Erik Goeddel made his spring debut on Thursday, giving up two runs in an inning against the Red Sox.

Goeddel had been sidelined with a strained lat muscle, and it's probably too late now for him to win a spot in the Mets bullpen. He could still be a fine middle man later on.

Erik Goeddel (lat) threw off the mound again Tuesday.

It was his second session since suffering a lat injury in the early part of camp. Goeddel expects to throw another bullpen session before getting into a game.

Erik Goeddel (lat) threw off a mound on Saturday for the first time since sustaining his injury in late February.

Goeddel has been sidelined for the majority of spring camp due to the strained lat muscle and manager Terry Collins said it's "dicey" whether he'll be ready for Opening Day. The 27-year-old right-hander won't appear in a Grapefruit League game for at least eight days. Goeddel is expected to work in middle relief for the Mets in 2016.

Erik Goeddel (lat) has been cleared by doctors and is expected to begin throwing in a few days.

Goeddel has been slowed by a lat injury in the early part of camp, but it shouldn't keep him sidelined for much longer. The 27-year-old is expected to push for a spot in the Mets' bullpen this spring after posting a 2.43 ERA and 34/9 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings last season.
