Twins sent 1B Kennys Vargas outright to Triple-A Rochester.
After losing him to the Reds before getting him back, the Twins were able to sneak Vargas through waivers this time around. No longer on the 40-man roster, the 27-year-old will provide some useful depth in the minors. Mar 27 - 1:42 PM

Twins claimed 1B Kennys Vargas off waivers from the Reds.

Vargas had been with the Twins prior to being claimed by the Reds on Thursday, but he'll now head back to Minnesota. It's unclear if he'll crack the Twins' Opening Day roster or be subjected to waivers once again.

Reds claimed 1B Kennys Vargas off waivers from the Twins.

It's not the most ideal landing spot for Vargas, who can't play anywhere but first base and isn't exactly a great defender there. Joey Votto appeared in all 162 games during the 2017 regular season. The 27-year-old Vargas will presumably operate as a switch-hitting bench bat for Cincinnati this year.

Twins designated 1B Kennys Vargas for assignment.

An earlier report stated that Vargas was likely to be placed on waivers before the end of the spring. Now 27, Vargas offers no positional flexibility, but has shown some offensive upside in his left-handed bat. A team looking for a platoon first baseman or some pop off the bench could give Vargas a chance. He'll likely be stashed at Triple-A Rochester if another team doesn't show interest in his offense.

Rhett Bollinger of expects the Twins to place Kennys Vargas on outright waivers at the end of spring training.

Vargas, 27, is out of options, and the signing of Logan Morrison makes it extremely unlikely that he'll make the Opening Day roster. Bollinger writes that the Twins hope to keep Vargas in the organization, and because he's limited defensively to first base, there's a chance that he could clear and report to Triple-A Rochester. A team that's interested in adding some power to their lineup could give him a chance, however, and it shouldn't surprise anyone if Vargas was dealt at some point in the next two weeks.

Kennys Vargas was fitted for a new contact lens in his left eye on Saturday.

Vargas is already seeing results, as he smacked a double on Saturday before adding another hit and two walks on Monday. While he's seeing more clearly these days, there's no clear fit for him with the Twins after the addition of Logan Morrison. There could be a trade in his future.
Feb 27 - 1:26 PM

Kennys Vargas went 1-for-1 with two walks Monday to help the Twins top the Cardinals 5-4.

Vargas went from being in good position to crack the lineup on a fairly regular basis early on to seemingly having no real use to the Twins as a result of the Logan Morrison addition. Any team willing to surrender a decent A-ball reliever could likely acquire him right now. If that doesn't happen, perhaps he'll make the long-rumored jaunt to Asia.

Kennys Vargas will consider making the move to Japan or Korea this winter.

"There’s pretty good money over there," Vargas told Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press. "Then I could come back here. I’m open for whatever life brings to me. Any opportunity, I have to take advantage of it." Vargas also considered Korea two years ago, but the Twins weren't ready to give him up then. He went on to post nice numbers in 47 major league games in 2016, but he slipped to .253/.314/.444 in 241 at-bats this year, leaving him at .252/.311/.437 in 783 at-bats over four seasons in Minnesota. Asia makes a whole lot of sense for him at this point, though he does remain under contractual control with the Twins.

Kennys Vargas went 2-for-2 with a homer and two walks in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.

The homer was in the ninth inning off of Kevin McCarthy with one on and the Royals holding an 11-1 lead. It's garbage time, but it still counts. Vargas is now hitting .249/.311/.438 with 10 homers and 38 runs batted in on the year.

Kennys Vargas went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Thursday against the White Sox.

It'd be nice if the Twins could pick up some sort of bat for the DH spot prior to the postseason roster deadline tonight, though they might have to bring back Miguel Sano as a DH once he returns from injury. Vargas is hitting just .242/.299/.420 in 207 at-bats.

Kennys Vargas clobbered his ninth home run as the Twins topped the White Sox on Tuesday night in Chicago.

Vargas tagged White Sox' rookie right-hander Lucas Giolito for the go-ahead solo shot in the fifth inning which proved to be the difference in the game. He finished the night 1-for-3 and is hitting .245/.296/.440 with nine homers and 31 RBI. He could be worth a look as a matchup play in deeper mixed leagues while Miguel Sano is sidelined.

Twins recalled 1B/DH Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester.

Vargas takes Miguel Sano's spot on the roster and should see a lot of time at DH with Robbie Grossman also down, making him a worthy play in AL-only leagues. He's hit .243/.289/.429 in 177 at-bats for the Twins this year. He'd been hot of late in Triple-A, hitting .394/.447/.545 in nine games since his previous one-day stint in the majors on Aug. 9.

Twins optioned 1B/DH Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.

The move vacates a roster spot for left-hander Dietrich Enns, who will start for the Twins on Thursday night against the Brewers. Vargas has batted just .243 with a .289 on-base percentage in 51 games this season for Minnesota.
