for the Dodgers.

Alex Guerrero is starting in left field for the Dodgers on Sunday.

He'll hit sixth in the lineup against opposing right-hander Tim Lincecum. Despite the fact that he can't work his way into the starting lineup on a regular basis, the 28-year-old just continues to hit, slashing .282/.311/.597 with 10 homers and 29 RBI in just 124 at-bats on the season.

Alex Guerrero pinch-hit and blasted a two-strike, two-out grand slam in the ninth inning to erase a three-run deficit as the Dodgers took down the Rockies in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

It's hard to come up any bigger than that. Though it is no surprise coming from Guerrero, as he has been hitting all season long. The salami was his 10th homer of the season. The 28-year-old also has 25 RBI and a .296/.327/.684 triple-slash line in 100 plate appearances.

Alex Guerrero slugged a pinch-hit two-run home run in Monday's win against the Braves.

Guerrero pinch-hit for the pitcher against right-handed reliever Nick Masset with a man aboard, socking a pitch to deep left-center, extending the Dodgers' lead to 5-2. Guerrero also homered on Sunday and now stands with eight along with 20 RBI and a .309/.337/.679 batting line.

Alex Guerrero hit a two-run homer in Sunday's big loss to the Padres.

Guerrero smacked his homer off of James Shields in the seventh inning, drawing the Padres to within 10-3. There was no epic comeback in the works, though, and the homer worked merely to pad Guerrero's stats. Not that they need much padding. With a .300/.329/.638 slash line, plus seven homers and 18 RBI in just 80 at-bats, Guerrero has taken advantage of limiting playing time to put up productive numbers.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday that he doesn't have a set starter at third base.

"I don’t like saying that," Mattingly said when asked if it was an open position. "But, yeah, third base this year has been a little bit like the outfield last year, trying to figure out that spot." Mattingly committed to former starter Juan Uribe earlier in the season, but he simply could no longer ignore Alex Guerrero and Justin Turner offering much better production at the plate. Guerrero has started three out of the last four games at the hot corner and is the best bet to receive the lion's share of the playing time there going forward. He boasts a .353/.393/.784 batting line with six homers over 51 at-bats this season.

Alex Guerrero had a double and two RBI in a 3-for-5 effort as the Dodgers easily beat the Marlins on Tuesday.

Guerrero doubled in a run to start a four-run fifth inning, then added an RBI single in what became a five-run sixth inning. The Dodgers have more talented players than positions on the diamond, so it's been tough for them to give Guerrero everyday playing time. He's batting .353/.393/.784 with six home runs and 16 RBI in only 56 plate appearances.
