Orioles designated LHP Jayson Aquino for assignment.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for outfield prospect Austin Hays, who is joining the Orioles for the stretch run. Aquino surrendered 12 runs -- 11 earned -- in 13 1/3 innings of relief this season with Baltimore.

His roster spot has been absorbed by infielder Johnny Giavotella. Aquino scattered four runs (three earned) and five hits over 5 1/3 innings Wednesday in a spot start versus the Brewers. He'll be back in Baltimore at some point this year.
Jul 6 - 4:57 PM

Jayson Aquino surrendered four runs -- three earned -- in 5 1/3 innings and was charged with a loss to the Brewers on Wednesday.

He gave up an unearned run on a Manny Machado error in the second inning, then gave up three earned runs in the fourth. The big blow was a two-run bomb by Keon Broxton. Aquino struck out seven batters without issuing a walk in the contest. He has a 7.43 ERA in 13 1/3 innings spread over two starts and two relief appearances. He was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to make a spot start today in place of Chris Tillman, who is on paternity leave. He will likely head back to the minors tomorrow.

Aquino will make a spot start for the Orioles on Wednesday night against the Brewers. He has a 4.46 ERA over 12 starts this season at the Triple-A level and is not a recommended fantasy streamer.
Jul 5 - 3:28 PM

The Orioles are expected to call up Jayson Aquino to start Wednesday against the Brewers.

Chris Tillman was originally scheduled to start, but the assumption is that he's headed to the paternity leave list. Aquino has posted a 4.46 ERA over 12 starts in Triple-A this year and can be avoided for fantasy purposes.
Jul 4 - 1:16 PM

Orioles optioned LHP Jayson Aquino to Triple-A Norfolk.

The 24-year-old hurler posted a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in eight innings with the big league club. He should get another opportunity with the O's at some point this summer.
May 27 - 3:35 PM

Orioles recalled LHP Jayson Aquino from Triple-A Norfolk.

Aquino has a 9.00 ERA this year in the majors and a 5.13 ERA at the Triple-A level. No matter what role he fills, the 24-year-old left-hander carries no fantasy relevance in Baltimore.
May 23 - 3:50 PM

Jayson Aquino was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday for Triple-A Norfolk.

Aquino was supposed to pitch in Indianapolis but now it looks like he'll be headed to Kansas City, where he'll join the Orioles Friday for the start of their three-game set against the Royals. The left-hander carries a 9.00 ERA in three outings including one start for the O's this year.
May 11 - 7:50 PM

Orioles optioned LHP Jayson Aquino to Triple-A Norfolk.

Aquino was solid in a spot start for the O's but was then roughed up in consecutive relief appearances. He'll join Norfolk's rotation.
Apr 30 - 8:24 AM

Jayson Aquino held his own in a spot start Saturday against the Red Sox, scattering six hits, two runs and two walks over six innings of solid work for his first win of 2017.

He also added two strikeouts. Aquino was making his first career start. The only runs he allowed came on a towering two-run blast by Jackie Bradley in the third inning. Aquino didn't have many clean innings but was able to keep the damage to a minimum. He might get another start while the Orioles wait on Chris Tillman to return from a shoulder injury.
Apr 22 - 11:03 PM

Jayson Aquino will start Saturday against the Red Sox.

It will be the left-hander's first big league start. The Orioles haven't settled on a No. 5 starter in Chris Tillman's absence, instead rotating arms in and out based on matchups. Alec Asher, who was used last week when the Orioles needed a fifth starter, will pitch out of the bullpen going forward.

Orioles recalled LHP Jayson Aquino from Triple-A Norfolk.

Aquino had allowed five runs -- four earned -- over nine innings (two starts) this season at the Triple-A level. He'll give the Orioles long relief depth.
Apr 19 - 3:21 PM

Orioles optioned LHP Jayson Aquino to Triple-A Norfolk.

Aquino could return later this month when the Orioles need a fifth starter. The lefty allowed just two runs over 15 innings this spring.
Apr 2 - 1:20 PM

Jayson Aquino tossed four innings of one-run ball and struck out four as the Orioles edged a Blue Jays split-squad 2-1 on Sunday.

Aquino might wind up as the Orioles' fifth starter with Chris Tillman (shoulder) set to spend most or all of April on the disabled list. He's not of any interest in AL-only leagues just yet, but he's done well in allowing just two runs in 15 innings this spring.
