Reds acquired INF Eugenio Suarez and RHP Jonathon Crawford from the Tigers for RHP Alfredo Simon.
Suarez batted just .242/.316/.336 in 277 plate appearances this past season for Detroit, but he's only 23 years old and should eventually unseat Zack Cozart as the Reds' starting shortstop. Suarez put up some promising offensive numbers in the minor leagues. Thu, Dec 11, 2014 11:45:00 AM

Eugenio Suarez belted a game-winning solo homer off Casey Janssen in the ninth inning, powering the Tigers to a 5-4 victory over the Blue Jays on Friday.

The Tigers entered the ninth inning trailing 5-3, but a one-out double by J.D. Martinez and a two-run homer by Nick Castellanos tied the game and set the stage for Suarez. The rookie shortstop has done a nice job in his first exposure to major league pitching, slashing .253/.333/.397 with four homers and 14 RBI in 146 at-bats.

Eugenio Suarez (knee) is out of the Tigers' starting lineup again on Wednesday evening.

Suarez also sat out Tuesday after leaving Monday's game with a sprained left knee. The Tigers are optimistic that it's a minor injury, but the young shortstop underwent an MRI and a more-exact diagnosis should be coming soon.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Tuesday that the club is "cautiously optimistic" Eugenio Suarez's left knee injury is "more short-term issue."

The club is still waiting on the MRI results, but Ausmus said that Suarez was "moving around extremely well" prior to Tuesday's game. He tweaked the knee on a stolen base Monday. Andrew Romine started at shortstop in Suarez's place Tuesday, but it sounds like the rookie will be back in there soon.

Eugenio Suarez (knee) is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Yankees.

Suarez left Monday's game with a sprained left knee and it's not clear how long he'll be sidelined. Andrew Romine will fill in at shortstop Tuesday.

Eugenio Suarez has been diagnosed with a sprained left knee.

Suarez suffered the injury during a steal of second base in the fifth inning of Monday's game against the Yankees. The Tigers didn't call him day-to-day, so it's possible the injury might lead to a DL stint. He'll be re-evaluated on Tuesday. Andrew Romine and Hernan Perez would fill in at shortstop if Suarez has to miss time.

Eugenio Suarez left Monday's game versus the Yankees with an apparent leg injury.

Suarez appeared to tweak his left knee during a steal of second base in the fifth inning. The Tigers should update the young shortstop's status soon. Andrew Romine pinch-ran for Suarez and will take over at shortstop.

Eugenio Suarez went 0-for-3 but had a sacrifice fly Thursday in his return to the lineup.

Suarez was pulled from Tuesday's game and then sat out Wednesday with lower back tightness, but he should be fine moving forward. The 23-year-old is batting .254/.338/.385 with three homers in 43 contests for the Tigers.

Eugenio Suarez (back) is not in the Tigers' starting lineup on Wednesday against the White Sox.

Suarez made an early exit from Tuesday's game after experiencing tightness in his lower back. It's not a serious issue and he expects to return to action Thursday.

Eugenio Suarez left Tuesday's game versus the White Sox with lower back tightness.

The Tigers are listing him as day-to-day, so it appears that it's not a big issue. Suarez singled in his lone at-bat before leaving and is batting .260/.347/.394 for the season.

Eugenio Suarez went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 12-9 win over the Twins.

Suarez hit a solo homer and RBI double in Detroit's seven-run third inning, walked in the fifth inning, and then tripled to right field in the seventh. The 22-year-old shortstop is batting .400 with a 1.500 OPS, three home runs, and eight runs scored through his first eight major league games. Regression is coming, but Suarez is worth owning in pretty much every standard fantasy league at the moment. He had promising numbers this season in the minors.

Eugenio Suarez hit his second homer in three games Monday against the White Sox.

Suarez won't keep hitting a homer every other day, of course, but he certainly offers the most fantasy potential of Detroit's shortstop options. We don't expect that he'll be quite good enough to have lasting value in shallow mixed leagues, but he'll get the chance to prove us wrong.

Eugenio Suarez had a nice day at the dish in Sunday’s loss to the Red Sox, going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles.

Suarez got the Tigers on the board with an RBI single off John Lackey in the third inning and later plated the go-ahead run with another knock to put the Tigers up 3-2 in the seventh. He’s now 3-for-7 (.429) with three RBI in his first couple of games, and could make for an intriguing middle infield addition in deeper mixed leagues.
