Athletics recalled RHP Angel Castro from Triple-A Nashville.

The 32-year-old went 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in a four-game stint with the A's earlier this season. He's done a nice job at Nashville, limiting opponents to a .203 batting average in 20 innings. A roster spot opened up for Castro when Oakland placed Sean Doolittle (shoulder) back on the disabled list.

Castro posted a 3.79 ERA and 20/3 K/BB ratio over 19 innings for Nashville while splitting time between the rotation and bullpen. He'll provide the much-maligned A's bullpen with another option.

Castro will serve as organizational depth this season for St. Louis after posting a decent 3.48 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 116 1/3 innings last summer for the Dodgers' Triple-A club. The right-hander turned 31 years old this winter.

Castro, 31, had a 3.48 ERA and 91/37 K/BB ratio over 116 1/3 innings this past season with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate. He has never pitched in the majors and will likely function as rotation insurance in the minors.
