Mariners claimed INF/OF Michael Freeman off waivers from the Diamondbacks.

Freeman was designated for assignment by Arizona on July 30. He has hit .317/.387/.411 with one home run and 11 stolen bases in 88 games this year at Triple-A.

The D'Backs needed to clear space on the 40-man roster to bring up relievers Steve Hathaway and Adam Loewen. Freeman should clear waivers and return to Triple-A Reno. He went 0-for-9 during his brief stint in Arizona.

A corresponding move hasn't been announced yet but David Peralta (back) is expected to come off the disabled list on Friday. Freeman was hitless with five strikeouts in nine at-bats during his brief stint in Arizona. The 28-year-old could be back when rosters expand in September.

Diamondbacks purchased the contract of INF/OF Michael Freeman from Triple-A Reno.

Freeman has batted .317/.387/.411 with 11 steals for Reno this season. He's a few weeks shy of his 29th birthday but will be making his major league debut when he enters a game.

Diamondbacks prospect Mike Freeman had a big night at the dish in Friday's victory over Glendale in the Arizona Fall League, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a stolen base.

The 26-year-old infielder, and 11th round selection from the 2010 draft, is now hitting .314/.405/.371 with seven RBI and four stolen bases. He's likely to begin the 2014 season back at Double-A Mobile where he'll serve as organizational depth in case the D'Backs suffer any injuries in the middle infield.
