Kendry Flores is not expected to make his scheduled start Wednesday due to discomfort in his right arm.

It's unclear at this point whether Flores might need a stint on the disabled list, but it doesn't look to be a serious issue at the moment. The Marlins haven't revealed who will take the ball versus the Pirates on Wednesday in Flores' place.

Kendry Flores was knocked around in a losing effort against the Phillies on Friday, surrendering five runs on seven hits over his five frames.

Flores punched out five and walked two on the evening. It was the first major league start for the 23-year-old right-hander, and just his seventh appearance overall. He started the night off with three scoreless innings before the Phillies broke through for four runs in the fourth. He'll look for better results on Wednesday against the Pirates.

Marlins acquired RHP Kendry Flores and RHP Luis Castillo from the Giants for INF Casey McGehee.

The 23-year-old hurler has a good feel for pitching and pinpoint command and is coming off a 2014 campaign where he registered a 4.09 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 112/32 K/BB ratio in 105 2/3 frames at High-A San Jose. He should begin the 2014 season at Double-A.

Giants prospect RHP Kendry Flores was dominant on Sunday, striking out 13 batters while allowing two runs in seven innings for High-A San Jose.

The 22-year-old yielded only three hits in the outing (though two of them left the yard) and also walked a batter. Flores was shaky over the season's first two months, posting a 5.94 ERA, .827 opponents' OPS (a product of nine home runs allowed) and 49-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 50 innings (10 starts). However, the right-hander has taken a step in the right direction in his three June starts, registering a 2.04 ERA and 27-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 17 2/3 innings.

Giants prospect RHP Kendry Flores dominated on Tuesday, allowing three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in six shutout innings for High-A San Jose.

Flores, 22, was signed by the Giants in 2009 and spent four years in the system before making his full-season debut last year. Making 22 starts for Low-A Augusta, Flores posted a 2.73 ERA and stellar 137/17 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 141.2 innings. Pitching in the hitter-friendly California League this year, the right-hander owns a 3.00 ERA and 18/3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 18 innings. Flores is still a few years away from reaching the major leagues, but his excellent command, age and spot on the Giants' 40-man roster should help him begin to move up the ladder this season.
