Tommy La Stella finished 2-for-2 with two RBI in the Cubs' 9-9 Cactus League tie with the Rangers on Sunday.
La Stella jumped on Rangers right-hander Nick Martinez with a solo shot in the first inning and a run-scoring sac fly in the second. It was just the second game of the spring for La Stella, who came down with some hamstring tightness shortly after arriving at Cubs camp. He will probably have a spot on the Cubs' bench to open the 2017 season. Mar 5 - 6:53 PM

Tommy La Stella (hamstring) is expected to make his Cactus League debut on Friday.

La Stella has been limited to side work in Cubs camp because of minor left hamstring tightness. It's not something that should affect the 28-year-old infielder's availability for the beginning of the 2017 regular season.

Tommy La Stella is currently dealing with tightness in his left hamstring.

He's considered day-to-day. The 28-year-old appeared in 74 games for the Cubs in 2016, slashing .270/.357/.405 with a pair of homers and 11 RBI in 148 at-bats. He's expected to once again function in a utility role for the Cubs in 2017.

Cubs recalled INF Tommy La Stella from Triple-A Iowa.

La Stella is starting at second base and batting seventh on Wednesday night against Pirates right-hander Ryan Vogelsong. He initially refused to report to the minors when the Cubs demoted him on July 29 but eventually relented and is now back in the majors as a utilityman.

Tommy La Stella will be among the Cubs' September call-ups this week.

La Stella initially refused to report to Triple-A Iowa following his demotion late last month -- and was even placed on the temporary inactive list for a stretch -- but he finally came around to the idea and has been playing regularly between second base and third base in Triple-A. The 27-year-old was batting .295/.388/.457 at the time of his demotion and is capable of being a useful bench piece down the stretch.

Tommy La Stella is starting at second base and batting second Wednesday with Double-A Tennessee.

His holdout is finally over. La Stella was demoted to Triple-A Iowa on July 29 but headed home to New Jersey instead and remained there for over two weeks. He'll now try to work his way back to Chicago via the Double-A level.

Tommy La Stella has been placed on the temporary inactive list at Triple-A Iowa.

La Stella was optioned to Iowa on July 29 but refused to report and is currently working out at home in New Jersey. The 27-year-old utilityman had a .295/.388/.457 batting line in 122 plate appearances at the time of his demotion and is still upset about the move. What happens next is mostly up to him.

Tommy La Stella has not reported to Triple-A Iowa, 11 days after his demotion.

La Stella was upset about getting bumped from the Cubs' active 25-man roster on July 29 and headed home to New Jersey instead of Des Moines. He is working out and in contact with Cubs management, but this obviously makes for a tricky situation for the organization. "It’s just what he’s thinking and what he wants his next step to be regarding his career path in baseball or otherwise," Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters on Tuesday. "There’s no animosity whatsoever. It’s really the same conversation. It’s just a young man in a situation now trying to weigh his different options."
