Phil Gosselin had himself a day against the A's on Wednesday, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and five RBI.

Gosselin's biggest hit of the contest came in the fifth inning. In that frame, he stepped up with the bases loaded and cleared them with a three-run triple. He would tack on a two-run double an inning later. Between the Braves and Diamondbacks last season, the 27-year-old second baseman slashed .311/.373/.500 with three homers and 15 RBI across 106 at-bats. He should see his fair share of playing time in 2016, though Jean Segura, Nick Ahmed and Chris Owings also figure to draw at-bats in the logjam at second base.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Wednesday that Phil Gosselin is in the running for the club's starting second base job.

But it's a crowded race, with Jean Segura, Nick Ahmed, and Chris Owings all expected to draw starts at the position this spring in Cactus League play. Gosselin impressed Hale last year after being acquired from the Braves in the Bronson Arroyo trade, slashing .303/.382/.545 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 24 games. His minor league numbers suggest he was playing way over his head. A utility role is more fitting.

Phil Gosselin went 2-for-4 and clubbed a three-run homer Monday versus the Giants.

Gosselin has started five games since his Aug. 31 addition to the Diamondbacks roster and gone 7-for-23 with two homers, two doubles and eight RBI. He'll continue to steal time away from Chris Owings and Jake Lamb this month.

Phil Gosselin doubled in a run and launched a three-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Rockies.

Gosselin was hitless in his Diamondbacks debut Monday, but he made up for it and then some with a big showing in his second game with the Snakes. His blast off Miguel Castro in the seventh inning went an estimated 441 feet. It looks like Gosselin could get a decent look at second base this month, making him worth a look in NL-only formats.

Diamondbacks transferred INF Phil Gosselin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for starter Zack Godley, who will make his major league debut on Thursday against the Brewers. Gosselin underwent surgery in mid-May to repair an avulsion fracture in his left thumb and remains sidelined indefinitely. He was acquired from the Braves in last month's Bronson Arroyo trade.

Diamondbacks acquired INF Phil Gosselin from the Braves for RHPs Bronson Arroyo and Touki Toussaint.

Gosselin underwent surgery in mid-May for an avulsion fracture in his left thumb and still has about a month of rehab left. The 26-year-old utility infielder owns a .281/.321/.345 career batting line in 70 games at the major league level and might not have a spot on the Diamondbacks' active roster when his health returns. This trade was all about dumping Bronson Arroyo's salary.

Braves placed INF Phil Gosselin on the 15-day disabled list with an avulsion fracture in his left thumb.

He'll undergo surgery on Wednesday and be sidelined 6-8 weeks. Adonis Garcia has taken Gosselin's spot on the roster.

Phil Gosselin will be placed on the 15-day disabled list before Tuesday's game against the Rays.

Gosselin suffered a left thumb sprain when he landed awkwardly while trying to field a grounder in Sunday's series finale at Marlins Park. The exact severity of the injury is unknown. An update is expected Monday night. Pedro Ciriaco and Alberto Callaspo will hold down the hot corner for Atlanta until Chris Johnson (hand) returns.

Phil Gosselin had a go-ahead two-run single in a 5-3 win over the Mets on Friday night.

It was Gosselin's lone hit in five at-bats Friday, but he delivered at the right time with a bases-loaded single off Rafael Montero with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. He also stole a base in the frame. While Gosselin made the start at second base Friday, Jace Peterson appears to be the preferred option at the position. Gosselin is not going to be fantasy relevant on the bench.

Phil Gosselin went 0-for-4 while seeing time in left field, at third base and at first base in Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Gosselin is known as a second baseman, but he's spent most of the spring playing third, short and the outfield as he attempts to make the Braves as a utilityman. He's hitting .216 with no extra-base hits in 37 at-bats, so that's not helping.

Phil Gosselin went 3-for-4 and scored a run in Wednesday's victory against the Nationals.

Gosselin was the only Brave to register multiple hits on the evening. He has multiple hits in three out of his last four ballgames, in fact, and is slashing a respectable .309/.343/.381 in 103 plate appearances this season -- certainly an upgrade over Dan Uggla.
