Tommy La Stella (oblique) will hit soft-toss prior to Monday's game to determine whether he'll be available off the bench.

La Stella is nursing an oblique strain, but the Cubs consider it minor and it appears for now that he'll avoid the disabled list. Mike Olt is at third base Monday.

Tommy La Stella is unavailable to play Sunday due to a strain in his side.

The Cubs aren't calling it an oblique strain at this point, but it's certainly possible that's what it is. Consider La Stella day-to-day for now, but we can't rule out a future stint on the disabled list.
Apr 12 - 2:07 PM

Tommy La Stella went 3-for-3 and scored a run in Sunday's Cactus League match-up with the Royals.

All three hits were singles, raising his average to .333 (13-for-39). Only two of his 13 hits have gone for extra bases (a double and a triple), which is emblematic of what to expect of him during the regular season. La Stella will mostly contribute off the bench.
Mar 29 - 7:21 PM

Tommy La Stella went 3-for-3 and scored a run as the Cubs topped the Athletics 5-3 in Cactus League action on Friday.

La Stella is slated to begin the season as the Cubs everyday third baseman, though he's likely just keeping the seat warm until Kris Bryant passes the Super-two deadline and joins the big league club at some point in June.

Cubs acquired INF Tommy La Stella and international signing bonus slot #4 from the Braves for RHP Arodys Vizcaino and Cubs international signing bonus slots #2, #3 and #4.

The 25-year-old took over as the Braves starting second baseman midway through the 2014 season, slashing .251/.328/.317 with one homer and 31 RBI in his 93 games. He should function as a reserve infielder for the Cubs.

Tommy La Stella went 0-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Mets.

Phil Gosselin has seen more time at second base of late, so this was his first start since Saturday. La Stella got off to a nice start in the majors, but he's hitting just .174 since the start of August.

Tommy La Stella (head) doubled, walked, and scored a run in his return to action Wednesday.

La Stella was a late scratch from the Braves' starting lineup on Tuesday due to a migraine headache. It was never a serious concern. The rookie second baseman is batting .257/.334/.326 in 88 games this season.

Tommy La Stella was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to a migraine.

He should be alright in a day or two. Phil Gosselin took La Stella's spot at second base.

Tommy La Stella had a rough night at the dish in Friday's loss to the Marlins, going hitless in his four at-bats.

He continues to see regular action at second base, but has provided fantasy owners with nothing more than an empty batting average, slashing .260/.335/.328 with one homer and 31 RBI.

Tommy La Stella returned to the Braves' lineup Tuesday.

La Stella left Monday's game against the Dodgers with a cramp in his upper right hamstring, but it obviously was no big deal. The rookie is sporting a .284/.366/.360 batting line this season.

Tommy La Stella left Monday's game against the Dodgers with a cramp in his upper right hamstring.

If it's indeed just a cramp, La Stella could be OK in a day or two. Often, however, "cramps" wind up being strains. The Braves should update La Stella's status later Monday.

Tommy La Stella went 2-for-4 with his first career homer and two runs scored Friday against the Nationals.

Normally we'd be impressed that La Stella took Stephen Strasburg deep, but three other Braves homered off him on Friday night. In all seriousness, it was nice to see him get the first one out of the way, but any power is a bonus with the other things he brings to the table. With a .288 batting average and a .364 on-base percentage, he's doing just fine.

Tommy La Stella went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI in a win over the Padres on Sunday.

La Stella had an RBI single and scored in the third inning, part of a six-run frame by the Braves. The 25-year-old also walked and scored in the seventh inning. La Stella is hitting .288/.363/.356 with a 22/23 BB/K ratio since taking over as the Braves' everyday second baseman in late May.

Tommy La Stella doubled twice and knocked in three runs in four at-bats in Sunday's win over the Phillies.

With Uggla out of the picture, La Stella's job is secure. He has responded by hitting safely in all three games out of the All-Star break. The second baseman cleared the bases with one of his two doubles, padding the Braves' lead to 6-1 in the third inning. The rookie is slashing .297/.371/.376 with 21 RBI and a pair of stolen bases to begin his major league career.
