Blue Jays acquired LHP Jayson Aquino from the Rockies for LHP Tyler Ybarra.

Aquino was designated for assignment by the Rockies at the end of January. The 22-year-old Dominican left-hander posted a rough 5.13 ERA and 1.495 WHIP in 18 starts last season between High-A Modesto and Double-A Tulsa. He is not much of a prospect.

Rockies designated LHP Jayson Aquino for assignment.

They needed to clear room on the 40-man roster following a trade with the Braves. Aquino, 22, has struggled while moving up the organizational ladder, posting a 5.13 ERA in 18 starts between High- and Double-A in 2014. He seems likely to clear waivers.

Rockies prospect left-hander Jayson Aquino was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for a possible concussion.

Initial reports indicated that Aquino may have been hit in the back/shoulder by a line drive during Thursday's intrasquad game, but it appears that he was hit in the head after all. The Rockies are obviously taking every precaution in this situation and will pass along an update soon.

Rockies prospect left-hander Jayson Aquino left Thursday's instrasquad game after he was hit in the back/shoulder by a line drive.

Scary moment. Aquino apparently managed to mostly duck out of the way, but it still got him. It doesn't seem too serious, but he was likely taken out for precautionary reasons. The Rockies should pass along an update soon.

Rockies purchased the contract of LHP Jayson Aquino from Class A Asheville.

Aquino, who turns 21 on Friday, posted a 4.34 ERA and 73/26 K/BB ratio in 87 innings across 14 starts and one relief appearance this year between Low-A Tri-City and Class A Asheville. He's still a while away from the big leagues, but the Rockies didn't want to risk losing him in December's Rule 5 Draft.
