Orioles optioned RHP Mike Wright to Triple-A Norfolk.
Wright was hammered yet again in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays which proved to be the final nail in his coffin. Yovani Gallardo is expected to return from the disabled list soon and should fill his spot in the O's rotation. Wright will continue to provide rotation depth at the minor league level. Mike Wright was all wrong Friday against the Blue Jays, as he was charged with eight runs in just 3 2/3 innings.

Wright gave up four runs through three innings before he was pulled in the middle of a seven-run fourth inning for Toronto. Ubaldo Jimenez then poured some extra gasoline on the fire. Wright allowed six hits (including three homers) and walked one in the loss and now owns a 6.12 ERA on the year. The Orioles might have to look in another direction soon.
Jun 17 - 10:18 PM

Mike Wright struggled in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon, allowing four runs on six hits over his five frames.

Wright actually departed with a 4-3 lead and in line for his fourth victory, but the O's bullpen would surrender that lead the next inning. It's unclear if Wright, who owns a 5.31 ERA and 1.48 WHIP, will make another start in the Orioles rotation, or if he'll head back to the bullpen.
Jun 11 - 4:16 PM

Mike Wright tossed an unexpected gem Monday, allowing just one unearned run over seven innings in a 4-1 victory over the Royals.

Wright was bumped from the rotation last week but certainly made the most of his spot start Monday. He allowed just five hits and two walks on the night while striking out four in his best performance of the season. It's possible the showing has earned Wright another turn, depending on whether the O's think Yovani Gallardo (shoulder) is ready. He could face the Blue Jays in Toronto this weekend.
Jun 6 - 11:13 PM

Mike Wright will make a spot start for the Orioles on Monday against the Royals.

Wright had just been bumped from the starting rotation last week and was recalled to work out of the bullpen, but he'll get another opportunity with the club needing a starter on Monday. He owns a troublesome 5.88 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 36/16 K/BB ratio over 49 innings this season.
Jun 5 - 7:04 PM

Orioles recalled RHP Mike Wright from Triple-A Norfolk.

He was just bumped from the rotation Thursday, but Wright is back a day later with Darren O'Day (hamstring) going down. He'll presumably work in long relief.
Jun 3 - 4:14 PM

Orioles optioned RHP Mike Wright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Brian Duensing will take his spot on the 25-man roster. Wright imploded Wednesday against Boston, allowing seven hits and six earned runs over 2 2/3 innings. The right-hander is winless in his last four starts and carries an ugly 5.88 ERA across 49 innings this year. He'll be back in the Orioles' rotation at some point.
Jun 2 - 4:32 PM

Mike Wright gave up four homers and six runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Wright has decent stuff, but he's probably not cut out for pitching in the AL East and Camden Yards; he has allowed 18 homers in 93 1/3 innings as a major leaguer. The Orioles could send him back to Triple-A when Yovani Gallardo comes off the DL.
Jun 1 - 11:25 PM

Mike Wright struggled in a no-decision against the Indians on Friday, allowing three runs on six hits and a pair of walks over 4 2/3 innings.

Wright struck out four on the evening. The O's offense staked him to an early 3-0 lead, but he let the Indians chip away with single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to even things up. He'll look to improve upon a disappointing 5.05 ERA and 1.40 WHIP when he does battle against the hot-hitting Red Sox on Wednesday.
May 27 - 11:17 PM

Mike Wright allowed two runs over seven innings of work in a win over the Tigers on Saturday.

Wright walked three while giving up just three hits, with Miguel Cabrera's two-run homer counting as the only damage against him. It was a nice rebound after he surrendered five runs on 10 hits his last time out. It's been more bad than good through seven appearances, including six starts, for Wright, who now owns a 5.20 ERA and 1.35 WHIP on the year. He'll look to string a few good ones together when he takes on the Angels on Friday.
May 14 - 10:01 PM

Mike Wright was knocked around in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Athletics, surrendering five runs on 10 hits over five-plus innings of work

Wright struck out three while walking two on the afternoon. He allowed single runs in the second, third and fifth innings before the A's broke through for a pair and chased Wright in the sixth. With a 5.83 ERA and 1.47 WHIP, he'll need to start turning things around quick or his spot in the O's rotation could be at risk.
May 7 - 4:15 PM

Mike Wright pitched well in a no-decision against the White Sox on Friday, racking up six strikeouts over six innings of two-run ball.

The right-hander scattered five hits and a pair of walks in the contest. He departed with a 3-2 lead, but his bullpen was unable to protect his victory. He'll look to further improve upon his 5.40 ERA and 1.29 WHIP when he does battle against the Yankees at home on Wednesday.
Apr 29 - 10:26 PM

Mike Wright gave up five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Royals.

Things were going relatively well for the 26-year-old right-hander until the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Royals struck for four runs against Wright and O's reliever Dylan Bundy. Wright has a rough 6.23 ERA in 17 1/3 innings (three starts) this season. He probably isn't long for a spot in the major league rotation.
Apr 24 - 5:06 PM

Mike Wright started slow but finished strong Tuesday, allowing three runs over six innings in a loss to the Blue Jays.

Wright didn't look like he was going to get through five after he permitted five hits, two walks and three runs in innings two and three. He settled in after that, though, and gutted it out through six to earn a quality start. Wright isn't a great bet to last a long time in the rotation with Kevin Gausman's (shoulder) impending return, but he'll get another shot against the Royals this weekend.
Apr 19 - 10:11 PM

Mike Wright didn't pitch well Tuesday but was credited with a win anyway, yielding four runs over five frames in a 9-5 victory over the Red Sox.

Wright looked like he might settle in after serving up a two-run shot to David Ortiz in the first inning, but he then allowed two more runs in the fifth on two hits and a wild pitch. Wright was throwing hard Tuesday and did strike out four, but he needed 96 pitches to cover five unimpressive frames. Vance Worley didn't pitch well in his first start, either, so Wright could remain in the rotation when Kevin Gausman (shoulder) returns later this month. His next chance should come this weekend in Texas.
