Mike Wright allowed two runs over seven innings of work in a win over the Tigers on Saturday.
Wright walked three while giving up just three hits, with Miguel Cabrera's two-run homer counting as the only damage against him. It was a nice rebound after he surrendered five runs on 10 hits his last time out. It's been more bad than good through seven appearances, including six starts, for Wright, who now owns a 5.20 ERA and 1.35 WHIP on the year. He'll look to string a few good ones together when he takes on the Angels on Friday. May 14 - 10:01 PM

Mike Wright was knocked around in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Athletics, surrendering five runs on 10 hits over five-plus innings of work

Wright struck out three while walking two on the afternoon. He allowed single runs in the second, third and fifth innings before the A's broke through for a pair and chased Wright in the sixth. With a 5.83 ERA and 1.47 WHIP, he'll need to start turning things around quick or his spot in the O's rotation could be at risk.
May 7 - 4:15 PM

Mike Wright pitched well in a no-decision against the White Sox on Friday, racking up six strikeouts over six innings of two-run ball.

The right-hander scattered five hits and a pair of walks in the contest. He departed with a 3-2 lead, but his bullpen was unable to protect his victory. He'll look to further improve upon his 5.40 ERA and 1.29 WHIP when he does battle against the Yankees at home on Wednesday.
Apr 29 - 10:26 PM

Mike Wright gave up five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Royals.

Things were going relatively well for the 26-year-old right-hander until the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Royals struck for four runs against Wright and O's reliever Dylan Bundy. Wright has a rough 6.23 ERA in 17 1/3 innings (three starts) this season. He probably isn't long for a spot in the major league rotation.
Apr 24 - 5:06 PM

Mike Wright started slow but finished strong Tuesday, allowing three runs over six innings in a loss to the Blue Jays.

Wright didn't look like he was going to get through five after he permitted five hits, two walks and three runs in innings two and three. He settled in after that, though, and gutted it out through six to earn a quality start. Wright isn't a great bet to last a long time in the rotation with Kevin Gausman's (shoulder) impending return, but he'll get another shot against the Royals this weekend.
Apr 19 - 10:11 PM

Mike Wright didn't pitch well Tuesday but was credited with a win anyway, yielding four runs over five frames in a 9-5 victory over the Red Sox.

Wright looked like he might settle in after serving up a two-run shot to David Ortiz in the first inning, but he then allowed two more runs in the fifth on two hits and a wild pitch. Wright was throwing hard Tuesday and did strike out four, but he needed 96 pitches to cover five unimpressive frames. Vance Worley didn't pitch well in his first start, either, so Wright could remain in the rotation when Kevin Gausman (shoulder) returns later this month. His next chance should come this weekend in Texas.
Apr 12 - 11:42 PM

Saturday's game between the Orioles and Rays has been postponed due to rain.

It's been raining/snowing all day in Baltimore with no end in sight. No makeup date has been announced though it's possible the teams could play a doubleheader when the Rays head to Baltimore for a series in late June. Mike Wright and Drew Smyly had been scheduled to pitch. The Rays are going with Jake Odorizzi on Sunday while the Orioles will feature Vance Worley.
Apr 9 - 8:15 PM

Mike Wright has been named the Orioles' fourth starter.

Wright posted a 4.79 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings this spring. He won't have a tight hold on that rotation spot and isn't worth consideration in standard fantasy leagues. The right-hander posted a 6.04 ERA in 44 2/3 frames last season for the O's.
Mar 31 - 12:49 PM

Mike Wright limited the Red Sox to one run in five innings to earn the win in a 5-3 game Monday.

With Vance Worley and Tyler Wilson having shorter outings lately, Wright seems like the best bet to fill in if Kevin Gausman has to miss a start or two before returning from the DL. Of course, that'd be set up for a short stay, but as much as Miguel Gonzalez has struggled, the door is still open for Wright to get a permanent spot soon.
Mar 28 - 4:49 PM

Mike Wright yielded three runs in four innings Tuesday in a loss to a Twins split-squad.

Wright is back in the running for a rotation spot with Kevin Gausman likely DL bound, but he didn't help himself today. He's 1-2 with a 5.74 ERA this spring. As is, Vance Worley looks like the leading candidate to fill in for Gausman.
Mar 22 - 4:18 PM

Mike Wright pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two, against the Braves on Tuesday.

Wright lost his path to a rotation spot with the Yovani Gallardo signing, but he's still next in line should an injury strike. To stay there, he needs to outpitch Vance Worley and Tyler Wilson this spring.
Mar 1 - 4:53 PM

MASN's Steve Melewski lists Mike Wright, Chris Jones, Tyler Wilson and Vance Worley as candidates to fill out the rotation if the Orioles don't add another starter.

Yovani Gallardo is the top starter available in free agency but he's tied to draft pick compensation and the Orioles are hesitant to give up the No. 14 overall pick. Doug Fister is also on the market but he's coming off an injury-plagued year in 2015. Wright would be the favorite for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation if the Orioles decide to stand pat. He won two of his first three starts last season but faded down the stretch by losing five of his last six decisions.

Jan 23 - 10:34 PM

Mike Wright was lit up for six runs in three-plus innings by the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Wright opened his major league career with 14 1/3 scoreless innings in his first two starts in May. Since then, he's given up 30 runs in 28 1/3 innings. He certainly isn't making a case for a spot in Baltimore's rotation next year.

Mike Wright was hit hard in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday, giving up four runs on four hits in five-plus innings.

Wright walked two and struck out two in the ballgame. Lorenzo Cain was responsible for inflicting most of the damage against him, blasting a pair of solo home runs. The 25-year-old has struggled in his 39 2/3 innings with the Orioles this season, registering a 5.45 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. He'll once again head in search of his third victory when he takes on the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Mike Wright struggled in a losing effort against the Blue Jays on Saturday, surrendering three runs on seven hits over his four innings of work.

Wright struck out four and walked one on the afternoon. Jose Bautista was responsible for most of the damage against him, blasting a solo homer in the first inning and an RBI double in the third. He'll carry a 5.19 ERA and 1.44 WHIP into Friday's start against the Royals.
