After the Reds were shut down by Ian Kennedy for eight innings, Barnhart wasted no time, leading off the ninth with the solo shot off of Herrera. He also singled in the ballgame, finishing the night 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. He has done as nice job at the plate this season, slashing a respectable .259/.342/.381 with four long balls and 20 RBI. Jun 13 - 12:34 AM

Tucker Barnhart went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.

His shot off starter Miles Mikolas was the only run of the game for the Reds. Barnhart has long been one of the best defensive catchers in the game and has steadily turned himself into a solid hitter as well. He owns a .265/.390/.500 slash line with two homers and three RBI in the early going.
Apr 14 - 4:34 PM

Tucker Barnhart hit his first homer of the year Monday off the Phillies' Ben Lively.

Barnhart is off to a 7-for-23 start at the plate, making him perhaps the Reds' best hitter so far. He hit fifth tonight and he might spend more time in the middle of the order until he cools off.
Apr 9 - 11:58 PM

Tucker Barnhart finished 3-for-4 with a double against the Cubs on Monday.

Barnhart doesn't offer much in the way of power, but he batted a respectable .270 last year, and if he can do that again, he should drive in a few more runs this season. He's 4-for-11 right now, though he's still looking for that first RBI.
Apr 2 - 6:49 PM

Tucker Barnhart clubbed his fourth home run of the spring as the Reds fell to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

The veteran backstop tagged Yoshihisa Hirano for the solo shot in the seventh inning. Not that he needed to distance himself from Devin Mesoraco, but all Barnhart has done is hit a cool .435 with four bombs and eight RBI in Cactus League play.
Mar 14 - 8:00 PM

Tucker Barnhart went 2-for-3 and cracked a two-run homer versus the Rangers on Friday.

His blast off reliever Jose Leclerc was his third of the spring. He is slashing .412/.474/.941 in eight games. Barnhart will be the Reds' primary backstop again this season with Devin Mesoraco serving as the higher-paid backup even though he is fully healthy for the first time in years.
Mar 9 - 11:24 PM

Tucker Barnhart cracked a two-run homer as the Reds beat the Indians 6-4 on Friday.

He took reliever Dan Otero deep with a runner aboard in the third inning. Barnhart is set to be the Reds' primary catcher this year with veteran Devin Mesoraco serving as the backup.
Feb 23 - 7:02 PM

Tucker Barnhart will likely serve as the starting catcher for the Reds in 2018.

That would make Devin Mesoraco the defined backup. Barnhart batted .270/.347/.403 with seven home runs over 121 games in 2017 and also earned the NL Gold Glove for his defense behind the plate, beating out Buster Posey and Yadier Molina. Barnhart, 26, also just signed a four-year, $15.5 million contract extension with a $7.5 million club option for 2022. Mesoraco is due over $13 million next year, but he continues to struggle with injuries and he hasn't been particularly productive when healthy as of late.

Tucker Barnhart is not in the Reds starting lineup for Saturday's showdown against the Cubs.

Just a routine day of rest for the backstop. Stuart Turner will start in his place and bat eighth for the Reds against Jon Lester and the Cubs.

Reds signed C Tucker Barnhart to a four-year, $15.5 million contract extension with a $7.5 million club option for 2022.

The buyout on the option is $500,000, so he's guaranteed at least $16 million with his new contract. Barnhart had been set for his first year of arbitration eligibility this offseason, but now he's locked up for at least one and possibly two free agent years. The 26-year-old has hit a solid .264/.336/.389 over the last two seasons for the Reds and has rated very well in terms of defensive metrics both years. The Reds owe Devin Mesoraco $13.125 million in 2018 in his last year under contract, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see them try to unload him this winter.

Tucker Barnhart went 3-for-4 with a homer and five RBI on Sunday in a win over the Mets on Sunday.

His homer was a three-run shot off of Hansel Robles to make it 10-5 Reds in the top of the ninth. For the year, Barnhart is now hitting a respectable .272/.351/.399 for Cincinnati.

Reds placed C Tucker Barnhart on the paternity leave list.

Barnhart will be excused from the club for the next few days to welcome a new member of his family. Chad Wallach has been called up from Triple-A Louisville to help behind the plate.

Tucker Barnhart went 2-for-3 and smoked a three-run homer in a loss to the Padres on Tuesday.

He found a pitch he liked from reliever Jose Torres and deposited it over the center field wall with two aboard in the seventh inning. With Devin Mesoraco injured for most of the last three seasons, Barnhart has taken over as the Reds' primary catcher and has done yeoman's work on both sides of the ball. His stats don't really help his fantasy owners much though. He has a .265 batting average with four home runs and 25 RBI in 250 at-bats.

Tucker Barnhart went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a walk in the Reds' win over the Marlins on Sunday.

Barnhart hit an RBI single in the Reds' two-run second inning and a two-RBI single in the Reds' four-run seventh. He has a .261/.320/.378 batting line with 20 RBI in 75 games this year.
