Tommy La Stella left Monday's game against the Dodgers with a cramp in his upper right hamstring.

If it's indeed just a cramp, La Stella could be OK in a day or two. Often, however, "cramps" wind up being strains. The Braves should update La Stella's status later Monday.
Aug 11 - 8:09 PM

Tommy La Stella went 2-for-4 with his first career homer and two runs scored Friday against the Nationals.

Normally we'd be impressed that La Stella took Stephen Strasburg deep, but three other Braves homered off him on Friday night. In all seriousness, it was nice to see him get the first one out of the way, but any power is a bonus with the other things he brings to the table. With a .288 batting average and a .364 on-base percentage, he's doing just fine.
Aug 9 - 12:22 AM

Tommy La Stella went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI in a win over the Padres on Sunday.

La Stella had an RBI single and scored in the third inning, part of a six-run frame by the Braves. The 25-year-old also walked and scored in the seventh inning. La Stella is hitting .288/.363/.356 with a 22/23 BB/K ratio since taking over as the Braves' everyday second baseman in late May.
Jul 27 - 10:11 PM

Tommy La Stella doubled twice and knocked in three runs in four at-bats in Sunday's win over the Phillies.

With Uggla out of the picture, La Stella's job is secure. He has responded by hitting safely in all three games out of the All-Star break. The second baseman cleared the bases with one of his two doubles, padding the Braves' lead to 6-1 in the third inning. The rookie is slashing .297/.371/.376 with 21 RBI and a pair of stolen bases to begin his major league career.
Jul 20 - 6:49 PM

Tommy La Stella went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in a win over the Cubs on Sunday.

La Stella scored a run in the second inning, but his big damage came on a bases-loaded double in the seventh. La Stella is batting .292/.371/.357 with 12 runs and 17 RBI since being promoted, and with Dan Uggla appearing to be on the way out, La Stella's playing time will be unchallenged in the second half.
Jul 13 - 7:55 PM

Tommy La Stella (foot) went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts Wednesday against the Mets.

La Stella made an early exit on Tuesday night after getting hit in the right foot by a Daisuke Matsuzaka pitch. He only suffered a minor bruise. The 25-year-old second baseman is batting .270/.356/.339 through his first 33 games at the major league level.
Jul 3 - 3:53 AM

Tommy La Stella left Tuesday's game against the Mets with a bruised right foot.

La Stella was hit on the foot by a Daisuke Matsuzaka pitch in the second inning. It doesn't appear that there are any X-rays planned, and La Stella says he'll be fine to play Wednesday.
Jul 1 - 10:22 PM

Tommy La Stella went hitless in a fifth straight game Thursday against the Astros, though he did manage a sac fly.

La Stella is 2-for-31 with no runs scored in eight games batting first or second. Fredi Gonzalez needs to juggle things again after his misguided idea to hit Jason Heyward fifth and Justin Upton sixth. That he thought it was a smart plan to give B.J. Upton and La Stella more at-bats than those two is pretty baffling.
Jun 26 - 5:12 PM

Tommy La Stella led the Braves offensive attack in Sunday’s 6-3 victory over the Angels, going 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBI.

La Stella also drew a walk in the ballgame and scored a run, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances. His two-run double off Hector Santiago in the sixth inning put the Braves on top and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. He’s off to a very nice start to his big league career, slashing .411/.476/.446 with six RBI through his first 56 at-bats.
Jun 15 - 11:48 PM

Tommy La Stella singled twice Wednesday against the Red Sox in his major league debut.

That's La Stella's game: singles and the occasional walk. He'll need to play regularly to be of any real use at all in NL-only leagues, and time will tell whether that will happen. It's hard to imagine him helping mixed leaguers this year.
May 28 - 10:48 PM

Braves purchased the contract of 2B Tommy La Stella from Triple-A Gwinnett.

The Braves have gotten next to nothing from the second base position this season, so they've decided to give La Stella a shot. A former eighth-round pick, La Stella boasts an impressive .322/.407/.474 career batting line in the minors and a .293/.384/.359 line at Gwinnett this season. He doesn't hit for power or run much, so the 25-year-old will need to hit for average to have fantasy value. Still, he's worth a shot in deeper leagues. The Braves have yet to announce a corresponding move.
May 28 - 12:27 PM's Mark Bowman suspects that Tommy La Stella could replace Dan Uggla as the Braves' starting second baseman "sooner, rather than later."

Bowman admits that it's pure speculation, but the situation is certainly trending that way. Uggla has hit .190/.248/.280 with 30 strikeouts in 27 games this year for Atlanta while La Stella, 25, has hit .313/.372/.333 in 27 games at Triple-A. La Stella isn't much of a prospect for fantasy purposes because of his lack of power, but he could be a real and immediate upgrade for the Braves.

May 5 - 12:13 PM

Braves second base prospect Tommy La Stella went 3-for-4 with a walk for Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday, and is hitting .295/.370/.318 for the season

With Dan Uggla hitting .237/.281/.390 for Atlanta, La Stella will remain in Triple-A until Uggla's OPS dips below .650. The 25-year old second baseman is not likely to become an elite player, but he could do much better than Uggla (who still has one year and $13 million left on his contract).
Apr 20 - 10:21 AM

Braves reassigned INFs Tommy La Stella and Tyler Greene to minor league camp.

No surprises here. La Stella didn't hit well enough this spring to force the Braves to consider him for an Opening Day roster spot, but he is an exciting talent and should be up at some point this summer. He might even steal starting second base duties from Dan Uggla.
