Nick Martinez pitched decently in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Mariners, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits over four innings.

Martinez coughed up a two-run double to Ben Gamel in the fourth inning, but was otherwise able to keep the Mariners at bay. He struck out six and walked one in the contest. While Saturday's outing was respectable enough, the 26-year-old right-hander has largely struggled this spring and looks to be on the outside of the Opening Day rotation at this juncture.

Nick Martinez imploded Wednesday in the Rangers’ Cactus League win over the Indians, allowing nine hits, seven runs and one walk over 2 2/3 miserable innings.

He logged two strikeouts while throwing 42 of his 65 pitches for strikes. The Indians absolutely annihilated Martinez in Wednesday’s slugfest, torching him for one run in the first, three in the second and three more in the third. Martinez allowed four men to reach in the third before finally getting the hook from manager Jeff Banister. Wednesday’s meltdown raised Martinez’s spring ERA from 12.71 to 16.20. The right-hander was hoping to land a spot on the Rangers’ Opening Day roster but barring a miracle, that’s not going to happen.
Mar 15 - 8:25 PM

Nick Martinez yielded two runs on five hits Sunday in a two-inning Cactus League start against the Cubs.

Cubs infielder Tommy La Stella did most of the damage against Martinez with a solo home run in the first inning and a sacrifice fly that scored Nomar Mazara from third base in the top of the second. Martinez is on the outside looking in for an Opening Day roster spot with Texas. No matter what happens, he is not fantasy-relevant.
Mar 5 - 4:43 PM

Nick Martinez started and worked two scoreless innings Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks.

It was the first appearance of the spring for the 26-year-old right-hander, who is trying to reestablish his value to the Rangers after struggling to the tune of a 5.59 ERA in five starts and seven relief appearances last season. He seems doubtful to crack the Opening Day roster.

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez holds a 7.16 ERA in eight appearances -- five starts -- for the Rangers this season. He'll be used in a mop-up role this month.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

He's being sent down with Derek Holland expected to make his return Tuesday. Martinez owns an ugly 7.16 ERA in five starts and three relief appearances with the Rangers this season.

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

With Lucas Harrell hitting the disabled list with a groin injury, the Rangers called up Martinez to serve as an additional option. It is not yet known whether he will be used out of the bullpen or in the rotation. Through 26 1/3 innings with the big league club this season -- five starts, one relief appearance -- Martinez has yielded 21 runs on 36 hits. There isn't any fantasy intrigue here.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

Dario Alvarez, who the Rangers acquired in a trade with Atlanta earlier this week, was activated in the corresponding roster move. Martinez was lit up in a spot start against Oakland on Tuesday night (4 IP, 6 H, 5 ER) and now carries an uninspiring 7.18 ERA over seven appearances for the Rangers this year. He'll return to Texas when rosters expand in September, if not sooner.

Nick Martinez allowed five runs, including three home runs, over four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics.

Martinez gave up homers to Coco Crisp, Josh Reddick and Marcus Semien, accounting for four of the five runs allowed and three of the Athletics' six hits against him. It wasn't the outing he was hoping for in his return to the bigs, as the start was his first in nearly a month after being sent to Triple-A on July 9. Martinez holds a 7.18 ERA and 1.97 WHIP as a member of the Rangers this year, and it's hard to imagine they'll give him another start given the results.

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez will start Tuesday night against the Athletics. He owns a rough 6.45 ERA in four starts and two relief appearances this season at the major league level.

The Rangers will call up Nick Martinez to start Tuesday against the Athletics.

It was assumed after Martinez was scratched from his start at Triple-A on Sunday, but it's now official. He'll essentially take Kyle Lohse's spot in the rotation. Martinez has posted an ugly 6.45 ERA over four starts and two relief appearances with the Rangers this season, but he has had better results since being sent down to the minors earlier this month. Still, he's not a recommended fantasy option.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez had been expected to start on Saturday against the Twins, but after a disastrous outing on Monday the club has opted to go with veteran right-hander Kyle Lohse instead. Martinez will continue to provide rotation depth in the minor leagues.

Nick Martinez will make another start Saturday against the Twins.

There was speculation that Martinez might lose his spot in the starting rotation following a dreadful performance Monday against the Red Sox (4 1/3 IP, 11 H, 6 ER) but he'll be given one more chance to right the ship. The right-hander owns a sluggish 6.86 ERA in four starts for Texas this year.

Nick Martinez was pounded for six earned runs over 4 1/3 innings Monday as the Rangers fell to the Red Sox.

Michael Roth handled the rest of the beating in the 12-5 loss, yielding six earned runs over 3 2/3 innings. Martinez gave up 11 hits and walked three, watching his season WHIP rise from 1.72 to 2.01. He also now has a 6.45 season ERA. The right-hander is not long for the Texas rotation.
