Mets optioned INF Dilson Herrera to Triple-A Las Vegas.
An expected move, even after the recent knee injury to Asdrubal Cabrera. Herrera has a promising future, but he likely won't see significant time in the majors in 2016 unless there's an injury. Mar 15 - 9:31 AM

Date:

Dilson Herrera departed Sunday's game after fouling a pitch off the inside of his left knee.

Herrera limped off the field and you'd have to think he'll be sent for X-rays. The Mets should have more on the second baseman's status later Sunday.
Mar 13 - 3:50 PM

Dilson Herrera went 2-for-2 with a homer in the bottom of the ninth as the Mets and a Marlins split-squad played to a 4-4 tie on Friday.

The Mets might have been just fine with Herrera at second base this year, but they weren't willing to take the chance. With Neil Walker in town, Herrera will head to Triple-A, probably for the bulk of the season. His chance is likely to come in 2017.
Mar 4 - 6:19 PM

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Wednesday that prospect Dilson Herrera is "a viable alternative from within the organization" to replace Daniel Murphy at second base.

The Mets are expected to extend a qualifying offer to Murphy by Friday, but he'll almost certainly depart via free agency. Herrera has had a couple of cups of coffee in the majors already, but he could finally be ready for an extended opportunity. The 21-year-old batted .327/.382/.511 with 11 home runs, 50 RBI, and 13 stolen bases over 81 games with Triple-A Las Vegas this season. As of now, the Mets appear set to move forward with Herrera, Wilmer Flores, and Ruben Tejada in their middle infield in 2016.

Dilson Herrera went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a two-run home run as the Mets topped the Reds on Sunday.

Herrera smacked a two-run home run in the second inning off of Keyvius Sampson to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. With the Mets having clinched the NL East, he was making his first start since June 27. The infielder is batting .218/.320/.379 with three home runs and six RBI in 100 plate appearances.

Mets recalled 2B Dilson Herrera from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Herrera had a couple of stints with the Mets earlier this season and he's back now that the Triple-A season is over. The 21-year-old is a very promising player for the long-term, but he's likely to be a bench player down the stretch.

Mets optioned INF Dilson Herrera to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Wilmer Flores is set to take over as the starting second baseman, so Herrera is better off getting regular playing time in the minors. The 21-year-old is batting just .195/.290/.317 over 93 plate appearances at the major league level, but he still has a lot of long-term promise.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that the way Dilson Herrera has been playing, Daniel Murphy will be a third baseman when he returns from the disabled list.

Herrera went 1-for-3 and belted his second home run of the season in Sunday's victory over the Braves. The 21-year-old has certainly held his own at the plate thus far, slashing .255/.352/.426 with four RBI and a stolen base.

Mets activated INF Dilson Herrera from the 15-day disabled list.

Herrera missed close to four weeks because of a fracture in his right middle finger. He's going to play regularly with all the injuries on the Mets' infield depth chart, and the 21-year-old warrants some attention in deeper mixed fantasy leagues. A top-100 prospect, Herrera boasts a .302/.367/.464 career minor league batting line.

Dilson Herrera (finger) will not be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.

That's the day that had been looking most likely, but the Mets have decided to give him a bit more time on his rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas. Herrera could return by this weekend.

Dilson Herrera (finger) went 1-for-5 with a double Monday in a minor league rehab game with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Herrera moved up to Triple-A on Monday after going 5-for-11 over three games with High-A St. Lucie. The 21-year-old has been out since mid-May with a fractured tip of his right middle finger, but all signs point to his return on Wednesday. He could play a big role with the injuries in the Mets' infield.

Dilson Herrera (finger) began a rehab assignment on Thursday.

He picked up five hits in 11 at-bats for High-A St. Lucie and will now move up to Triple-A Las Vegas. Herrera should be activated by the Mets soon and they could use him with the injuries that have hit their infield.
Sun, Jun 7, 2015 08:25:00 AM

Dilson Herrera (finger) has begun swinging a bat lightly.

He's also begun throwing. Herrera was unable to grip a bat or baseball just a week ago, so he appears to have made big strides with his fractured right middle finger since then. There remains no timetable for his return.

Dilson Herrera (finger) remains unable to grip a baseball or a bat.

Herrera is able to field grounders, but his baseball activity remains limited just over a week after being diagnosed with a fractured right middle finger. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined.
