Marcus Semien (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Stockton on Friday.
Working his way back from surgery to repair a fractured right wrist, Semien has been slowly but surely upping his workouts this month and is nearly ready to test things out in game action. It's unclear how many rehab games he'll require, but it figures to be more than a handful given that he's been sidelined since mid-April. Jun 19 - 6:39 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) hit off a tee with a game bat for the first time Wednesday.

Semien had been using lighter bats with his tee work over the last few days and has now taken another step in his rehabilitation from April wrist surgery. The hope is he can return to the Athletics' active roster around early-to-mid July.
Jun 7 - 2:04 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) isn't expected to return before the end of June.

The initial hope had been that Semien would be ready for activation when he's first eligible in mid-June, but that's not happening. Semien began hitting off a tee Monday and has been throwing, as well, as he works his way back from right wrist surgery.
Jun 5 - 7:39 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) has progressed to throwing over the top from a distance of 75 feet as he continues to recover from wrist surgery.

He has been alternating between hitting and throwing every other day. So far, things have gone smoothly and his recovery has remained on schedule. He's hopeful to rejoin the A's lineup as soon as his 60-days are up in mid-June.
Jun 2 - 7:48 PM

Marcus Semien played catch Monday for the first time since undergoing right wrist surgery.

It's a big step for the 26-year-old shortstop, who is aiming to return from the 60-day disabled list around the middle of June. Semien still has some hurdles to clear, but his rehab has gone smoothly so far.
May 30 - 4:13 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) had the cast removed from his right hand on Friday.

He's currently right where he should be in his recovery and remains hopeful that he'll be able to rejoin the A's as soon as his 60-days are up in June. The plan now is to strengthen his wrist for several days before slowly easing him into baseball activities.
May 19 - 7:16 PM

Marcus Semien (wrist) expects to have his cast removed in five days.

After that, his right wrist will be put in a splint. Semien's surgery went well and he's expected to be reevaluated in 4-6 weeks. Adam Rosales has been filling in at shortstop with Semien on the shelf.
Apr 20 - 7:37 PM

Athletics transferred SS Marcus Semien from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Semien underwent surgery Tuesday for a fractured scaphoid bone at the base of his right hand and will be out for at least two months. Adam Rosales has taken over as the A's primary shortstop. Chad Pinder is also in the mix for playing time at short in Oakland, and top prospect is waiting in the wings at Triple-A Nashville.
Apr 20 - 3:10 PM

Marcus Semien underwent right wrist surgery as scheduled on Tuesday.

He had a screw inserted into the fractured scaphoid bone at the base of his right hand. Semien will be shut down for at least six weeks and is likely going to miss at least two months of games. Adam Rosales has been filling in at shortstop for Oakland and Chad Pinder is also an option there. This situation could rush the arrival of top prospect Franklin Barreto.
Apr 19 - 12:20 AM

Marcus Semien will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a fracture of the scaphoid bone in his right wrist.

Semien will have a screw inserted into his wrist and will be re-evaluated in six weeks, at which point a clearer timetable for his return will be known. The shortstop actually suffered the injury late in spring training, but obviously he had felt it was something he could play through. Adam Rosales has started the last three games at shortstop for the A's, but Chad Pinder is also around and could get a look. Top prospect Franklin Barreto is off to a .310/.375/.524 start at Triple-A Nashville and might eventually be an option.
Apr 17 - 6:28 PM

Marcus Semien will undergo a CT scan Monday on his right wrist.

The hope is Semien just has a bruise, but it's possible there's a small fracture of some sort. The shortstop has been battling discomfort in his right wrist since spring training and he was off to a rough start at the plate, with a .171 batting average and zero home runs in 11 regular-season games. Adam Rosales is starting at short for Oakland on Sunday.
Apr 16 - 1:56 PM

Athletics placed SS Marcus Semien on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to March 15, with a right wrist contusion.

Semien has been battling a bone bruise on his wrist since the end of spring training and the A's have finally decided to give him some extended rest. There would seem to be a good chance that he'll be ready for activation when his 10 days are up. Chad Pinder has replaced him on the roster and he could see most of the starts at shortstop, although Adam Rosales might also be in the mix.
Apr 16 - 12:00 PM

Marcus Semien’s MRI revealed a bone contusion on his right wrist.

Semien will go for a CT scan on Monday. It’s an injury Semien has been dealing with since the end of spring training and might explain his sluggish start (.171 AVG with no homers in 35 at-bats). While the initial diagnosis looks good, there’s no guarantee Semien will avoid the disabled list. Adam Rosales started in his place Saturday against Houston.
Apr 15 - 9:36 PM

Marcus Semien underwent an MRI on Saturday on his sore right wrist.

It's an issue that has been bothering Semien for awhile, though he has been able to play through it. He had been feeling it on swings, but it started to affect him while throwing during Friday's game. Expect an update on his status after the A's get the results of that MRI.
