Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 and cracked a two-run homer during a loss to the Royals on Wednesday.
His shot off starter Danny Duffy gave the Athletics a short-lived lead in the third inning. Semien spent almost the entire first half of the season on the disabled list with a broken wrist. He struggled when first returning in early July but has been good enough to be semi-useful in fantasy leagues of late. He has a .254 batting average with five homers and 20 RBI in 47 games overall. He is running more this year and has seven stolen bases without being caught. His career high is 11 steals in 155 games back in 2015. Aug 16 - 8:06 PM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 with a grand slam Monday as the A's topped the Giants 8-5.

Semien hit his second career slam off George Kontos in the sixth inning. He's batting .262 with four homers and 14 RBI in 21 games since returning from a fractured wrist. He's still a fringy option in mixed leagues, but that he's 7-for-7 stealing bases (in 32 games) makes him more interesting than he'd otherwise be. He had just 10 steals in 159 games last year.
Aug 1 - 1:55 AM

Marcus Semien cranked a two-run home run in a loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

His fifth-inning johnson off starter Marco Estrada stood as the only scoring in the ballgame until the bottom of the ninth when closer Santiago Casilla came unglued to blow the game. The homer was Semien's only hit of the ballgame, although he did draw a walk. He owns a lowly .208 batting average with three homers, 10 RBI and seven stolen bases in 27 games. He missed three months of the season with a fractured wrist.
Jul 26 - 10:34 PM

Marcus Semien finished 4-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base in Friday’s loss to the Mets.

All four hits were singles. He knocked in runs in the fifth and eighth innings. Coming into Friday’s game, Semien was just 5-for-38 (.132) through his first 10 games since coming off the disabled list. He’s obviously capable of better moving forward
Jul 21 - 11:18 PM

The Athletics discussed a multi-year deal with Marcus Semien this offseason.

They also had brief discussions with Khris Davis. Per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the A's were mulling a five-year deal with Semien and though nothing came of it, the shortstop would be open to revisiting those talks. "Every player wants to make sure they’re doing what’s right for them and their family," he said. "But ever since I broke my wrist, nothing’s happening and I’m hitting below .200, so I don’t know. We haven’t talked since the spring." Semien is under contract through 2020 so obviously there's no sense of urgency here.
Jul 20 - 10:36 PM

Marcus Semien went 0-for-4 with a strikeout as the Athletics were shut out by the Mariners on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.

Semien hit safely in each of his first three games after returning from the disabled list, but the entire A's offense was anemic on Sunday, generating just two total hits. Semien heads into the break slashing just .173/.328/.288 with one homer and four RBI in 64 plate appearances.
Jul 9 - 7:39 PM

Marcus Semien finished 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Friday's 7-2 setback in Seattle.

Semien returned to the lineup Thursday after missing nearly three months due to a fractured right wrist. He has hit safely in each of the games, although he has three strikeouts over eight at-bats. Give him a while to knock off the rust and get back into the groove before plugging him back into the active fantasy lineup.
Jul 8 - 3:54 AM

Athletics activated SS Marcus Semien from the 60-day disabled list.

Semien will return to the A's starting lineup on Thursday night in Seattle after missing nearly three months with a fractured right wrist. He went 10-for-31 (.323) on his eight-game minor league rehab assignment between High-A Stockton and Triple-A Nashville.
Jul 6 - 3:57 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) is on track to be activated from the disabled list for the Athletics' series in Seattle that begins Thursday.

Semien has batted .364/.320/.636 over six rehab games and played nine innings for Triple-A Nashville on Saturday for the first time during his rehab assignment. The shortstop has been on the shelf since mid-April with a fractured right wrist.
Jul 2 - 1:50 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Stockton on Friday.

Working his way back from surgery to repair a fractured right wrist, Semien has been slowly but surely upping his workouts this month and is nearly ready to test things out in game action. It's unclear how many rehab games he'll require, but it figures to be more than a handful given that he's been sidelined since mid-April.
Jun 19 - 6:39 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) will take batting practice on Friday.

He'll also take grounders at shortstop. The A's are hoping to have Semien back early next month. The 26-year-old underwent wrist surgery on April 18.
Jun 15 - 6:52 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) hit off a tee with a game bat for the first time Wednesday.

Semien had been using lighter bats with his tee work over the last few days and has now taken another step in his rehabilitation from April wrist surgery. The hope is he can return to the Athletics' active roster around early-to-mid July.
Jun 7 - 2:04 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) isn't expected to return before the end of June.

The initial hope had been that Semien would be ready for activation when he's first eligible in mid-June, but that's not happening. Semien began hitting off a tee Monday and has been throwing, as well, as he works his way back from right wrist surgery.
Jun 5 - 7:39 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) has progressed to throwing over the top from a distance of 75 feet as he continues to recover from wrist surgery.

He has been alternating between hitting and throwing every other day. So far, things have gone smoothly and his recovery has remained on schedule. He's hopeful to rejoin the A's lineup as soon as his 60-days are up in mid-June.
Jun 2 - 7:48 PM

Marcus Semien played catch Monday for the first time since undergoing right wrist surgery.

It's a big step for the 26-year-old shortstop, who is aiming to return from the 60-day disabled list around the middle of June. Semien still has some hurdles to clear, but his rehab has gone smoothly so far.
