Athletics claimed RHP Marcus Walden off waivers from the Blue Jays; optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

Walden had been designated for assignment on Tuesday. The 25-year-old owns a 3.73 ERA over 90 starts and 24 relief appearances in the minors and will represent depth at Triple-A.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Marcus Walden from Triple-A Buffalo.

No word yet on the corresponding roster move, but Walden will provide much needed depth to a bullpen that was taxed on Friday with Dustin McGowan lasting just 2 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old posted a 3.71 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 88/50 K/BB ratio over 162 1/3 innings at Double-A New Hampshire in 2013.

Blue Jays re-signed RHP Marcus Walden to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Walden posted a 3.71 ERA with just 88 strikeouts over 162 1/3 frames at the Double-A level this past season. He'll be in big league camp but will almost surely start the season in the minors.
