Tucker Barnhart hit a grand slam in the first inning to help the Reds beat the Marlins 6-3 on Tuesday.
Barnhart yanked an inside fastball from Marlins starter Jose Urena over the right field wall for the first grand slam of his career. The homer was his seventh of the season and increased his RBI total from 30 to 34. The 25-year-old catcher has actually filled in admirably for the injured Devin Mesoraco this year, batting .267/.331/.410 through 88 games. Aug 16 - 10:59 PM

Tucker Barnhart went 2-for-3 in a loss to the Marlins on Friday.

Barnhart entered the season as the backup to Devin Mesoraco but has been pressed into service as the Reds' primary backstop all year long. Viewed as a defensive specialist, he has proven himself semi-adequate with the bat as well. His .270/.335/.387 slash line makes him a serviceable option in two-catcher leagues.
Jul 8 - 9:33 PM

Tucker Barnhart launched a three-run home run in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

The Cubbies held a 3-1 advantage heading into the top of the seventh, but Barnhart turned the game around with his three-run homer off Trevor Cahill. That big blow would be his only hit of the game. The home run was Barnhart's third of the season. With a .264/.330/.383 triple-slash, he doesn't make for a particularly useful fantasy option.
Jul 6 - 6:33 PM

Tucker Barnhart went 3-for-4 with a game-winning RBI in the 10th inning as the Reds topped the Nationals 9-4 on Saturday.

With the bases loaded in a 4-4 game, Barnhart knocked his third single of the game to break the tie and start a five-run inning for the Reds. Barnhart also scored two runs in the game and stole a base, his first steal of the year. The backstop, who was pressed into regular duty when Devin Mesoraco went down early in the year, is hitting a passable .268/.336/.376 in 59 games this year.
Jul 3 - 12:35 AM

Tucker Barnhart plated the Reds lone run with an RBI double in Friday's loss to the Pirates.

His run-scoring double off of Arquimedes Caminero in the ninth inning pulled the Reds to within three at 4-1, but that would be as close as they would come. Barnhardt finished the evening 1-for-4. He has been swinging a hot bat in the first month of the season, slashing .333/.385/.417 with four RBI in 39 plate appearances.
Apr 29 - 10:47 PM

Tucker Barnhart hit a walkoff RBI single in the Reds' 6-5 defeat of the Rockies on Wednesday.

Barnhart doubled home Adam Duvall in the bottom of the seventh and then played the role of hero in the bottom of the ninth with a base hit to right field that plated Brandon Phillips easily from third. The backup catcher finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI and is now batting .348/.423/.391 over seven games played (23 at-bats). Devin Mesoraco might be getting more days off in the coming weeks.
Apr 20 - 4:13 PM

Making his first start behind the plate, Tucker Barnhart went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored Thursday against the Phillies.

Barnhart doesn't offer any power at all, but he did get on base at a .324 clip in 242 at-bats while helping to fill in for Devin Mesoraco last year. He's at 1.000 this season.
Apr 7 - 3:56 PM

Tucker Barnhart homered in a second straight game Thursday off the Braves' Shelby Miller.

Barnhart started just twice in his first 13 days on the Reds' roster following Devin Mesoraco's injury, but he's now played back-to-back games and homered both days. He's not really a better hitter than Brayan Pena, but he is the better defender and he might be the superior option to start in Mesoraco's place. Of course, the Reds still think they're going to get Mesoraco back soon, or something.
