Marcus Semien bashed a two-run homer and drove in three runs overall in a win over the Blue Jays.
Semien's blast was a two-run shot off of Danny Barnes in the fifth inning that upped the A's lead to 5-0. He also drove in a run on a sac fly, with the only negative being that he was thrown out stealing for the second time this season. On the year, Semien has a .276/.323/.404 line with five homers, 23 RBI and four steals over 47 games. May 20 - 4:40 PM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 and cracked a two-run homer during Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox.

He brought the Athletics within a run by going yard off ace Chris Sale with Chad Pinder aboard in the fifth inning. The shortstop and lead-off batter has been a productive fantasy hitter so far this year, with a .276 batting average, four homers, 20 RBI, 31 runs and three stolen bases through 43 games.
May 16 - 11:25 PM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in Friday’s 10-5 victory over the Yankees.

Semien blew things open with a bases-clearing double in the ninth inning. He also drove in a run with a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning. This was his second four-RBI game of the season, though he hasn’t made much noise in that area of late. He had just one RBI over his previous 14 games. Semien has batted leadoff a bunch during that time, but he’s also not lofting the ball nearly as often this season as he did last year.
May 11 - 11:02 PM

Marcus Semien finished 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 setback against the Astros.

Semien brought his hitting shoes to the ballpark Tuesday, collecting one-third of the team's hits while accounting for the only stolen base. He is slashing a respectable .270/.325/.388 overall on the season and is a solid fantasy option in most AL-only formats since he spends his time atop the lineup seeing plenty of at-bats.
May 9 - 2:43 AM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-6 and hit a tiebreaking homer in the ninth inning Monday in Oakland's 9-4 win in Texas.

It was a 3-3 tie when Semien took Kevin Jepsen deep to begin the ninth. Obviously, the A's added on from there, making it of little concern that the Rangers got a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Semien has three homers, 13 RBI and 20 runs scored in 23 games this year. Batting at the top of the order has enhanced his fantasy value.
Apr 24 - 12:13 AM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in a win over the Red Sox on Sunday.

Semien now somewhat quietly is up to fourth in the American League in runs scored with 18 following Sunday's two-run affair. He's also been delivering at the dish, with multi-hit games in four of his last seven outings. The shortstop, who was off to a good start last year as well before missing three months with a broken right wrist, is hitting .266/.327/.394 through the first 22 games this year.
Apr 22 - 8:01 PM

Marcus Semien finished Saturday's 3-0 victory against the Red Sox with a solo home run, a walk and three runs scored.

Semien has been a nice table-setter at the top of the Oakland lineup, scoring 11 runs over the past nine outings. He also stole a base for the second time in three games to get things started, providing all of the runs in Saturday's special game for the A's. He has hit safely in 14 of the past 17 contests.
Apr 22 - 12:22 AM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's win over the Mariners.

Semien picked up a pair of singles in the low-scoring affair, scoring on Jed Lowrie's two-run homer in the first inning. It's been a quiet start to the year for the dynamic shortstop, but he's been coming on lately. Despite only one homer and no steals, Semien is now hitting .261/.316/.377 through Sunday.
Apr 15 - 6:59 PM

Marcus Semien ended up 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, three runs scored and four RBI from the leadoff spot in Wednesday's road rout of the Dodgers.

Semien managed just one RBI over his first six games, but he has driven in eight runs over the past seven. He has also hit safely in nine consecutive outings. He'll look to make it a 10-game hitting streak in Friday's game against left-hander Ariel Miranda. He has never faced Miranda, and he hit just .224 (22-for-98) with five doubles, three homers, 11 RBI and 25 strikeouts against southpaws in 2017.
Apr 12 - 2:31 AM

Marcus Semien hit a game-winning, walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning Thursday to give the A's a 6-5 win over the Angels.

The late-game heroics were just the icing on top of a strong Opening Day performance from Semien, who finished 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored. The game-winner was actually the least impressive of the three hits, basically a soft fly ball to center field that fell in because the Angels had pulled an outfielder in for an extra infielder with one out and a runner on third. A broken wrist derailed what was trending to be a career year for Semien in 2017, so now healthy it could be a big one again this year.
Mar 29 - 10:49 PM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a homer on Thursday in a loss to the Rockies in the Cactus League.

Semien's homer was the first of the spring, and it came in the fifth inning off of Chad Bettis. He also doubled off of Bettis, and is hitting .313 for his efforts in Arizona. If you're not willing to pay the high draft picks/auction prices for the "elite" shortstops, Semien can be a cheap -- and potentially productive -- option later in fantasy drafts.
Mar 22 - 7:21 PM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI in a 7-3 victory over the Angels in the Cactus League on Thursday.

Semien is off to a strong start in the Cactus League, and his batting average is now at .500 in Arizona. Injuries limited the shortstop to just 85 games last year, but the shortstop has shown quality power -- particularly for the position he plays -- and also will give you 10-to-12 steals without being caught much. You can do better than this, but because of the power/speed combo, you can certainly do a lot worse.
Mar 8 - 5:59 PM

Athletics and SS Marcus Semien avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.125 million contract.

He was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. Semien played in just 85 games last season due to injury.
Jan 12 - 2:25 PM

Marcus Semien finished 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's game at Texas.

Semien reached double-digit homers on the penultimate day of the regular season after belting 27 bombs in 2016. His season was derailed by a fractured wrist, but he actually ended up coming back and posting a career-best .325 on-base percentage and .717 OPS, slightly lower than the .735 he posted in his breakout campaign last season.

Marcus Semien finished 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in the Athletics' defeat of the Tigers on Wednesday.

Semien hit an RBI double in the top of the third inning and a two-run homer in the top of the seventh, providing all of the meaningful offense for the A's in their eventual 3-2 victory at Comerica Park. It's been somewhat of a lost season for Semien, who missed chunks of April, June, and July with a fractured right wrist. He's batting .253/.335/.390 with seven home runs and 35 RBI in 75 games.
