Twins optioned DH Kennys Vargas to Double-A Chattanooga.
Vargas had one hit in three at-bats on Wednesday, pushing up his season line to a still-awful .245/.277/.365. The Twins will not announce a corresponding roster move until Thursday, but there's been speculation that they could call up Miguel Sano. Jul 1 - 3:38 PM

Kennys Vargas had a big night as the Twins routed the White Sox on Monday, finishing 4-for-4 with an RBI single and a three-run home run.

Vargas rapped an RBI single as part of a five-run fourth inning, then drilled a three-run homer to kickstart a five-run sixth inning. Entering the night, Vargas had recorded only six hits in 36 plate appearances since getting recalled from Triple-A. He's batting .248/.283/.379 on the year with five home runs and 15 RBI.
Jun 22 - 11:32 PM

Kennys Vargas hit a walk-off home run to seal Thursday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals.

The way both staffs were pitching, it seemed this game might last a while, but unfortunately for the Cardinals, Kennys Vargas must have had dinner plans. He launched a game-ending homer off of reliever Carlos Villanueva with two outs in the ninth inning to send the fans home happy. Vargas had been hit-less in each of his last four games prior to finishing Thursday's contest 2-for-4. After an early season demotion, he hit .327/.414/.551 for Triple-A Rochester over 15 games before receiving a call-up on June 7. The results have been mixed-negative since his return to the major leagues, but he should continue to see at-bats.
Jun 18 - 4:36 PM

Kennys Vargas went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Rangers on Friday.

Vargas is 3-for-15 (.200) since being recalled from Triple-A this week. He has struck out twice in all four games.
Jun 12 - 11:44 PM

Twins recalled 1B Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester.

The 24-year-old slugger opened the season as the Twins primary designated hitter and cleanup batter but slashed a mere .250/.297/.365 with 10 RBI in 28 games before his demotion in mid-May. He appears to have figured something out at Triple-A, hitting .327/.414/.551 with three homers and eight RBI in his 15 games. He should see plenty of at-bats in the middle of the Twins lineup and is worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.
Jun 7 - 5:40 PM

Twins optioned 1B Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.

The 24-year-old has been a bit of a disappointment for the Twins this season, hitting just .250/.297/.365 with three homers and 10 RBI in 28 games, so he'll head down to Triple-A to get everyday at-bats while Eduardo Nunez returns from the disabled list. Vargas should find his way back to Minnesota before long.
May 17 - 6:42 PM

Kennys Vargas is absent from the Twins' lineup Wednesday.

Vargas is hitting .368/.415/.447 versus lefties this season, but he's being benched here against Kyle Lobstein. Eduardo Escobar is in the designated hitter spot instead.
May 13 - 3:57 PM

Kennys Vargas is not in the Twins' lineup Sunday.

The Twins are starting Torii Hunter in the designated hitter spot and putting Eddie Rosario in right field. Vargas is batting just .247/.300/.355 this season.
May 10 - 11:01 AM

Kennys Vargas, out of the starting lineup despite six hits this month, homered off the bench Wednesday against the A's.

Oddly enough, it's Vargas's third homer in 19 at-bats as a first baseman. He's hitting .167 with no homers in 62 at-bats as a designated hitter. Of course, the Twins aren't going to have him and Joe Mauer switch spots anytime soon, so he's going to have to perform better at DH to stick in the majors.
May 6 - 11:30 PM

Kennys Vargas went 2-for-3 with a run scored against the White Sox on Friday.

Vargas singled to lead off the fifth inning and eventually came around to score when Jose Quintana uncorked a wild pitch. It ended up being the only run of the ballgame. Vargas has multi-hit games in two out of his last three, so perhaps he's starting to turn the corner. The 24-year-old is batting just .194 with 21 strikeouts in 72 plate appearances, so the clock might be ticking.
May 1 - 11:27 PM

Even with the rest of the lineup combining for 13 hits and 12 runs, Kennys Vargas went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Thursday.

Something similar happened Saturday, with Vargas going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in a game in which the Twins scored eight runs. Vargas is hitting just .172 with one homer and four RBI in 64 at-bats. He could soon be sent down to Triple-A, with Aaron Hicks or Josmil Pinto replacing him.
Apr 30 - 11:16 PM

While the rest of the Twins were combining for eight runs, Kennys Vargas went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts Saturday against the Mariners.

The Twins would certainly prefer that Vargas start hitting, but they could really improve their outfield defense by sending Vargas to Triple-A and installing Oswaldo Arcia as their DH. It's something they'll have to weigh if Vargas doesn't figure it out over the next week or two.
Apr 26 - 12:58 AM

Kennys Vargas is not in the Twins' lineup Monday.

It appears to just be a day of rest. The Twins have the light-hitting Eduardo Escobar in the designated hitter spot against righty Edinson Volquez.
Apr 20 - 4:25 PM

Kennys Vargas went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in a win over the Royals on Thursday.

His first home run of the season, it was an absolute laser shot which bounced off the facing of the second deck in the left field seats. The 24-year-old switch-hitter is batting .250/.300/.393 through eight games and has 20-homer potential if the at-bats are there this season.
Apr 16 - 4:53 PM

Kennys Vargas went 2-for-4 with an RBI single Monday against the Royals.

Vargas got the Twins on the board first in the home opener, but the good vibes quickly fizzled in what turned out to be a lopsided loss. The 24-year-old switch-hitter impressed in a small sample as a rookie last season and appears capable of 20-plus homers. He's hitting .238 (5-for-21) with a double through six games.
