Nick Martinez allowed four runs on seven hits over five innings in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox.
Perhaps no stat line better encapsulates Nick Martinez: not very good, but not awful, either. His 4.69 ERA through seven starts tells a similar story. At least he's reliable -- in all seven of those starts, he's gone at least five innings but no more than seven. Martinez will carry a 1-3 record into Tuesday's start against the Rays. Date:

Nick Martinez picked up his first victory of the 2017 season on Friday, limiting the Tigers to one unearned run on four hits over his five frames.

The right-hander walked one and struck out four on the night. With this strong effort added to his resume, he now sports a more respectable 4.33 ERA and 1.25 WHIP through 35 1/3 innings on the season. He still isn't a recommended streaming option for Thursday's matchup against the Red Sox in Boston.
May 19 - 11:22 PM

Nick Martinez allowed three runs over six innings in a no-decision Saturday against the A's.

Martinez allowed seven hits and a walk while striking out only one. Martinez is capable of pitching well, but even when he does, it's usually without a high strikeout total, basically killing his fantasy appeal. He'll carry a 5.04 ERA and 1.29 WHIP into a contest against the Tigers in Detroit on Friday.
May 14 - 12:07 AM

Nick Martinez was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- in 5 1/3 innings by the Astros on Wednesday.

Martinez is going to have to make more starts for Texas with Cole Hamels getting added to the disabled list, but he doesn't need to be on fantasy rosters in the process.
May 4 - 12:14 AM

Nick Martinez will start Wednesday against the Astros.

Martinez has pitched well as a fill-in for A.J. Griffin (gout), allowing four runs over 13 innings to go along with a 10/1 K/BB ratio. Griffin is expected to make his return on Thursday, while Yu Darvish will get an extra day of rest and pitch on Friday.
May 1 - 3:31 PM

Nick Martinez allowed three runs over six innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Friday.

All of the damage was via the long ball, as Martinez gave up a solo homer to Yunel Escobar in the first inning and a two-run shot to Mike Trout in the sixth. He struck out seven and walked none in the no-decision. The 26-year-old has pitched well filling in for A.J. Griffin (gout), allowing four runs in 13 innings with a 10/1 K/BB ratio over two starts. Griffin is expected to make his return next week.
Apr 29 - 12:25 AM

Nick Martinez limited the Royals to one run over seven innings but settled for a no-decision Saturday.

Martinez, making his first start of 2017, kept the Royals offense in check for most of the night, giving up just four hits -- all singles -- and walking one over his seven innings. The 26-year-old got the start in place of A.J. Griffin, and his performance guarantees he'll get another. That start will likely come next weekend against the Angels.
Apr 23 - 12:05 AM

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

He'll start for the Rangers on Saturday against the Royals in place of the injured A.J. Griffin. The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 5.59 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 38 2/3 innings for the Rangers in 2016. He should not be considered as a streaming option.
Apr 21 - 11:10 PM

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

The Rangers had to make room for Andrew Cashner, who was activated from the disabled list on Saturday. Martinez was called up from Round Rock on Wednesday but didn't appear in any games. Expect Martinez to make many trips between Arlington and Round Rock this year.
Apr 15 - 5:49 PM

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez will be available out of the bullpen on Wednesday and could potentially start on Saturday against the Mariners. In 38 2/3 innings with the big league club last season, the 26-year-old right-hander posted a 5.59 ERA. There is no fantasy intrigue here.
Apr 12 - 7:25 PM

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez was roughed up with an 8.66 ERA over five starts and one relief appearance this spring. He'll serve as rotation depth in the minors.
Mar 29 - 3:10 PM

Nick Martinez pitched decently in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Mariners, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits over four innings.

Martinez coughed up a two-run double to Ben Gamel in the fourth inning, but was otherwise able to keep the Mariners at bay. He struck out six and walked one in the contest. While Saturday's outing was respectable enough, the 26-year-old right-hander has largely struggled this spring and looks to be on the outside of the Opening Day rotation at this juncture.
Mar 25 - 6:39 PM

Nick Martinez imploded Wednesday in the Rangers’ Cactus League win over the Indians, allowing nine hits, seven runs and one walk over 2 2/3 miserable innings.

He logged two strikeouts while throwing 42 of his 65 pitches for strikes. The Indians absolutely annihilated Martinez in Wednesday’s slugfest, torching him for one run in the first, three in the second and three more in the third. Martinez allowed four men to reach in the third before finally getting the hook from manager Jeff Banister. Wednesday’s meltdown raised Martinez’s spring ERA from 12.71 to 16.20. The right-hander was hoping to land a spot on the Rangers’ Opening Day roster but barring a miracle, that’s not going to happen.
Mar 15 - 8:25 PM

Nick Martinez yielded two runs on five hits Sunday in a two-inning Cactus League start against the Cubs.

Cubs infielder Tommy La Stella did most of the damage against Martinez with a solo home run in the first inning and a sacrifice fly that scored Nomar Mazara from third base in the top of the second. Martinez is on the outside looking in for an Opening Day roster spot with Texas. No matter what happens, he is not fantasy-relevant.
Mar 5 - 4:43 PM

Nick Martinez started and worked two scoreless innings Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks.

It was the first appearance of the spring for the 26-year-old right-hander, who is trying to reestablish his value to the Rangers after struggling to the tune of a 5.59 ERA in five starts and seven relief appearances last season. He seems doubtful to crack the Opening Day roster.
