Mets placed INF Dilson Herrera on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right middle finger.

It's unclear at the moment just how much time he may stand to miss. The young infielder sustained the injury during fielding drills. Eric Campbell has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his place on the Mets roster.

According to SNY, Dilson Herrera has a broken right middle finger and will be sent to the disabled list.

Herrera was scratched from Friday's lineup with what was initially being termed a cracked fingernail. It appears that the injury is more significant than that, as it's being reported that he broke his right middle finger during fielding drills. No word as of yet on when he might be able to return. Ruben Tejada took his place at second on Friday.

May 15 - 5:08 PM

Dilson Herrera went 3-for-3 with an RBI single and a two-run home run as the Mets topped the Orioles on Wednesday.

Herrera entered the night with one hit (a single) in 14 plate appearances since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. He started the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning, then provided insurance with a two-run home run off of Brad Brach in the sixth. Herrera had been hitting well in the minors; the Mets are hoping some of that eventually translates while he's up in the majors.

Mets recalled INF Dilson Herrera from Triple-A Las Vegas.

No word yet on the corresponding move. The 21-year-old has been on a tear at the plate, slashing .375/.407/.513 with a homer, 11 RBI and three stolen bases in 19 games at Las Vegas. Herrera will play second base regularly until David Wright (hamstring) returns, pushing Daniel Murphy over to third.
Apr 30 - 11:02 PM

Mets prospect Dilson Herrera has hit .500 during his seven-game hitting streak for Triple-A Las Vegas.

He's recorded at least two hits in each of those outings. Herrera broke into the majors late last season, showing nice power with 3 HR and 11 RBI in only 59 at-bats. The 21-year-old could be back with New York soon if he keeps swinging a hot bat.
Apr 22 - 4:53 PM

Mets optioned 2B Dilson Herrera to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Herrera tallied just one hit in 19 plate appearances this spring in the Grapefruit League. The 21-year-old is a highly-thought-of second base prospect and could become the Mets' starter at the position in 2016. He is behind impending free agent Daniel Murphy for the time being.

Dilson Herrera (quad) is unlikely to return before the end of the 2014 regular season.

Herrera suffered a quad strain on Saturday against the Braves and an injury like that usually takes at least two weeks to heal. The 20-year-old second baseman hit .220/.303/.407 with three home runs and 11 RBI in his first 18 major league games.

Dilson Herrera is likely to miss several days due to a quad strain suffered Saturday against the Braves.

Terry Collins said after the game that he intends to leave Daniel Murphy at third with Herrera out, meaning Ruben Tejada and Wilmer Flores will start up the middle. Most likely, that will be the alignment for the entire final week.

Daniel Murphy is starting at third base and Dilson Herrera is starting at second base for the Mets Wednesday.

It's great news for Herrera, who should play regularly now down the stretch with Murphy sliding over to fill the spot vacated by the injured David Wright (shoulder). Herrera has batted .243/.317/.459 with two homers and seven RBI over 10 games for the Mets since his promotion late last month and is worth using in deeper leagues.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday that Dilson Herrera could see a game at shortstop.

It's an option, especially with Daniel Murphy (calf) close to coming off the disabled list. Still, Herrera is not viewed as a long-term shortstop and the Mets want to continue to give Wilmer Flores chances this month. We wouldn't make too much out of it.

Dilson Herrera tripled in two runs and belted his first career home run in Monday's loss to the Marlins.

Herrera launched a solo shot off of Henderson Alvarez in the third before tripling in two off of Sam Dyson in the sixth. The rookie now has four hits in his last 10 at-bats after going hitless in his first game. The Mets pounded out nine hits and six runs, but they allowed nine runs and committed a whopping six errors.

Dilson Herrera went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his major league debut Friday against the Phillies.

Herrera grounded into a double play in his first at-bat and struck out in his second at-bat before making solid contact in his final at-bat, but Chase Utley was able to snag the liner for the out. The 20-year-old also committed an error in the ninth inning. Some struggles are to be expected in Herrera's first taste of the big leagues, but he has the potential to be relevant in deeper mixed leagues while Daniel Murphy (calf) is sidelined.
