Making his first start in the leadoff spot, Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer Friday against the Astros.
With Sam Fuld on the bench, it's the first time this year that Semien has batted higher than eighth. He'll probably return to the bottom of the order on Saturday, but it's possible he could get a long look in the two hole if he continues hitting. He has six hits in his last three games, raising his average to .279. Apr 25 - 1:51 AM

Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday in a win over the Angels.

Semien went yard off of Matt Shoemaker in the fourth inning to boost the Athletics' lead to 5-3. The shortstop had been in a bit of a funk, going just 2-for-17 in his previous five games entering Monday.
Apr 21 - 1:12 AM

Marcus Semien singled and hit a solo home run in four trips to the plate in Monday's 8-1 victory versus the Astros.

Semien pushed the Athletics' lead to 5-1 at the time with a fifth-inning solo homer off of Scott Feldman, one of the Athletics' three home runs on Monday night. The young shortstop is batting .323 (10-for-31) to start the season.
Apr 13 - 11:19 PM

Marcus Semien went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in a losing effort against the Rangers on Thursday afternoon.

Semien’s run-scoring knock in the eighth inning plated the A’s lone run on the afternoon, after getting shut down by Rangers starter Nick Martinez for the first seven frames. The 24-year-old shortstop is off to a nice start with his new club, slashing .308/.357/.385 with three RBI in his first four games.
Apr 9 - 6:11 PM

Marcus Semien went 0-for-1 in Wednesday's 4-1 Cactus League victory over the Angels.

The Athletics will break camp and head back to California to wrap up spring training with three exhibition games against the Giants. Semien had a white-hot start to the spring, but leaves Arizona with only one hit in his last four games. Overall, he's batting .281 (16-for-57).
Apr 1 - 5:53 PM

Marcus Semien went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk, and a run scored in the Athletics' 10-5 loss to the Dodgers on Monday.

Semien is hitting .333 (9-for-27) midway through the spring. He had been held hitless in his previous three spring games, but the Athletics have to like what they've seen from the 24-year-old as he prepares to take over at shortstop on an everyday basis.
Mar 16 - 7:19 PM

Marcus Semien went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk in Monday's loss to the Rangers.

Semien is a lusty 7-for-14 with two home runs and seven RBI so far in the Cactus League. The Athletics couldn't have asked for a better start from their new starting shortstop.
Mar 9 - 7:17 PM

Marcus Semien stayed hot Wednesday, going 2-for-2 with a walk and three RBI in a Cactus League win over the Giants.

Semien is now 5-for-5 with a walk and six RBI in six plate appearances this spring. The 24-year-old shortstop was one of the focal points for the Athletics in the Jeff Samardzija trade, and he's showing why early in camp. Semien is penciled in as the Athletics' starting shortstop and he should be on AL-only fantasy radars -- if not as a flier in deep mixed leagues -- this draft season.
Mar 4 - 6:58 PM

Marcus Semien homered twice and drove in four runs in Tuesday's Cactus League win over the Giants.

Not a bad way to kick off his Oakland career. Semien took World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner deep to center field in the first inning, singled in a run in the second and again went deep to center field in the fifth. He also tried to steal a base but was thrown out. Some scouts question whether Semien will be able to hit at the big league level, but there's no doubt he possesses an intriguing power/speed combo.
Mar 3 - 6:51 PM

Athletics acquired INF Marcus Semien, C Josh Phegley, RHP Chris Bassitt, 1B Rangel Ravelo from the White Sox for RHP Jeff Samardzija and RHP Michael Ynoa.

Semien is expected to take over as the A's starting shortstop with Jed Lowrie departing as a free agent. Semien has batted just .240/.293/.380 in 326 career plate appearances at the major league level, but he put up some very good minor league numbers. The 25-year-old boasts that rare combination of power and speed, and will be worth a flier in some mixed fantasy leagues for 2015.

Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports that the Athletics would receive Marcus Semien and prospects in a trade of Jeff Samardzija.

It makes sense, as the A's could plug Semien into their vacancy at shortstop, though he seems unlikely to be the headliner in the deal. Semien has batted just .240/.293/.380 in 326 plate appearances at the major league level but was a .272/.374/.465 hitter in the minors, offering some pop and speed. The White Sox are looking like the favorites to land Samardzija at the moment, with Bob Nightengale of USA Today reporting earlier Monday that they have engaged in "serious talks" with the A's.

According to Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago, the White Sox are set to allow Marcus Semien, Micah Johnson and Carlos Sanchez to compete for the team's starting second base job in 2015.

With extraordinary depth at the position, Padilla speculates that the organization could look to deal one of the trio in order to upgrade the team elsewhere. Semien has the most big league experience of the three, but hit just .234/.300/.372 with six homers and 28 RBI in 64 games at the big league level. Fantasy owners will be hoping that Johnson winds up with the gig, as his game-changing speed could be incredibly valuable.

Semien hit the two-run shot, his sixth of the year, in the third inning before driving in another run with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth. The 24-year-old had some big games this year but finished hitting .234/.300/.372.

Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 including a three-run home run in a win over the Rays on Sunday.

Semien delivered the big blow in the White Sox' four-run second inning, taking Rays starter Nate Karns deep for a three-run shot. He also singled and scored in the sixth inning. Semien has five home runs on the year but owns just a .234/.298/.364 line on the year.

Marcus Semien homered for the White Sox's lone run in Thursday's win over the A's.

Semien took Scott Kazmir deep in the sixth for his fourth homer of the year. He's currently playing less than Carlos Sanchez and hitting a whole lot lower in the lineup when he does play, but he is the one with the brighter future in Chicago. His fantasy value is limited to AL-only leagues at the moment.
