Kennys Vargas went 3-for-4 with a home run Tuesday, falling just a double short of the cycle, as the Twins came back to edge the Tigers 4-3.
It was the best chance the 275-lb. Vargas may ever get at a cycle, as he legged out his first triple in 180 at-bats in the fourth inning. He followed that with a solo home run in the sixth, his eighth homer of the season, but he grounded out in his final chance at the feat. Still, the three-hit night raises his line to .294/.311/.489 with 36 RBI in 43 games this season. Sep 16 - 11:27 PM

Kennys Vargas hit his seventh home run of the season in Sunday's loss to the Angels.

Vargas was one of the lone bright spots for the Twins on what was otherwise a miserable afternoon. The homer was his seventh in 36 games since being promoted. Vargas has 33 RBI to go with a .303/.321/.493 line.
Sep 7 - 6:09 PM

Kennys Vargas hit his fifth home run of the season in Tuesday's loss to the White Sox.

Vargas connected on a Hector Noesi pitch in the first inning for a two-run homer, his first since August 21. Vargas has done nothing but hit since being promoted at the end of July, batting .315/.338/.492 with 28 RBI and 18 runs scored. He's now hit in 26 of 31 games thus far in his major league career.

Kennys Vargas drove in five runs as the Twins routed the Tigers for the second game in a row in Saturday's win, the first game of a double-header.

The Twins were coming off of a 20-6 drubbing of the Tigers on Friday and kept it going on Saturday. Vargas knocked in a run with a double in the second inning, another run with a sacrifice fly in the third, then cleared the bases with a three-run double in the seventh. He finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon. The 24-year-old rookie continues to perform well, slashing .329/.366/.553 with four home runs and 22 RBI in his first 93 plate appearances as a major leaguer.
Aug 23 - 4:28 PM

Kennys Vargas went 3-for-4 with an opposite field homer off the Indians' Corey Kluber in the Twins' win Thursday.

Despite his willingness to chase pitches off the plate, Vargas is hitting .319 in 19 games since being called up. There's no doubting his power -- he didn't even get all of the ball he hit out today -- but it'll be interesting to see how long he continues to hit for average. He should remain an everyday guy for the Twins through the end of the season.
Aug 21 - 4:21 PM

Kennys Vargas had an RBI single, a double, and a two-run home run in four at-bats, but the Twins were out-slugged by the Royals in a loss on Sunday.

The 24-year-old rookie has performed well since making his big league debut at the start of the month. In 66 plate appearances, he has a .317/.364/.500 slash line with three home runs and 15 RBI.
Aug 17 - 6:31 PM

Twins recalled 1B Kennys Vargas from Double-A New Britain.

Vargas, 23, was batting .281/.360/.472 with 17 home runs and 63 RBI in 97 games this season at the Double-A level. He could see regular starts at DH but is doubtful to hold fantasy value outside of AL-only leagues.
Jul 31 - 11:09 AM

Twins first base prospect Kennys Vargas went 2-for-5 with a home run for Double-A New Britain on Tuesday.

The switch-hitting Vargas has hit a home run in each of his last three games, and five of his last nine, raising his season line to .321/.393/.538 with 12 doubles and 13 home runs. He has 29 walks (11.0 percent) and 42 strikeouts (16.0%) in 263 plate appearances, and could see time in Minnesota when rosters expand in September.
Jun 18 - 8:17 AM

Twins purchased the contract of 1B Kennys Vargas from High-A Fort Myers.

Vargas, 23, batted .267/.344/.468 with 19 home runs and 93 RBI over 125 games this past season. He's a switch-hitter with some power potential, so the Twins elected to add him to the 40-man roster.
