He finished the day 1-for-3 with his sixth homer of the season. He has a .250/.270/.490 slash line in an even 100 plate appearances. He has bounced back and forth between the majors and minors this year and that is likely to continue.

Twins recalled 1B/DH Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester.

Vargas has tallied five home runs and 19 RBI in 24 games this season at the major league level, but the 26-year-old is sitting on a .258 batting average and .280 on-base percentage. He might be sent back down when Jorge Polanco returns from the bereavement list.

Twins optioned 1B/DH Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.

After going hitless in eight plate appearances on Sunday (including four strikeouts), Vargas gets the boot. He was hitting .258/.280/.483 with five homers and 19 RBI in 24 games with the Twins.
May 28 - 10:47 PM

Kennys Vargas finished 2-for-4 with two RBI in the Twins' defeat of the Orioles on Wednesday.

Vargas got the scoring started for Minnesota with a two-run single in the top of the first inning. He also singled again in the top of the fifth. The 26-year-old switch-hitter is slashing .270/.295/.527 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 21 games this season as an active bench bat for the Twins.
May 24 - 4:03 PM

Kennys Vargas notched a pair of doubles in Tuesday's win over the Orioles.

Both two-baggers came off of starter Dylan Bundy. It was the first two-hit game since May 3 for Vargas, who has been struggling of late and finding himself on the bench fairly often as a result.
May 23 - 9:46 PM

Kennys Vargas went 0-for-4 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader and is 5-for-37 with 13 strikeouts and no walks in his last 10 games.

Robbie Grossman and Vargas both got off to fast starts, but neither has contributed in the DH spot of late. It would seem to open the door for ByungHo Park if he can get hot in Triple-A.
May 18 - 4:14 PM

Kennys Vargas clubbed a two-run shot Tuesday in Chicago.

Vargas' blast off of Mike Pelfrey in the fourth inning put the Twins ahead for what turned out to be for good. He's been playing regularly since his recall a couple weeks ago and has fared pretty well with a .282/.310/.615 line and four homers in 11 games. The average will drop, but Vargas should hit some longballs.
May 10 - 12:24 AM

Kennys Vargas clubbed his third home run of the season in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox.

His solo shot off of Matt Barnes in the seventh inning pulled the Twins to within two runs at 7-5. He also added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, finishing the day 1-for-3 with two RBI. Vargas has been impressive since his recall, hitting .294/.324/.588 with three homers and eight RBI.
May 7 - 6:00 PM

Kennys Vargas had a three-run homer and a two-run single in leading the Twins to a 7-4 win over the A's on Wednesday.

Vargas was making his fifth start in the 11 days since he was recalled from Triple-A Rochester. With a 1.053 OPS to date, he figures to get more time at DH with Robbie Grossman having cooled off. Still, he needs to be an everyday player before he's worth considering in mixed leagues.
May 4 - 12:01 AM

Kennys Vargas went 2-for-3 with a homer Tuesday against the Rangers.

ByungHo Park should outhit Vargas given the chance, but that doesn't mean Vargas can't contribute. It just remains to be seen how many at-bats he'll get, what with Robbie Grossman off to a great start in the DH spot.
Apr 26 - 1:06 AM

Twins recalled 1B/DH Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester.

Vargas was batting .227 with two home runs in the early going with Rochester. He doesn't figure to see much playing time with Robbie Grossman faring so well in the designated hitter spot.
Apr 23 - 9:17 AM

Twins optioned 1B/DH Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.

Vargas had a path to the designated hitter spot cleared for him this spring, but he was away for a while for the World Baseball Classic and then got hurt. He should get a shot eventually.
Apr 2 - 2:19 PM

An MRI on Kennys Vargas' bruised left foot showed no structural damage.

Vargas went hitless in a minor league game on Wednesday but came out of it no worse for the wear. He'll get another minor league game under his belt on Friday. The Twins sent down ByungHo Park on Thursday, a sign that they're counting on Vargas to be ready for Opening Day Monday against Kansas City.
Mar 30 - 6:31 PM

Kennys Vargas (foot) went 0-for-3 in minor league action on Wednesday.

After taking his hacks, Vargas indicated that there had been no increase of swelling in his injured left foot and that he felt good. The 26-year-old initially suffered the injury after fouling a ball off his hoof on March 24. His availability for Opening Day has not yet been determined, but that should clarify relatively soon.
