Dilson Herrera underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his right shoulder.
That'll be a wrap for his 2017 season. Herrera didn't make a single appearance in the majors this year and he registered an underwhelming .264/.312/.397 batting line over 68 games for Triple-A Louisville. The former top-100 prospect will try to get his career back on track in 2018. Wed, Jul 26, 2017 09:59:00 AM

Delino DeShields, the manager for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate, told Jason Linden of Red Leg Nation that Dilson Herrera (shoulder) is "probably done for the season."

The Reds have yet to make an official announcement on his status. Acquired from the Mets in the Jay Bruce deal, Herrera has dealt with a shoulder issue dating back to spring training and owns an underwhelming .264/.312/.397 batting line over 68 games in Triple-A this year.

Dilson Herrera will have his nagging right shoulder issue examined next week.

Herrera has had a shoulder problem dating back to spring training, and more recently the Reds are getting worried that the injury could be serious. It seems to have affected him at the plate, as he's hit a disappointing .264/.312/.397 at Triple-A Louisville. We'll obviously find out more about Herrera's status after he's examined.

Dilson Herrera is in concussion protocol after a collision with a teammate Wednesday at Triple-A Louisville.

That doesn't necessarily mean he has a concussion, but the 23-year-old infielder will probably get some extended rest anyway. Herrera has batted just .248/.301/.383 in 230 plate appearances this season at the Triple-A level.

Dilson Herrera (shoulder) has been fielding grounders and throwing across the diamond for the last several days.

Herrera hasn't played the field at all this spring due to nagging shoulder soreness, although it appears he's making progress. He'll begin the season at Triple-A Louisville but could eventually find his way into the Reds lineup if/when they trade Zack Cozart.

Reds optioned INF Dilson Herrera to Triple-A Louisville; reassigned OF Gabriel Guerrero, C Joe Hudson, INF Brandon Dixon, RHPs Jimmy Herget, Tyler Mahle, and Kevin Shackelford, and LHP Ismael Guillon and Nick Routt to minor league camp.

Herrera has been limited to DH duties during Cactus League action due to a sore shoulder. There will be fewer opportunities to DH in the days to come and Herrera isn't quite ready to play second base, so it's a logical move. Acquired from the Mets in the Jay Bruce deal last summer, Herrera still figures to have a role with the Reds at some point this year.

Reds manager Bryan Price would not offer a timetable as to when Dilson Herrera (shoulder) will play defense this spring.

Herrera's sore shoulder has not been enough to keep him from appearing in spring action -- he has played in eight games thus far -- but he has yet to take the field, instead working as a designated hitter. He is currently taking part in a throwing program. "It'll probably still be a little while [before he plays defense], I would imagine," said Price. "I couldn't even put a timetable on it." Herrera figures to open the season at Triple-A.

Dilson Herrera went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the Reds' 11-3 rout of the Angels on Sunday in Cactus League play.

That's already the fourth double of the spring for the talented 23-year-old infielder, who's batting .500/.611/.786 though 18 plate appearances in the Cactus League. Acquired from the Mets last August as part of the Jay Bruce trade, Herrera should be ready to take on a big role for the Reds at some point in 2017. He's probably going to be ticketed for Triple-A Louisville out of camp.

Dilson Herrera (shoulder) has been cleared to resume throwing.

Herrera has been battling some right shoulder inflammation for the last week. The Reds will ease him into a throwing program, but he can still serve as a designated hitter in Cactus League games. Herrera is almost surely headed to Triple-A to begin the season, but he could be a big part of the Reds' lineup at some point in 2017.

Dilson Herrera (shoulder) will be examined by Reds medical director Dr. Tim Kremchek on Thursday.

Herrera has been dealing with inflammation in his right shoulder, but he was able to do some throwing on Monday. The Reds plan to hold off on any more throwing until he's checked out on Thursday. Jose Peraza projects to start at second base following the Brandon Phillips trade, so Herrera is likely Triple-A bound if healthy.

Dilson Herrera is dealing with some inflammation in his right shoulder.

It's keeping him from throwing, but he can still hit and will serve as the Reds' designated hitter on Saturday. Still, it's not a great situation for Herrera as he attempts to make the Opening Day roster. How long it might be before he's able to return to full-time duty isn't known at this point.

Reds acquired INF Dilson Herrera and LHP Max Wotell from the Mets for OF Jay Bruce.

The two sides reconfigured the deal after the Reds reportedly raised a concern about Brandon Nimmo's medicals. Herrera has struggled in his sporadic opportunities in the majors, but he's still just 22 years old and is batting .276/.327/.462 with 13 homers and six steals over 86 games this season with Triple-A Las Vegas. He should get a chance to prove himself relatively soon.

Mets 2B prospect Dilson Herrera matched a season-high with five RBI Wednesday in a win for Triple-A Las Vegas.

He ripped an RBI double in the third before clearing the bases with a grand slam in the eighth. The 22-year-old has flexed his power muscles this year with 11 blasts and 43 RBI in only 65 contests. He ranks second in the Pacific Coast League in runs scored (52) and is also fourth in doubles with 20. Herrera appeared in 31 games for the Mets last season and should get another shot in the bigs later this year.

Mets 2B prospect Dilson Herrera slashed four hits Thursday in a win for Triple-A Las Vegas.

He homered and drove in four runs as the 51s cruised to a 17-7 win over Albuquerque. The 22-year-old has been scorching hot over his last eight games, batting .389 over that span while lifting his season average from .276 to .295. He's also driven in 11 runs during that stretch, raising his season total to 35. Herrera appeared in 31 games at the major league level last season, batting .211 with three homers and six RBI. The Mets haven't needed him yet in 2016 but that could change at any moment. At worst, he'll arrive when rosters expand in September.

Mets 2B prospect Dilson Herrera slugged two homers Tuesday in a win for Triple-A Las Vegas.

He plated five of the team's season-high 15 runs. Herrera, who had never homered twice in a game before Tuesday, needed a double to complete the cycle. The 22-year-old has five multi-hit games in his last 10 contests. Over that span, he's raised his average from .231 to .288. Herrera made 31 appearances for the Mets last year, hitting .211 with three homers and six RBI.
