Orioles placed RHP Mike Wright on the 15-day disabled list with a right calf strain.
Wright sustained the injury in Friday's game against the Tigers. He should be ready to return to the O's bullpen in mid-August. Jorge Rondon was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. Aug 1 - 3:33 PM

Mike Wright was forced to leave Friday's game against the Tigers with a left calf cramp.

Wright was called in early to replace a struggling Wei-Yin Chen, then was forced to become a spectator himself after working a scoreless inning. He should be considered day-to-day.

Orioles recalled RHP Mike Wright from Triple-A Norfolk.

He's taking Tommy Hunter's spot on the roster and will pitch out of the bullpen. Wright holds a 5.16 ERA over 29 2/3 innings for the big club this season.
Jul 31 - 4:51 PM

Orioles optioned RHP Mike Wright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Wright was likely on his way out of the Orioles rotation anyways with Kevin Gausman returning on Saturday, but Friday's clunker against the Blue Jays may have been the final nail in his coffin. He'll continue to serve as organizational rotation depth.
Jun 20 - 11:19 AM

Mike Wright was knocked around in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays, surrendering four runs on three hits in just 1 1/3 innings.

Wright struggled badly with his command, issuing four walks while striking out one in the abbreviated outing. Two of his walks came with the bases loaded in the second inning, leading to his departure. With a 5.16 ERA on the season, it's unlikely that Wright remains in the O's rotation much longer.
Jun 19 - 10:37 PM

Mike Wright failed to give the Orioles depth in Sunday's loss to the Yankees, yielding five runs over four-plus innings.

Wright was called up from Triple-A to fill in for the ailing Miguel Gonzalez (groin). He pitched well enough through four innings, but had already thrown close to 100 pitches at that point. The fifth inning would be his undoing. Wright walked three straight batters to open the frame before giving way to reliever Brian Matusz, who subsequently allowed all three of those runs to score. In four starts earlier this season, Wright went 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA. He makes for a decent option in streaming formats. A road start against the Blue Jays is up next on the schedule.
Jun 14 - 5:32 PM

Mike Wright will start Sunday's game against the Yankees as long as he doesn't pitch Saturday.

The Orioles called him up from Triple-A Norfolk Thursday to replace injured starter Miguel Gonzalez (groin). Wright pitched well in his first taste of the big leagues earlier this year, going 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA across four starts. The right-hander fanned 16 hitters over that stretch, but also allowed four home runs.
Jun 13 - 4:54 PM

Orioles recalled RHP Mike Wright from Triple-A Norfolk.

Wright will take the rotation spot left vacant by Miguel Gonzalez, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained right groin. Wright, 25, owns an impressive 2.96 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 16/4 K/BB ratio in 24 1/3 innings (four starts) this season at the major league level. He's a decent fantasy streaming candidate.
Jun 11 - 3:11 PM

Orioles optioned RHP Mike Wright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Wright was terrific in his first two outings and not so good his last two times out and that was enough to get him demoted with Bud Norris ready to return. He could get another shot at some point later this season.
Jun 5 - 3:07 PM

Mike Wright took his first major league loss Tuesday, allowing five runs over five innings against the Astros.

Wright gave up eight hits, including two home runs, while walking one in the loss. It was easily his worst start since being promoted, as Wright had allowed just three runs total in his first three starts with the O's. Wright dropped to 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with the loss. Wright will try to get back on track Sunday at the Indians.
Jun 2 - 11:49 PM

Mike Wright picked up his second victory of the season on Thursday, limiting the White Sox to three runs on six hits over five frames in the second game of their doubleheader.

Wright struck out two on the afternoon without issuing a walk. All of the damage against him came via the long ball, with Adam Eaton belting a solo home run in the first inning and Adam LaRoche connecting on a two-run blast in the fifth. Wright now sports a 1.40 ERA on the season and should continue to hold a spot in the rotation while Bud Norris gets himself back on track.
May 28 - 9:36 PM

Despite pitching seven innings of shutout baseball against the Marlins on Saturday, Mike Wright came away with a no-decision, as the Orioles lost 1-0 in 13 innings.

Making his second major league start in a row, Wright followed up a fantastic outing against the Angels with another strong showing versus the Marlins. He has not allowed a run in either of his starts thus far. Despite the brilliant pitching, Wright wouldn't factor into the decision, as the game would remain 0-0 until the 13th inning, when Martin Prado hit a walk-off RBI single. Wright struck out four, walked three and now has a 10/3 K/BB ratio in 14 1/3 innings. Plus, the lovely 0.00 ERA. The seventh-ranked prospect in the Orioles' system by, Wright had posted a 2.64 ERA and 3-0 record in six starts for Triple-A Norfolk prior to his promotion. He's making it very difficult for the Orioles to take him out of the rotation.
May 23 - 11:11 PM

Mike Wright was terrific in his major league debut, blanking the Angels over 7 1/3 innings en route to a win on Sunday.

Neither Bud Norris nor Chris Tillman was healthy enough to pitch on Sunday, so Wright stepped in and was magnificent. He scattered only four hits while issuing zero walks and striking out six. The performance didn't exactly come out of nowhere, as he was pitching well at Triple-A Norfolk and is considered one of the Orioles' best prospects. Sunday's outing was just a spot start, but the Orioles have a lot to consider given how poorly Norris in particular has pitched this year.
May 17 - 4:00 PM

Mike Wright will start Sunday against the Angels.

With Bud Norris (bronchitis) and Chris Tillman (back) out, Wright will make his major league debut Sunday at home. The 25-year-old right-hander went 3-0 with a 2.64 ERA in six starts for Triple-A Norfolk before getting promoted on Wednesday. Wright is's seventh-ranked Orioles prospect.
May 16 - 10:50 PM

Orioles recalled RHP Mike Wright from Triple-A Norfolk.

Wright, 25, was off to a great start with Norfolk, boasting a 2.64 ERA and 30/9 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings. He'll work in long relief with the O's and will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.
