Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez has a rough 4.09 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 73/44 K/BB ratio in 121 innings this year for Texas. He will pitch in relief in his return to the Rangers' active roster.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

The move clears a roster spot for Chi Chi Gonzalez, who will start in place of Cole Hamels (groin) on Thursday afternoon against the Twins. Martinez was lit up for seven runs (four earned) over 3 2/3 innings on Wednesday.

Nick Martinez suffered a loss on Wednesday after surrendering seven runs (four earned) in 3 2/3 innings to the Twins.

Martinez gave up three home runs: a solo shot to Aaron Hicks in the first inning, a two-run jack to Miguel Sano in the third, and a three-run homer to Sano in the fourth. Shortstop Elvis Andrus committed an error in the fourth which helped prolong the inning ahead of Sano's blast. Overall, Martinez yielded 11 hits, walked none, and struck out four. The young right-hander has a 4.09 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and a 73/44 K/BB ratio over 121 innings. He'll try to rebound next week in a home start against the Mariners.

Nick Martinez allowed just one run and one hit over five innings to pick up the win against the Astros on Wednesday.

The quick hook seemed like a good idea; Martinez threw 86 pitches in five and might have had another inning in him, but the Rangers were better off going to the pen, even if it didn't work out in the sixth (two-thirds of the three-run lead was given away before things calmed down). Martinez is now 7-6 with a 3.91 ERA, but that's mostly residue of his hot start. He's not recommended now.

Nick Martinez allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings in Friday's 6-3 win over the Giants.

Martinez allowed runs in the first and second, but managed to hold the Giants off the board the rest of the way. He struck out four and walked a pair en route to his first win since way back on June 9. The 24-year-old has faded since a hot start to the season and now owns a 4.01 ERA and 68/41 K/BB ratio over 112 1/3 innings. Derek Holland (shoulder) could take Martinez's rotation spot before long, but he lines up for a start against the Astros next week at home.

Nick Martinez struggled in Sunday's loss to the Angels, yielding four runs on six hits over five-plus innings.

Two of the six hits Martinez allowed left the ballpark, as Mike Trout launched a solo shot off the pitcher in the first inning and C.J. Cron touched him up for another solo homer in the fourth. He was pulled after walking Conner Gillaspie to open the sixth inning. The walk was one of three he issued on the day, to go against five strikeouts. The 24-year-old right-hander's made two starts since being recalled from Triple-A on July 20 and has allowed 11 runs in nine innings during this second crack at the rotation. That his ERA still sits at 3.99 is a testament to how well he was pitching when the team first called him up. At 47-50, the Rangers should be motivated to find another starter at the trade deadline unless they've completely given up on the season.

Nick Martinez surrendered seven runs in four innings but lucked into a no-decision as the Rangers came back and ultimately lost in walk-off fashion to the Rockies on Monday.

The Rockies plated three runs in the first inning and four in the second, capped off by a two-run Troy Tulowitzki home run. Martinez gave up seven hits and walked two while striking out two in the outing. The young right-hander has been demolished in three of his last seven starts, sending his ERA up to 3.92 with a 1.41 WHIP and a 59/36 K/BB ratio over 101 innings. Martinez has a date in Los Angeles with the Angels next.

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez will start on Monday against the Rockies. The righty was sent down earlier this month after seeing his ERA balloon from 2.76 to 3.43. He should remain in the rotation for a while if he performs, but we're not terribly optimistic.

Nick Martinez will be recalled to start on Monday against the Rockies.

It's unclear what the plan is for Wandy Rodriguez, who had been slated to take the ball Monday. Martinez got off to a great start this season but then hit a wall and was sent down earlier this month. He'll get another shot after allowing three runs over six innings in two starts with Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

The wheels have fallen off for Martinez over his last three starts. He's lost all three and has seen his ERA skyrocket from 2.76 to 3.43. With Matt Harrison (back) close to coming off the disabled list, the Rangers needed to kick someone out of their starting rotation. The struggling right-hander has allowed a home run in six of his last eight starts. He should be back with Texas later this season.

Nick Martinez pitched well against the Orioles but faltered late and lost, giving up four runs (three earned) in 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday.

Martinez had allowed one run on a Jimmy Paredes home run through five innings, but allowed a run on a ground out in the sixth and a two-run home run to J.J. Hardy in the seventh before departing. He allowed seven hits overall with a walk and five strikeouts. Aside from a pair of drubbings suffered in June, Martinez has had a terrific 2015 campaign, sporting a 3.43 ERA with a 1.37 WHIP and a 57/34 K/BB ratio over 97 innings. He'll make a home start versus the Diamondbacks next.

Nick Martinez was hit extremely hard by the Blue Jays, and regression, on Friday as he allowed eight runs on nine hits over his six innings of work.

Martinez walked four and struck out a pair on the night. The Jays jumped on him immediately in this one, with the first three batters reaching safely and riding home on a grand slam off the bat of Edwin Encarnacion. He was able to settle in a bit afterwards, but the damage had been done. After a strong start to the season that was basically smoke and mirrors, Martinez has been slaughtered twice in five June starts, seeing his ERA rise from 2.03 to 3.39. He'll hope for better results on Wednesday against the Orioles in Baltimore.

Nick Martinez gave up three runs -- two earned -- over six innings Saturday in a loss to the White Sox.

Martinez walked three and yielded six hits, though none of them went for extra bases. The 24-year-old right-hander will carry a shiny 2.77 ERA into his next start on the road against a dangerous Blue Jays offense.
