Kennys Vargas went 2-for-3 with a homer Tuesday against the Rangers.
ByungHo Park should outhit Vargas given the chance, but that doesn't mean Vargas can't contribute. It just remains to be seen how many at-bats he'll get, what with Robbie Grossman off to a great start in the DH spot. Apr 26 - 1:06 AM

Twins recalled 1B/DH Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester.

Vargas was batting .227 with two home runs in the early going with Rochester. He doesn't figure to see much playing time with Robbie Grossman faring so well in the designated hitter spot.

Twins optioned 1B/DH Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.

Vargas had a path to the designated hitter spot cleared for him this spring, but he was away for a while for the World Baseball Classic and then got hurt. He should get a shot eventually.

An MRI on Kennys Vargas' bruised left foot showed no structural damage.

Vargas went hitless in a minor league game on Wednesday but came out of it no worse for the wear. He'll get another minor league game under his belt on Friday. The Twins sent down ByungHo Park on Thursday, a sign that they're counting on Vargas to be ready for Opening Day Monday against Kansas City.
Mar 30 - 6:31 PM

Kennys Vargas (foot) went 0-for-3 in minor league action on Wednesday.

After taking his hacks, Vargas indicated that there had been no increase of swelling in his injured left foot and that he felt good. The 26-year-old initially suffered the injury after fouling a ball off his hoof on March 24. His availability for Opening Day has not yet been determined, but that should clarify relatively soon.

Kennys Vargas (foot) took batting practice Monday.

Vargas has been out of game action after fouling a ball off his left foot last Friday, but he did some running Sunday and has now resumed hitting. It's possible Vargas will be ready in time for Opening Day, but he seems to have fallen behind ByungHo Park in the battle for designated hitter at-bats.
Mar 27 - 4:19 PM

Kennys Vargas (foot) will attempt to run Sunday.

He's had a sore left foot the last couple days after fouling a ball off the area. Between injury and his World Baseball Classic participation, Vargas has received only 15 Grapefruit League at-bats (and gotten just one hit). It's looking like ByungHo Park will probably open the season as the Twins' primary designated hitter.
Mar 26 - 11:35 AM

Kennys Vargas will undergo more testing on his bruised left foot.

Vargas fouled a ball off his left foot in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles. He's been getting around on crutches and still can't put any weight on his foot. "I can’t imagine him being ready here too quickly," said manager Paul Molitor. Vargas' availability for Opening Day looks to be in doubt.
Mar 25 - 6:03 PM

Kennys Vargas was forced to leave Friday's Grapefruit League contest with a left foot contusion.

The Twins are calling him day-to-day and this isn't expected to put his Opening Day in jeopardy. He fouled a ball off of his foot and was hobbling around afterwards so he was lifted for precautionary reasons.
Mar 24 - 9:04 PM

Kennys Vargas spent a week over the winter taking hitting lessons in the Dominican Republic from Manny Ramirez.

Vargas was introduced by teammate Miguel Sano who declined Ramirez' invitation. Along with working on the mental aspect of hitting, the 26-year-old slugger was encouraged by Ramirez to elevate the ball more. While it isn't a guarantee of success, taking the advice of future Hall of Famers can't hurt Vargas' chances in 2017.
Feb 19 - 8:42 PM

The Twins have successfully petitioned for a fourth option year on Kennys Vargas.

This means that the Twins could stash Vargas in Triple-A again in 2017. The 26-year-old batted .230 with 10 home runs and an .833 OPS over 177 plate appearances this past season. Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that he has generated some trade interest.

Vargas took Royals starter Danny Duffy yard for the solo blast in the sixth inning. He also doubled off the southpaw in the contest. Vargas has now homered in two straight games and has 10 dingers in 44 games overall. He's batted .250/.354/.543 in those 44 games.

Kennys Vargas went 1-for-4 and hit a two-run homer in Wednesday's loss to the Royals.

The sixth-inning blast with Miguel Sano aboard tied the game but the Twins would not score again. Vargas spent most of the season in the minors. He has gotten to play only sparingly in the majors although he has performed quite well when given the chance. He is batting .244/.352/.519 with nine longballs and 19 RBI in just 135 at-bats.

Kennys Vargas hit his eighth homer in 112 at-bats this season Sunday against the Mets.

Vargas has been the Twins' best hitter when he's played this year, but he didn't start in the NL park the previous two days. Along with the eight homers, he has a .277 average, 10 doubles and 22 walks in his 112 at-bats. That's more walks than teammates Trevor Plouffe, Byron Buxton, Kurt Suzuki, Eduardo Escobar, Eduardo Nunez (as a Twin) and Eddie Rosario have in less than half as much playing time.
