Julio Urias said he feels "really good" six weeks removed from major left shoulder surgery.
Urias underwent a procedure in late June to repair the anterior capsule in his throwing shoulder and his rehab is likely to last through much of the 2018 campaign. "I’m thinking positively, 100 percent," the young left-hander told reporters on Wednesday. "I’m thinking about coming back and thinking I may be even better if I put in the work. I’m not worried about being the same player, coming back the same way. I’m just being positive and getting my work in." Aug 10 - 11:47 AM

Date:

Julio Urias underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the left anterior capsule in his pitching shoulder.

He also had a debridgement, and the operation went as expected. Urias is looking at a long road back, as his rehab is expected to take 12-14 months. The Dodgers probably won't really be counting on him again until 2019, and even by then he's no guarantee with the sketchy nature of shoulder surgeries.
Jun 27 - 7:14 PM

Julio Urias will undergo surgery to repair the left anterior capsule in his pitching shoulder.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal El Attrache. It's a major procedure which will keep him sidelined for 12-14 months. Urias might not be a factor again until well into the second half next year. Brutal news for the 20-year-old.
Jun 23 - 7:21 PM

Julio Urias will have his ailing left shoulder examined further this weekend in Los Angeles.

An MRI last week showed no structural damage, but Urias' shoulder is still bothering him and Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times writes that "there is a heightened level of concern about the severity" of the injury. That obviously doesn't sound good, but we'll know more about Urias' condition this weekend.
Jun 23 - 8:44 AM

An MRI taken Wednesday on Julio Urias' left shoulder came up negative for structural damage.

Great news. Urias has some inflammation in the shoulder and has been placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he should be fine after a couple weeks of rest. The young left-hander figures to rejoin the Dodgers' starting rotation sometime after the All-Star break, assuming all goes well. He had posted a 3.12 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings (three starts) since his May 21 demotion.
Jun 15 - 10:33 AM

Julio Urias (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo an MRI.

Urias was placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Oklahoma City due to left shoulder discomfort earlier on Wednesday. While the injury is not viewed as a serious one, the Dodgers are putting in their due diligence with the MRI just to make sure there is no structural damage. In three starts since being demoted to the minors on May 21, Urias had posted a 3.12 ERA with 17 strikeouts over 17 1/3 innings.
Jun 14 - 5:27 PM

Julio Urias has been placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Oklahoma City with left shoulder discomfort.

OKC manager Bill Haselman said the issue is not considered serious, but Urias will likely be run through a range of tests and scans. The young southpaw had posted a 3.12 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings (three starts) at Triple-A since his May 21 demotion. Look for an update this weekend.
Jun 14 - 3:46 PM

Dodgers optioned LHP Julio Urias to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Urias gave up 13 runs -- 12 earned -- over his last two starts and holds an 11/14 K/BB ratio over 23 1/3 innings this season. There are bright days ahead for the young southpaw, but the Dodgers are overloaded with rotation options right now so it makes sense to send him back down to iron out his issues.
May 21 - 3:00 PM

Julio Urias' locker at Dodger Stadium on Sunday was vacant.

The Dodgers haven't announced any roster move involving Urias yet, but it appears he's probably been optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The young left-hander has allowed 13 runs -- 12 earned -- over his last two starts and holds an 11/14 K/BB ratio over 23 1/3 innings this season. We should get official word on Urias soon.
May 21 - 1:11 PM

Julio Urias allowed seven runs - six earned - and seven hits with three walks and no strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings in a loss against the Marlins on Saturday.

So much for that sterling 1.06 ERA he just had on May 9. He has been crushed for 12 earned runs, 14 hits and four walks with just one strikeout over his past 6 1/3 innings across two starts. It could be his last start for a while if the team decides he needs more seasoning in the minors or if he is dealing with some type of injury. Either way he shouldn't be touched in most fantasy formats right now.
May 21 - 4:11 AM

Julio Urias surrendered six runs on seven hits over four-plus innings in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Urias took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Pirates in his last start, but Sunday saw no such pyrotechnics. Three runs touched home against him in the first inning via RBI hits by Nolan Arenado and Mark Reynolds, with two more scoring in the fourth inning on a Pat Valaika home run. Through four starts, Urias has posted a 3.43 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 11/11 K/BB ratio. A home date with the Marlins shows next on his schedule.
May 14 - 7:06 PM

Julio Urias allowed just one run, one hit and two walks over 6 1/3 innings while striking out five batters in a no-decision Tuesday against the Pirates.

Urias carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning before yielding a clean single to Andrew McCutchen. He finished with 61 strikes on his 95 pitches before giving way to the bullpen. The Mexican southpaw has allowed just two earned runs across 17 innings in three starts, posting a sparkling 1.06 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.
May 10 - 4:42 AM

Julio Urias allowed four hits and four walks over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Wednesday.

Urias threw just 53 of his 88 pitches for strikes but managed to get through five frames unscathed. The southpaw has allowed just one earned run over 10 2/3 innings in two outings so far this season. He is scheduled to face the Pirates next Tuesday, his first appearance of the season against someone other than the Giants.
May 4 - 3:26 AM

Julio Urias was effective in his 2017 debut, allowing one run over 5 2/3 innings against the Dodgers.

He walked four, though the last of those was intentional. It was the one before, a four-pitch walk to Brandon Belt, that helped cost him his chance at a win. He went on to make an errant pickoff throw, putting Belt on third, and he gave up an RBI single to Christian Arroyo to tie the game at 1-1. Still, Urias gave the Dodgers pretty much what they should have been hoping for, and they went to win in extra innings.
Apr 27 - 8:21 PM

Dodgers recalled LHP Julio Urias from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Urias will join the Dodgers' rotation on Thursday against Giants after registering a 1.93 ERA with 15 strikeouts across 14 innings (three starts) this season for OKC. The young left-hander carries some workload limitations and he still has control issues, but the fantasy upside is tremendous. Get him active.
