Kennys Vargas will consider making the move to Japan or Korea this winter.
"There’s pretty good money over there," Vargas told Mike Berardino. "Then I could come back here. I’m open for whatever life brings to me. Any opportunity, I have to take advantage of it." Vargas also considered Korea two years ago, but the Twins weren't ready to give him up then. He went on to post nice numbers in 47 major league games in 2016, but he slipped to .253/.314/.444 in 241 at-bats this year, leaving him at .252/.311/.437 in 783 at-bats over four seasons in Minnesota. Asia makes a whole lot of sense for him at this point. Oct 5 - 7:18 PM

Kennys Vargas went 2-for-2 with a homer and two walks in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.

The homer was in the ninth inning off of Kevin McCarthy with one on and the Royals holding an 11-1 lead. It's garbage time, but it still counts. Vargas is now hitting .249/.311/.438 with 10 homers and 38 runs batted in on the year.

Kennys Vargas went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Thursday against the White Sox.

It'd be nice if the Twins could pick up some sort of bat for the DH spot prior to the postseason roster deadline tonight, though they might have to bring back Miguel Sano as a DH once he returns from injury. Vargas is hitting just .242/.299/.420 in 207 at-bats.
Aug 31 - 4:41 PM

Kennys Vargas clobbered his ninth home run as the Twins topped the White Sox on Tuesday night in Chicago.

Vargas tagged White Sox' rookie right-hander Lucas Giolito for the go-ahead solo shot in the fifth inning which proved to be the difference in the game. He finished the night 1-for-3 and is hitting .245/.296/.440 with nine homers and 31 RBI. He could be worth a look as a matchup play in deeper mixed leagues while Miguel Sano is sidelined.

Twins recalled 1B/DH Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester.

Vargas takes Miguel Sano's spot on the roster and should see a lot of time at DH with Robbie Grossman also down, making him a worthy play in AL-only leagues. He's hit .243/.289/.429 in 177 at-bats for the Twins this year. He'd been hot of late in Triple-A, hitting .394/.447/.545 in nine games since his previous one-day stint in the majors on Aug. 9.
Aug 21 - 12:57 PM

Twins optioned 1B/DH Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.

The move vacates a roster spot for left-hander Dietrich Enns, who will start for the Twins on Thursday night against the Brewers. Vargas has batted just .243 with a .289 on-base percentage in 51 games this season for Minnesota.

Jul 17 - 11:44 PM

Kennys Vargas (foot) went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in his return to action Sunday against the Astros.

Vargas got the Twins on the board with a no-doubt solo homer off Mike Fiers in the second inning. That was his eighth dinger of the season and boosted his RBI total to 30. In addition, the first baseman is slashing .247/.291/.441 across 48 games played. His homer on Sunday was his first since June 20. Vargas missed Saturday's game after fouling a ball off his foot Friday, but he should be fine moving forward.
Jul 16 - 5:03 PM

X-rays on Kennys Vargas' left foot came back negative.

Vargas fouled a ball off his foot on Friday night but was seen running sprints in the outfield before Saturday's game, so it looks like he's good to go. He shouldn't miss more than a day or two.
Jul 15 - 4:21 PM

Kennys Vargas underwent an X-ray on his injured left foot on Friday.

Vargas left Friday's game after fouling a ball off of his foot and the X-ray was a precautionary measure to rule out any structural damage. It's the same injury that sidelined him during the spring though, so there is a chance that this recurrence could force Vargas to the disabled list.
Jul 15 - 12:26 AM

Kennys Vargas left Friday's game against the Astros with a left foot contusion.

The injury does not appear to be serious and Vargas should be considered day-to-day. Expect him to return to the lineup before the end of the weekend.
Jul 14 - 11:44 PM

Kennys Vargas went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and a run scored in the Twins' come-from-behind, 9-6 victory over the Orioles on Friday.

The Twins spotted their opponent six early runs before getting to work, chipping away with two runs in the fourth before scoring five in the fifth. Two of those fifth-inning runs came on Vargas' two-run double, tying the game at 6-6 before Vargas scored the winning run later in the frame. Vargas was only just recalled from Triple-A on Friday after Joe Mauer went down with an injury, so it would behoove the 26-year-old to produce more games like Friday's if he wants to stick around in the majors.
Jul 8 - 2:12 AM

Vargas was sent down earlier this week but can return because he's replacing an injured player. He'll see starts at first base while Joe Mauer (back) is out.
Jul 7 - 5:08 PM

Twins optioned DH Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.

Vargas simply hasn't hit enough for a guy who offers no defensive value, as he sports a .231/.271/.410 batting line this season. Ehire Adrianza is back from the disabled list to replace him on the roster.
