Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that injured starter Julio Urias could be ready to pitch in games by the end of July.
Urias is on the long road back from major surgery on his left shoulder last June, so while it's still off in the distance it at least seems as though he's making progress. He'll have a lot to prove when he does return to the mound -- shoulder injuries for pitchers are bad news -- but if the once-top prospect can make a return to form or close to it, it'll be very good news for the Dodgers. Julio Urias said Friday that he will be cleared to begin throwing off of a mound "in the near future".

It's a good sign that the prized left-hander is making progress in his recovery from surgery to repair the anterior capsule in his left shoulder. The Dodgers remain hopeful that he'll be able to contribute at some point during the 2018 regular season. While he's still a tremendous option in keeper and dynasty formats, he likely won't provide enough production to be worth the stash in redraft leagues this year.
May 4 - 7:20 PM

Julio Urias (shoulder) threw from 90 feet on flat ground Thursday.

Urias is coming along slowly but surely in his throwing program as he works his way back from last June's surgery to repair the anterior capsule in his left shoulder. There is no timetable for when he'll throw off a mound or face hitters. The Dodgers hope Urias can contribute to the big league club at some point this season, but that's far from a guarantee.
May 4 - 12:58 PM

Julio Urias (shoulder) has still yet to throw off of a mound.

The Dodgers remain hopeful that he'll be ready for game action at some point in July, but to hit that target he'll have to ramp up activity at some point. The Dodgers will continue to take every possible precaution in his recovery.
Apr 22 - 5:20 PM

Julio Urias (shoulder) recently had his tonsils removed, which has slightly delayed his throwing program.

He should get back to work next week. Urias underwent major shoulder surgery last June and is not expected to be an option for the Dodgers until the second half of the season. He had been playing catch from a distance of 135 feet at last check.
Apr 4 - 1:48 PM

Julio Urias' (shoulder) throwing program has progressed to him long-tossing from 120 feet.

He's expected to lengthen it out to 135 feet soon. Urias is coming along nicely in his rehab from shoulder surgery but is not expected to throw off a mound before the end of spring training. It's possible he'll make it back late in the 2018 season, but the Dodgers surely aren't counting on him until 2019.
Mar 12 - 5:48 PM

Dodgers placed LHP Julio Urias on the 60-day disabled list with a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim J.T. Chargois. Urias isn't expected to be ready to pitch until the second half after having shoulder surgery last June.
Feb 23 - 2:51 PM

Julio Urias said Saturday that he's healthy following the surgery in June to repair the anterior capsule in his left shoulder, and that he expects to begin throwing soon.

Urias is expected to be game ready by the second half of the 2018 regular season, but the Dodgers are going to take every possible precaution along the way with their prized 21-year-old southpaw. He's unlikely to have any impact in redraft leagues this season.
Jan 27 - 2:25 PM

Julio Urias said he feels "really good" six weeks removed from major left shoulder surgery.

Urias underwent a procedure in late June to repair the anterior capsule in his throwing shoulder and his rehab is likely to last through much of the 2018 campaign. "I’m thinking positively, 100 percent," the young left-hander told reporters on Wednesday. "I’m thinking about coming back and thinking I may be even better if I put in the work. I’m not worried about being the same player, coming back the same way. I’m just being positive and getting my work in."

Julio Urias underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the left anterior capsule in his pitching shoulder.

He also had a debridgement, and the operation went as expected. Urias is looking at a long road back, as his rehab is expected to take 12-14 months. The Dodgers probably won't really be counting on him again until 2019, and even by then he's no guarantee with the sketchy nature of shoulder surgeries.

Julio Urias will undergo surgery to repair the left anterior capsule in his pitching shoulder.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal El Attrache. It's a major procedure which will keep him sidelined for 12-14 months. Urias might not be a factor again until well into the second half next year. Brutal news for the 20-year-old.

Julio Urias will have his ailing left shoulder examined further this weekend in Los Angeles.

An MRI last week showed no structural damage, but Urias' shoulder is still bothering him and Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times writes that "there is a heightened level of concern about the severity" of the injury. That obviously doesn't sound good, but we'll know more about Urias' condition this weekend.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Julio Urias' left shoulder came up negative for structural damage.

Great news. Urias has some inflammation in the shoulder and has been placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he should be fine after a couple weeks of rest. The young left-hander figures to rejoin the Dodgers' starting rotation sometime after the All-Star break, assuming all goes well. He had posted a 3.12 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings (three starts) since his May 21 demotion.

Julio Urias (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo an MRI.

Urias was placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Oklahoma City due to left shoulder discomfort earlier on Wednesday. While the injury is not viewed as a serious one, the Dodgers are putting in their due diligence with the MRI just to make sure there is no structural damage. In three starts since being demoted to the minors on May 21, Urias had posted a 3.12 ERA with 17 strikeouts over 17 1/3 innings.

Julio Urias has been placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Oklahoma City with left shoulder discomfort.

OKC manager Bill Haselman said the issue is not considered serious, but Urias will likely be run through a range of tests and scans. The young southpaw had posted a 3.12 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings (three starts) at Triple-A since his May 21 demotion. Look for an update this weekend.
