Daniel Murphy is starting at third base and Dilson Herrera is starting at second base for the Mets Wednesday.
It's great news for Herrera, who should play regularly now down the stretch with Murphy sliding over to fill the spot vacated by the injured David Wright (shoulder). Herrera has batted .243/.317/.459 with two homers and seven RBI over 10 games for the Mets since his promotion late last month and is worth using in deeper leagues. Sep 10 - 3:26 PM

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday that Dilson Herrera could see a game at shortstop.

It's an option, especially with Daniel Murphy (calf) close to coming off the disabled list. Still, Herrera is not viewed as a long-term shortstop and the Mets want to continue to give Wilmer Flores chances this month. We wouldn't make too much out of it.
Sep 8 - 5:03 PM

Dilson Herrera tripled in two runs and belted his first career home run in Monday's loss to the Marlins.

Herrera launched a solo shot off of Henderson Alvarez in the third before tripling in two off of Sam Dyson in the sixth. The rookie now has four hits in his last 10 at-bats after going hitless in his first game. The Mets pounded out nine hits and six runs, but they allowed nine runs and committed a whopping six errors.
Sep 1 - 5:00 PM

Dilson Herrera went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his major league debut Friday against the Phillies.

Herrera grounded into a double play in his first at-bat and struck out in his second at-bat before making solid contact in his final at-bat, but Chase Utley was able to snag the liner for the out. The 20-year-old also committed an error in the ninth inning. Some struggles are to be expected in Herrera's first taste of the big leagues, but he has the potential to be relevant in deeper mixed leagues while Daniel Murphy (calf) is sidelined.
Aug 29 - 9:49 PM

Mets purchased the contract of 2B Dilson Herrera from Double-A Binghamton.

Well, that's a surprise. Daniel Murphy (calf) is headed to the disabled list and the Mets have made a bold move to give Herrera a shot. Acquired last season from the Pirates, Herrera entered play Thursday batting .319/.377/.471 with 12 homers, 70 RBI and 20 stolen bases between High- and Double-A and then went 3-for-4 with a homer for Binghamton. The 20-year-old should play regularly for the Mets while Murphy is out and is worth a shot in fantasy leagues even if he might not be ready.
Aug 28 - 10:30 PM

Mets prospect second baseman Dilson Herrera went 3-for-3 with two doubles, one walk, and one sacrifice fly for Double-A Binghamton on Friday, raising his Double-A line to .346/.415/.579.

Herrera has hit .324/.382/.483 across two levels in 2014, and has stolen 22 bases to boot. He has hit better in each month, as his monthly OPS has been 718, 790, 852, 987 and 1076 from April through August. It is looking more and more like acquiring Herrera along with Vic Black for two months of Marlon Byrd was a huge coup for the Mets, and Herrera should be in the major leagues at some point in 2015.
Aug 23 - 11:30 AM

Mets second base prospect Dilson Herrera went 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk for Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday.

Herrera has hit a robust .336/.407/.564 with 15 doubles, three triples, and nine home runs over 53 games in the Double-A Eastern League. The 20-year-old is now a fringe-top 50 prospect. Herrera is on track to make his major-league debut at some point in late-2015, but it could be pushed back to 2016 due to the Mets' glut of second base candidates.

His .971 OPS is over .200 points higher than the very respectable .765 OPS he posted in 67 games at High-A St. Lucie. On the season, the right-handed batter is hitting .321/.376/.465 with nine home runs, 28 doubles, five triples and 22 stolen bases through 108 games. Expect him to be a fixture in prospect rankings headed into 2015.

His overwhelming success at the more advanced level has been a pleasant surprise, especially after he batted .307/.355/.410 in 67 games at High-A St. Lucie to begin the season. Overall, Herrera is batting .320/.373/.464 with 39 extra-base hits, 21 stolen bases and 55 RBI in 102 games between both stops.

Herrera has seen his OPS increase every month, as he had a .718 OPS in April, a .790 OPS in May, an .852 OPS in June, and an 1.018 OPS so far in July. There has been buzz surrounding the idea of "selling high" on Daniel Murphy, but the Mets have seemed reluctant to trade their only All-Star.

Jul 13 - 11:14 AM

Mets second base prospect Dilson Herrera went 3-for-5 for Double-A Binghamton on Friday night.

Herrera has five singles in nine at bats for the Binghamton Mets. The Mets have a log jam at second base, with Daniel Murphy firmly entrenched as the starter, Eric Young, Jr. and Wilmer Flores as potential backups. Herrera is unlikely to reach the major leagues until the end of 2015, so a trade or two could give him an opportunity.
Jun 21 - 11:18 AM

Mets second base prospect Dilson Herrera has been promoted to Double-A Binghamton.

The 20-year old Herrera was acquired as part of the Marlon Byrd trade with the Pirates in late-August 2013. He put up a solid .307/.355/.410 with 16 doubles, two triples, and three home runs for High-A St. Lucie. In June, he played six of his 12 games at shortstop, and the Mets could view him as a short term fix for their shortstop situation, at least until Gavin Cecchini or Amed Rosario are ready.
Jun 19 - 8:40 AM

Mets second base prospect Dilson Herrera went 5-for-9 with a double and a hit by pitch in a doubleheader for High-A St. Lucie on Thursday.

The 20-year old Herrera is hitting .310/.359/.412 for the season, and is in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak during which he has hit .351/.415/.486. He has played approximately 1/3 of his games at shortstop in 2014, as the Mets are trying to see if there is a chance that he could play there long term.
