Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

He's being sent down with Derek Holland expected to make his return Tuesday. Martinez owns an ugly 7.16 ERA in five starts and three relief appearances with the Rangers this season.

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

With Lucas Harrell hitting the disabled list with a groin injury, the Rangers called up Martinez to serve as an additional option. It is not yet known whether he will be used out of the bullpen or in the rotation. Through 26 1/3 innings with the big league club this season -- five starts, one relief appearance -- Martinez has yielded 21 runs on 36 hits. There isn't any fantasy intrigue here.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

Dario Alvarez, who the Rangers acquired in a trade with Atlanta earlier this week, was activated in the corresponding roster move. Martinez was lit up in a spot start against Oakland on Tuesday night (4 IP, 6 H, 5 ER) and now carries an uninspiring 7.18 ERA over seven appearances for the Rangers this year. He'll return to Texas when rosters expand in September, if not sooner.
Jul 28 - 4:28 PM

Nick Martinez allowed five runs, including three home runs, over four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics.

Martinez gave up homers to Coco Crisp, Josh Reddick and Marcus Semien, accounting for four of the five runs allowed and three of the Athletics' six hits against him. It wasn't the outing he was hoping for in his return to the bigs, as the start was his first in nearly a month after being sent to Triple-A on July 9. Martinez holds a 7.18 ERA and 1.97 WHIP as a member of the Rangers this year, and it's hard to imagine they'll give him another start given the results.
Jul 27 - 12:46 AM

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez will start Tuesday night against the Athletics. He owns a rough 6.45 ERA in four starts and two relief appearances this season at the major league level.
Jul 26 - 4:10 PM

The Rangers will call up Nick Martinez to start Tuesday against the Athletics.

It was assumed after Martinez was scratched from his start at Triple-A on Sunday, but it's now official. He'll essentially take Kyle Lohse's spot in the rotation. Martinez has posted an ugly 6.45 ERA over four starts and two relief appearances with the Rangers this season, but he has had better results since being sent down to the minors earlier this month. Still, he's not a recommended fantasy option.
Jul 25 - 11:28 PM

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez had been expected to start on Saturday against the Twins, but after a disastrous outing on Monday the club has opted to go with veteran right-hander Kyle Lohse instead. Martinez will continue to provide rotation depth in the minor leagues.
Jul 9 - 8:16 AM

Nick Martinez will make another start Saturday against the Twins.

There was speculation that Martinez might lose his spot in the starting rotation following a dreadful performance Monday against the Red Sox (4 1/3 IP, 11 H, 6 ER) but he'll be given one more chance to right the ship. The right-hander owns a sluggish 6.86 ERA in four starts for Texas this year.
Jul 7 - 8:43 PM

Nick Martinez was pounded for six earned runs over 4 1/3 innings Monday as the Rangers fell to the Red Sox.

Michael Roth handled the rest of the beating in the 12-5 loss, yielding six earned runs over 3 2/3 innings. Martinez gave up 11 hits and walked three, watching his season WHIP rise from 1.72 to 2.01. He also now has a 6.45 season ERA. The right-hander is not long for the Texas rotation.
Jul 4 - 5:16 PM

Nick Martinez walked five batters in five innings, but gave up only two runs on three hits as he settled for a no-decision versus the Yankees on Wednesday.

Martinez was making his third start of the season. He is in the Rangers' rotation only because Yu Darvish, Colby Lewis and Derek Holland are injured. Martinez has a track record of very low strikeout rates and is not a good option for fantasy owners despite his good game today. He now has a 5.00 ERA in 18 innings and will face the Red Sox and Twins in a two-start week next week.
Jun 29 - 11:17 PM

Nick Martinez was charged with four runs in six innings and took a no-decision versus the Red Sox on Friday.

Martinez gave up six hits, two of which landed on the far side of the outfield wall. Making his second start of the year, he struck out only two batters while walking three. He has a 5.54 ERA and is striking out only 3.46 batters per nine innings. Martinez is nothing more than a replacement-level pitcher who is only in the majors because the Rangers' rotation has been devastated by injury. He is best avoided in fantasy unless you play in a very deep AL-only league.
Jun 25 - 12:26 AM

Nick Martinez allowed three runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings in a start against the Cardinals on Saturday.

It's unclear whether the start will be his last for a while or whether the Rangers will keep him in the rotation for the foreseeable future for lack of better options. He has a 5.14 ERA in seven innings with the big club and owned a 4.50 ERA in 11 starts at Triple-A, so either way, Martinez isn't a name worth knowing for fantasy owners.
Jun 18 - 11:33 PM

Nick Martinez will start on Saturday against the Cardinals.

He's getting the call over Cesar Ramos, who will head back to the Rangers' bullpen. Martinez carries a 4.50 ERA in 11 starts for Round Rock this year and can be ignored for fantasy purposes.
Jun 17 - 4:09 PM

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Tom Wilhelmsen was sent down in the corresponding roster move. Manager Jeff Banister said he'll consider starting Martinez Saturday against the Cardinals, but no decision has been made yet. The 25-year-old carries a 4.50 ERA in 11 starts for Round Rock this year.
