Athletics transferred SS Marcus Semien from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Semien underwent surgery Tuesday for a fractured scaphoid bone at the base of his right hand and will be out for at least two months. Adam Rosales has taken over as the A's primary shortstop. Chad Pinder is also in the mix for playing time at short in Oakland, and top prospect is waiting in the wings at Triple-A Nashville.
Apr 20 - 3:10 PM

Marcus Semien underwent right wrist surgery as scheduled on Tuesday.

He had a screw inserted into the fractured scaphoid bone at the base of his right hand. Semien will be shut down for at least six weeks and is likely going to miss at least two months of games. Adam Rosales has been filling in at shortstop for Oakland and Chad Pinder is also an option there. This situation could rush the arrival of top prospect Franklin Barreto.

Marcus Semien will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a fracture of the scaphoid bone in his right wrist.

Semien will have a screw inserted into his wrist and will be re-evaluated in six weeks, at which point a clearer timetable for his return will be known. The shortstop actually suffered the injury late in spring training, but obviously he had felt it was something he could play through. Adam Rosales has started the last three games at shortstop for the A's, but Chad Pinder is also around and could get a look. Top prospect Franklin Barreto is off to a .310/.375/.524 start at Triple-A Nashville and might eventually be an option.
Apr 17 - 6:28 PM

Marcus Semien will undergo a CT scan Monday on his right wrist.

The hope is Semien just has a bruise, but it's possible there's a small fracture of some sort. The shortstop has been battling discomfort in his right wrist since spring training and he was off to a rough start at the plate, with a .171 batting average and zero home runs in 11 regular-season games. Adam Rosales is starting at short for Oakland on Sunday.
Apr 16 - 1:56 PM

Athletics placed SS Marcus Semien on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to March 15, with a right wrist contusion.

Semien has been battling a bone bruise on his wrist since the end of spring training and the A's have finally decided to give him some extended rest. There would seem to be a good chance that he'll be ready for activation when his 10 days are up. Chad Pinder has replaced him on the roster and he could see most of the starts at shortstop, although Adam Rosales might also be in the mix.
Apr 16 - 12:00 PM

Marcus Semien’s MRI revealed a bone contusion on his right wrist.

Semien will go for a CT scan on Monday. It’s an injury Semien has been dealing with since the end of spring training and might explain his sluggish start (.171 AVG with no homers in 35 at-bats). While the initial diagnosis looks good, there’s no guarantee Semien will avoid the disabled list. Adam Rosales started in his place Saturday against Houston.
Apr 15 - 9:36 PM

Marcus Semien underwent an MRI on Saturday on his sore right wrist.

It's an issue that has been bothering Semien for awhile, though he has been able to play through it. He had been feeling it on swings, but it started to affect him while throwing during Friday's game. Expect an update on his status after the A's get the results of that MRI.
Apr 15 - 3:46 PM

Marcus Semien is not in the Athletics' starting lineup on Saturday.

Just a routine day off for the A's shortstop. Adam Rosales will take his place and bat ninth for the Athletics against Lance McCullers and the Astros on Saturday.
Apr 15 - 1:13 PM

Marcus Semien went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and two steals Saturday against the Rangers.

Perhaps most notable about his night isn't even mentioned in that line -- that he batted leadoff and set the table with two walks as well. Given Rajai Davis' struggles, A's manager Bob Melvin may turn to Semien more often to hit atop the lineup, a good thing for his fantasy numbers. The 26-year-old now has three steals on the year and has walked (6) more times than he's struck out (5) thus far.
Apr 8 - 11:15 PM

Marcus Semien is starting at shortstop and batting ninth for the Athletics in Friday's game against the Rangers.

Semien has batted ninth each of the four times the A's have faced a righty and hit second the one time they faced a lefty. He has a career .674 OPS versus righties and .823 versus lefties.
Apr 7 - 4:05 PM

Marcus Semien was scratched from the Athletics' Cactus League starting lineup on Saturday due to illness.

Richie Martin will start in his place against the Reds. Expect Semien to return to game action in a day or two.
Mar 25 - 1:09 PM

Marcus Semien went 3-for-3 with four RBI as the Athletics defeated the Diamondbacks 21-13 on Tuesday.

Yes, that looks like a football score. And the agile Semien would probably make for a decent slot receiver. He opened the scoring for the A's with an RBI single in the top of the second before adding a two-run double in the top of the third and another RBI single in the top of the fifth. Semien carries high-level fantasy potential into the 2017 season after registering 27 homers, 75 RBI, and 10 stolen bases in 159 games last year as Oakland's starting shortstop.
Mar 7 - 7:11 PM

Marcus Semien launched a two-run homer Tuesday as the Athletics topped the Indians 5-4 in Cactus League play.

It was a shot to right off Mike Clevinger in the bottom of the first inning. Semien carries significant fantasy potential into the 2017 season after tallying 27 homers, 75 RBI, and 10 stolen bases in 159 games last year as Oakland's starting shortstop. This will be his age-26 campaign.
Feb 28 - 6:10 PM

Marcus Semien went 4-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Mariners on Saturday.

Two of the hits were doubles, including one of the ground-rule variety that drove in a run in the eighth inning. The four hits boosted his batting average by five points to .238/.300/.436 with 27 home runs and 74 RBI. He's chipped in 10 steals as well.
