Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.
Semien connected for a solo dinger off Rangers starter Nick Martinez in the fifth inning, his 21st big fly of the year. That's easily a personal best for the 25-year-old, who will also set a new high for RBI in a season this year. Overall, Semien is hitting .236/.303/.460 with 49 RBI, 49 runs scored and nine steals. Marcus Semien is not in the Athletics' lineup Friday.

He's just getting a breather. Danny Valencia is also sitting out, as the A's are going with Arismendy Alcantara at shortstop, Yonder Alonso at first base, Khris Davis in the designated hitter spot, Jake Smolinski in center field and Coco Crisp in left.

Marcus Semien pounded his 19th home run of the season in a loss to the Astros on Friday.

He ended the night 1-for-3 with a walk. Semien is on pace to hit well over 30 home runs. He has 19 home runs in 299 at-bats after setting a career high with 15 home runs in 601 at-bats last year.
Jul 9 - 12:05 AM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin acknowledged that Marcus Semien has been playing through a right shoulder injury.

The 25-year-old has yet to miss a game this year and Melvin doesn't plan on resting him until the All-Star break. It's come with a low batting average and a high strikeout rate but Semien's 18 home runs are tied for second-most among big league shortstops.
Jul 7 - 7:17 PM

Marcus Semien delivered a three-run homer and an RBI double against the Giants on Monday.

Semien is up to 15 homers this year. Unfortunately, he hasn't been overly helpful elsewhere, and even with the homers, he has a modest 33 runs scored and 39 RBI while often hitting low in the order. If he can bring his average up some and convince the A's to hit him second or third, he'd have quite a bit more fantasy value.
Jun 28 - 1:14 AM

Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Angels.

Semien was starter Kendall Graveman's best friend on Thursday, mashing a three-run homer in the second inning to jump the A's to a 3-0 advantage. He has six RBI over his last three games. With 13 home runs on the season, he is now just two away from matching the career-best 15 he socked in 2015.
Jun 24 - 1:19 AM

Marcus Semien went 3-for-4 with a two-run triple and three total RBI in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.

Semien's RBI single in the sixth inning tied the game at 2-2. He would come up again an inning later, this time with the A's holding a 3-2 lead. Semien added to that with a two-run triple. For the season as a whole, he is slashing .238/.305/.430 with 12 homers, 31 RBI and five steals over 70 games played.
Jun 22 - 1:56 AM

Marcus Semien will bat second Monday versus the Rangers.

This will be his third start out of the No. 2 spot this season, but it makes sense with lefty Cesar Ramos on the hill for Texas. Semien owns a .961 OPS vs. southpaws this season compared to a .689 OPS against right-handers. He's an appealing DFS option on Monday.
Jun 13 - 6:02 PM

Marcus Semien socked a solo homer and drew a walk in Friday’s loss to the Astros.

There wasn’t much to crow about for the Athletics on this night. They were down 12-0 when Semien finally got them on the board in the seventh. He’s up to 11 home runs overall, but this was his first since May 16.
Jun 4 - 12:24 AM

Marcus Semien hit his 10th homer of the year Monday against the Rangers.

Semien is already two-thirds of the way to last year's homer total. On the other hand, he's managed just one double in his 124 at-bats to date. Both the 10 homers and one double are pretty fluky totals and many of his well-hit balls going forward will be two-baggers instead of four-baggers. It also hurts his fantasy value that he hits at the bottom of one of the league's weakest lineups.
May 17 - 2:48 AM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-3 with a solo homer Friday against the Rays.

The A’s No. 9 hitter now has nine home runs on the year. That leads AL shortstops. Of course, the Rockies’ Trevor Story leads all MLB shortstops with 11 home runs. Semien is batting just .217/.300/.461 this season and struggles against right-handed pitching, but his power is difficult to ignore in fantasy leagues.
May 14 - 1:02 AM

Marcus Semien clobbered his eighth home run of the season on Saturday as the Athletics dispatched of the Orioles 8-4 in Baltimore.

His two-run shot in the eighth inning capped off the scoring in the game for the Athletics. Semien also singled in the contest, finishing the day 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and three RBI. While he's hitting just .221 on the season, he has provided exceptional power at the bottom of the A's lineup with eight long balls and 15 RBI.
May 7 - 4:28 PM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners.

Semien connected for a solo home run off Mariners starter Felix Hernandez in the third inning. It was his seventh homer of the young season. The 25-year-old shortstop is already almost halfway home to matching his career-best 16 homers from 2015. Through his first 91 at-bats, he is slashing .209/.284/.451. Semien is never going to be confused with Tony Gwynn in terms of the average, but he should be able to raise that mark closer to his career number of .246 as the season progresses.
May 4 - 7:01 PM

Marcus Semien smacked a two-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Semien's two-run blast off of Mike Pelfrey in the seventh inning essentially put the game out of reach. It was his fifth home run of the season, which is tops among all American League shortstops in the early going, although Semien is batting only .197/.270/.439 overall.
Apr 26 - 10:08 PM

Marcus Semien went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Angels.

Semien's homer was the only extra-base hit the A's managed on the afternoon. He connected for the solo blast off Angels reliever Fernando Salas in the bottom of the eighth inning. That was his fourth homer of the season and gave him five total RBI for the young campaign. Semien was a defensive mess last year (35 errors), but he also hit 15 home runs and has the power to surpass that mark in 2016 assuming he can stay in the lineup.
