Orioles optioned RHP Odrisamer Despaigne to Triple-A Triple-A Norfolk.

Despaigne was in the majors for less than 24 hours. He took a pounding Saturday against Houston, allowing five hits, four runs and two walks in three innings. Despaigne now carries a 5.60 ERA over 27 1/3 big league innings this season.
Aug 20 - 11:25 PM

Orioles recalled RHP Odrisamer Despaigne from Triple-A Norfolk.

He'll absorb the roster spot left by Matt Wieters, who left the team for a few days to go on paternity leave. Despaigne had mixed results during his last stint in Baltimore, logging a 4.81 ERA over 15 outings.

Tyler Wilson was also sent out as the Orioles welcome Wade Miley and Steve Pearce into the fold. Despaigne has allowed eight runs over his last four appearances and owns a 4.81 ERA and 15/13 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings on the year.

Despaigne, formerly with the Padres, has posted a 3.59 ERA and 53/20 K/BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings over 12 starts in Triple-A this season. The 29-year-old will fill the long relief role with Vance Worley (groin) headed to the disabled list.

Orioles optioned RHP Odrisamer Despaigne to Triple-A Norfolk.

Despaigne surrendered 19 hits and 10 earned runs in 13 1/3 innings this spring in the Grapefruit League. He'll work out of the starting rotation at Norfolk.
Mar 28 - 10:37 AM

Orioles acquired RHP Odrisamer Despaigne from the Padres for RHP Jean Cosme.

Despaigne posted an ugly 5.80 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and 69/32 K/BB ratio in 125 2/3 innings last season for the Padres, but he carries three minor league options and gives the O's some much-needed organizational pitching depth. The 28-year-old right-hander will probably open the 2016 season at Triple-A Norfolk, unless he can secure a long-relief role with a strong showing this spring. He does have experience as a starter too.

Odrisamer Despaigne turned in an unimpressive performance in Sunday's loss to the Giants, surrendering four runs on five hits over just 3 1/3 innings.

This was Despaigne's first start in over a month. It didn't go well. How poorly did it go? He held a 3-0 advantage entering the bottom of the second inning. In the frame, Ehire Adrianza notched an RBI single, but that paled in comparison to what would come: A three-run homer by Giants starting pitcher Mike Leake. Ouch. Despaigne will likely return to the bullpen, now, to lick the wounds that a 5.79 ERA and 1.38 WHIP tend to inflict on the soul.

The Padres have moved Odrisamer Despaigne to the bullpen.

Despaigne was tagged for seven runs over five innings in his last outing to push his ERA up to 5.11 for the season, so the move isn't surprising. Colin Rea will replace him in the rotation.

Odrisamer Despaigne was destroyed in Thursday afternoon's loss to the Brewers, yielding seven runs on nine hits over five innings.

Yikes. The 47-63 Brewers tossed up a run in the first inning, then unleashed back-to-back three-run frames covering the third and fourth innings. Despaigne struck out just one against three walks and now holds a bloated 5.11 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. A home start against the Reds awaits him on the schedule.

Odrisamer Despaigne supplied a quality start in Saturday's win over the Marlins, allowing three runs on five hits over six-plus innings.

Despaigne allowed two runs in the fifth inning on a pair of RBI singles, with an additional run scoring against him in the seventh to finish off his line. On the evening, he struck out five and walked one. While this start was fine, Despaigne's had his issues with consistency throughout the season and currently holds a 4.75 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. A road start against the Brewers is up next on the schedule as the Padres try to remain a relevant baseball team.

Odrisamer Despaigne pitched well in Sunday's victory over the Marlins, hurling six innings of one-run ball.

The right-hander allowed just six hits while striking out five on the afternoon. The only damage against him came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ichiro Suzuki in the fifth inning. He'll look to build off of this strong effort when he brings a 4.76 ERA into a rematch against these same Marlins in Miami on Saturday.

Odrisamer Despaigne was hit around to the tune of six runs in five innings, taking the loss versus the Giants on Tuesday.

Despaigne allowed two home runs: a solo shot to Hunter Pence in the second inning and a three-run job to Brandon Crawford in the fourth. He gave up seven hits overall while walking two and striking out only one batter. The right-hander's inability to miss bats has hurt him this year, as he has a miserable 4.98 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and a 48/19 K/BB ratio over 90 1/3 innings. Despaigne will try to get back in the win column for the first time since May 31 when he finishes a homestand against the Marlins.
