Odrisamer Despaigne pitched well in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing just one run on four hits over his five frames.
The right-hander punched out three and walked just one on the afternoon. He has done a serviceable job as a replacement for the injured Brandon Morrow, posting a 4.75 ERA and 46/17 K/BB ratio in 83 1/3 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column on Friday when he takes on the Rangers in Texas. Jul 4 - 4:57 PM

Odrisamer Despaigne struggled in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks on Sunday, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Despaigne punched out six on the afternoon and didn't issue a walk. All of the damage against him came via the long ball, with Welington Castillo blasting a three-run homer in the second inning and David Peralta adding a solo shot in the third. Despaigne will carry a disappointing 4.94 ERA into Saturday's start against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
Jun 28 - 9:33 PM

Odrisamer Despaigne struggled early in Wednesday's loss to the A's, surrendering four runs in the first inning and ultimately lasting six-plus innings.

Despaigne ran into trouble out of the gate, allowing hits to five of the first seven batters. The big blow in the inning came when Billy Butler socked a three-run homer off the 28-year-old right-hander. He allowed just two over his next five-plus innings, but the damage was already done. Despaigne had tossed quality starts in four of his last five outings, but Wednesday's game was certainly not that. Until Brandon Morrow is able to return to the rotation, Despaigne will continue to hold value in deeper NL-only formats, though owners shouldn't expect miracles with his 4.66 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 35/14 K/BB ratio in 67 2/3 innings. A road start against the Giants is up next on the docket.
Jun 18 - 1:10 AM

Odrisamer Despaigne allowed two runs -- one earned -- in 6 1/3 innings Friday in a no-decision against the Dodgers.

Despaigne almost matched Clayton Kershaw, with only an unearned run doing him in. He's turned in quality starts in four of his last five outings, and it looks like he'll be of use in NL-only leagues for a while longer following Brandon Morrow's setback.
Jun 13 - 2:12 AM

Odrisamer Despaigne took a loss, yielding four runs in six innings as the Padres dropped Sunday's game against the Reds 4-0.

All of the damage done against Despaigne came via the bat of Jay Bruce. He hit a solo homer in the second inning and a three-run shot in the sixth, accounting for all four runs. Despaigne served up nine hits overall, but walked none and struck out three. The 28-year-old has pitched better as of late, but is a risky proposition outside of NL-only leagues. Despaigne will bring a 4.72 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 28/12 K/BB ratio over 55 1/3 innings into a home start against the Dodgers.
Jun 7 - 3:43 PM

Odrisamer Despaigne delivered another terrific outing in Sunday's victory over the Pirates, allowing just one run on seven hits over eight strong innings.

The right-hander racked up four strikeouts on the evening while allowing just one base on balls. The lone blemish on his evening was a solo homer off the bat of Gregory Polanco in the eighth inning. After two disastrous outings to begin the season, Despaigne appears to have righted the ship and will look to further improve upon a 4.56 ERA and 1.26 when he squares off against the Reds in Cincinnati on Saturday.
Jun 1 - 12:05 AM

Odrisamer Despaigne held the Angels scoreless over six innings of work but got a no-decision as the Padres won in 10 innings on Tuesday.

Despaigne scattered five hits -- all singles -- without issuing a walk and striking out five. The Angels only had a runner reach scoring position three times and they, obviously, failed each time. Despaigne's most recent two starts have been much better than his first two starts after rejoining the rotation in early May but he still carries a lackluster 5.23 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP and a 21/11 K/BB ratio in 41 1/3 innings. Despaigne matches up against the Pirates at home in his next start.
May 27 - 1:38 AM

Odrisamer Despaigne yielded two runs on six hits across six innings in a 3-0 loss to the Cubs on Thursday.

Across the way, Kyle Hendricks was painting a complete game shutout, so Despaigne had little chance in this one. He didn't pitch poorly, striking out four and walking two. Now 2-3 with a 6.11 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, Despaigne is just keeping Brandon Morrow's spot warm.
May 21 - 11:28 PM

Odrisamer Despaigne was pounded for seven runs in three innings by the Nationals on Friday.

Despaigne had a couple of nice starts last month, but he's been positively lit up his last two times out. Maybe some of it is the irregular schedule. His previous start, when he gave up eight runs, came on eight days' rest. This one came on seven days' rest. Despaigne might head back to the bullpen now or possibly even Triple-A.
May 16 - 1:14 AM

Padres manager Bud Black announced Sunday that he'll use Monday's off day to skip struggling starter Odrisamer Despaigne in the team's rotation.

He'll keep the other four starters on their regular rest, with Despaigne's spot coming up again on Saturday against the Nationals instead of Wednesday where he had been scheduled.

May 10 - 7:12 PM

Odrisamer Despaigne was roughed up in a spot start against the Diamondbacks Thursday, allowing eight runs on 10 hits in five innings.

Despaigne had a 1.47 ERA in 18 1/3 innings across three starts on 4/20. The Padres moved him to the bullpen where he had two scoreless appearances. He walked to the mound tonight with a 1.37 ERA and he walked from it with a 5.13 ERA. With an 11/7 K/BB rate, disaster always was, and always will be, lurking right around the corner.
May 8 - 12:36 AM

Odrisamer Despaigne has been moved to the bullpen.

Ian Kennedy (hamstring) is due to return from the disabled list Saturday, so Despaigne loses his spot despite pitching really well in three outings. Despaigne will definitely get another shot the next time there's an opening in the Padres' rotation, but he can probably be dropped in standard mixed leagues for now.
Apr 23 - 1:15 PM

Odrisamer Despaigne picked up his second win of the season against the Rockies on Monday, limiting them to two runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Both runs scored in the fourth inning, when the Rockies enjoyed a pair of RBI singles, but they were too far behind for it to matter at that point. Despaigne gave up six hits and walked two while striking out five on the night. The right-hander has been excellent in three starts, owning a 1.47 ERA with a 0.34 WHIP and a 9/4 K/BB ratio in 18 1/3 innings. Despaigne will have to work against a tough Dodgers lineup at home in his next start.
Apr 21 - 12:06 AM

Odrisamer Despaigne stymied the Diamondbacks over seven innings, allowing only one run, in Tuesday's win.

Despaigne is filling in for the injured Ian Kennedy and pitched admirably, limiting the D'Backs to two hits and two walks while striking out three. Mark Trumbo knocked in the only run with a fourth-inning double. Despaigne should be ignored for fantasy purposes as his next start will come against the Rockies at Coors Field.
Apr 15 - 12:43 AM

Odrisamer Despaigne was perfect for 4 2/3 innings in relief of an injured Ian Kennedy against the Giants on Thursday.

Manager Bud Black confirmed after the game that Despaigne would start if Kennedy misses time with his hamstring injury. Kennedy, though, has yet to be ruled out for Tuesday. Despaigne has some value in NL-only leagues either way.
