Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

He's switching places with Andrew Faulkner. Martinez was working as a starter in Round Rock but there's no room for him in the Rangers' rotation. The right-hander owns a 0.57 ERA in eight career relief appearances.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

This means that A.J. Griffin will get the fifth starter job, as expected. Martinez posted an 8.59 ERA this spring, so he didn't do much to sway the Rangers.

Nick Martinez failed to further his cause for a rotation spot Friday, giving up four runs -- three earned -- in three innings against the Rockies.

Martinez, who walked two and struck out none today, is sporting an 8.59 ERA. The door was open for him to be Yu Darvish's replacement, but now he seems Triple-A bound.

Nick Martinez was knocked around for seven runs over two innings of work in Thursday’s Cactus League start against the split-squad White Sox.

He allowed seven hits and a walk. Five runs scored in the first inning, the big blow of which was a three-run homer from Jerry Sands. Martinez made 21 starts and three relief appearances with the Rangers last season while posting a serviceable 3.96 ERA. However, he averaged just 5.5 K/9 while walking 46 batters and hitting 13 batters in 125 innings. He’s slated to serve as organizational rotation depth in 2016.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

The move clears a roster spot for Chi Chi Gonzalez, who will start in place of Cole Hamels (groin) on Thursday afternoon against the Twins. Martinez was lit up for seven runs (four earned) over 3 2/3 innings on Wednesday.

Nick Martinez suffered a loss on Wednesday after surrendering seven runs (four earned) in 3 2/3 innings to the Twins.

Martinez gave up three home runs: a solo shot to Aaron Hicks in the first inning, a two-run jack to Miguel Sano in the third, and a three-run homer to Sano in the fourth. Shortstop Elvis Andrus committed an error in the fourth which helped prolong the inning ahead of Sano's blast. Overall, Martinez yielded 11 hits, walked none, and struck out four. The young right-hander has a 4.09 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and a 73/44 K/BB ratio over 121 innings. He'll try to rebound next week in a home start against the Mariners.

Nick Martinez allowed just one run and one hit over five innings to pick up the win against the Astros on Wednesday.

The quick hook seemed like a good idea; Martinez threw 86 pitches in five and might have had another inning in him, but the Rangers were better off going to the pen, even if it didn't work out in the sixth (two-thirds of the three-run lead was given away before things calmed down). Martinez is now 7-6 with a 3.91 ERA, but that's mostly residue of his hot start. He's not recommended now.

Nick Martinez allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings in Friday's 6-3 win over the Giants.

Martinez allowed runs in the first and second, but managed to hold the Giants off the board the rest of the way. He struck out four and walked a pair en route to his first win since way back on June 9. The 24-year-old has faded since a hot start to the season and now owns a 4.01 ERA and 68/41 K/BB ratio over 112 1/3 innings. Derek Holland (shoulder) could take Martinez's rotation spot before long, but he lines up for a start against the Astros next week at home.

Nick Martinez struggled in Sunday's loss to the Angels, yielding four runs on six hits over five-plus innings.

Two of the six hits Martinez allowed left the ballpark, as Mike Trout launched a solo shot off the pitcher in the first inning and C.J. Cron touched him up for another solo homer in the fourth. He was pulled after walking Conner Gillaspie to open the sixth inning. The walk was one of three he issued on the day, to go against five strikeouts. The 24-year-old right-hander's made two starts since being recalled from Triple-A on July 20 and has allowed 11 runs in nine innings during this second crack at the rotation. That his ERA still sits at 3.99 is a testament to how well he was pitching when the team first called him up. At 47-50, the Rangers should be motivated to find another starter at the trade deadline unless they've completely given up on the season.

Nick Martinez surrendered seven runs in four innings but lucked into a no-decision as the Rangers came back and ultimately lost in walk-off fashion to the Rockies on Monday.

The Rockies plated three runs in the first inning and four in the second, capped off by a two-run Troy Tulowitzki home run. Martinez gave up seven hits and walked two while striking out two in the outing. The young right-hander has been demolished in three of his last seven starts, sending his ERA up to 3.92 with a 1.41 WHIP and a 59/36 K/BB ratio over 101 innings. Martinez has a date in Los Angeles with the Angels next.

Rangers recalled RHP Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez will start on Monday against the Rockies. The righty was sent down earlier this month after seeing his ERA balloon from 2.76 to 3.43. He should remain in the rotation for a while if he performs, but we're not terribly optimistic.
