Flores, a non-roster invitee this spring, is currently dealing with some shoulder discomfort. The 24-year-old made one start with the Marlins last season and posted a 4.15 ERA and 80/39 K/BB ratio over 102 innings in the minors.

Flores has spent the past two seasons in the Marlins organization. The 24-year-old right-hander made one start with the big league club last season, walking three over three shutout frames. In a larger sample size, he held a 4.15 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 80/39 K/BB ratio over 102 innings while splitting time across three levels in the minors during the 2016 campaign. He figures to serve as organizational depth for the Cardinals moving forward.

It was originally reported that Flores was placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain, but because he was up as the 26th man during a doubleheader he'll be placed on the minor league DL instead. It will save the Marlins a little cash.

He exited Saturday's start against the Nationals after only three innings. It was his first major league appearance of 2016. The Marlins haven't announced the corresponding roster move. Flores was 1-1 with a 2.59 ERA in six starts for Triple-A New Orleans before his promotion on Saturday.

He made it through three scoreless innings before being lifted. Flores was called up to start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. This probably wasn't what he had in mind for his Marlins debut in 2016. Jose Urena replaced Flores at the start of the fourth inning. The Marlins are calling Flores day-to-day.

Kendry Flores was knocked around in a losing effort against the Phillies on Friday, surrendering five runs on seven hits over his five frames.

Flores punched out five and walked two on the evening. It was the first major league start for the 23-year-old right-hander, and just his seventh appearance overall. He started the night off with three scoreless innings before the Phillies broke through for four runs in the fourth. He'll look for better results on Wednesday against the Pirates.
