Juan Centeno passed all of his concussion tests and has been cleared to rejoin the Astros.

While he isn't starting, he's active and in uniform on Thursday. Centeno will provide depth behind the plate over the final few weeks of the regular season.
Sep 14 - 8:14 PM

Juan Centeno has been diagnosed with a mild concussion.

Centeno was lifted from the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the A's after getting struck in the mask by Jed Lowrie's backswing. The Astros have three other catchers, so Centeno wasn't going to play much even if he was healthy.
Sep 10 - 2:34 PM

Juan Centeno was pulled from the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the A's after getting struck in the mask by Jed Lowrie's backswing.

He'll likely be put through MLB's concussion protocol. Centeno did not make a plate appearance before getting lifted from the game in the bottom of the second inning. Max Stassi took over at catcher for Houston.
Sep 9 - 4:59 PM

Astros recalled C Juan Centeno from Triple-A Fresno.

Centeno is being rushed to Tropicana Field for Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Rangers with Evan Gattis (wrist) landing back on the disabled list Thursday morning. Centeno, 27, has batted .265/.324/.441 with two home runs in 37 plate appearances this season at the major league level.
Aug 31 - 10:58 AM

Astros optioned C Juan Centeno to Triple-A Fresno.

Brian McCann is back from the disabled list, so Centeno was no longer needed. The 27-year-old catcher has batted .265/.324/.441 with two home runs in 37 plate appearances this season at the major league level.
Aug 24 - 3:59 PM

Juan Centeno went 2-for-4 with a walk-off RBI single in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.

Centeno was just called up on Saturday after being down in the minors since the end of May. That move -- which the Astros needed to make with Evan Gattis (concussion) out of action -- paid almost immediate dividends, as Centeno capped off a four-run ninth inning rally with a walk-off RBI single to polish off yet another big Astros comeback (they trailed 6-3 in the frame). There is no fantasy upside, here, but it was a nice moment for the 27-year-old backstop nonetheless.
Aug 6 - 6:08 PM

Astros recalled C Juan Centeno from Triple-A Fresno.

He's taking the place of Evan Gattis who landed on the 7-day concussion DL on Saturday. Centeno appeared in two games earlier this season for the Astros, going 3-for-7 (.429) with a pair of homers.
Aug 5 - 2:15 PM

Astros optioned C Juan Centeno to Triple-A Fresno.

All the 27-year-old did was homer in each of his first two starts for the Astros, but with Brian McCann set to return from the disabled list there was no need to carry a third catcher. He'll continue to provide depth at Triple-A.
May 26 - 11:23 PM

Juan Centeno hit a solo homer and reached base three times Tuesday versus the Tigers.

The 27-year-old journeyman was making his first start in the majors this season, as he came up when Brian McCann went on the 7-day concussion DL. Even after the nice night, Centeno might be lucky to get one more start before McCann returns.
May 23 - 11:34 PM

Astros purchased the contract of C Juan Centeno from Triple-A Fresno.

He'll provide depth with Brian McCann (concussion) out. Centeno, 27, was off to a nice .368/.395/.487 start for Fresno.
May 21 - 10:41 AM

Astros signed C Juan Centeno to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Centeno got in 55 games last season for the Twins, batting .261/.312/.392 with three homers over 192 plate appearances. There's probably not room for him on the Opening Day roster unless the Astros trade Evan Gattis.

Twins sent C Juan Centeno outright to Triple-A Rochester.

He can decline the assignment if he wants, which seems likely. Centeno is a career .236/.290/.338 hitter over parts of four seasons in the majors.

Juan Centeno went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI doubles in Saturday's win over the White Sox.

Centeno knocked run-scoring doubles in the seventh and ninth innings to extend the Twins' lead. The 26-year-old has proven to be a pleasant surprise at the dish for the club, batting .261/.312/.392 with 25 RBI in 55 games this year.

Juan Centeno went 3-for-5 with a two-run double and three total RBI in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox.

Centeno hit a two-run double off Rick Porcello in the second inning. He would later add another double, plus an eighth-inning RBI single. The 26-year-old backstop has picked up five hits in his last eight at-bats. For the season as a whole, he is slashing .265/.301/.398 with two homers and 16 RBI. There is no fantasy intrigue here.
