Adalberto Mejia gave up two runs in five innings and settled for a no-decision against the Rays on Saturday.
He pitched well in his fourth major-league start. Both runs were driven in by Rays' catcher Derek Norris. The first one came on a second-inning single, the second one on a fourth-inning sacrifice fly. The 23-year-old Mejia surrendered six base hits and two walks while notching six strikeouts. He has a 4.64 ERA with 19 strikeouts and 12 walks in 21 1/3 innings. May 27 - 6:22 PM

Twins recalled LHP Adalberto Mejia from Triple-A Rochester.

Mejia will start for the Twins against the Rays on Saturday afternoon. He did well in a spot start on Sunday, limiting the Royals to three runs on five hits over seven innings in a victory.
May 27 - 10:45 AM

Adalberto Mejia earned his first victory of the season on Sunday, limiting the Royals to three runs on five hits over seven strong innings.

Mejia walked two and struck out three on the afternoon. All of the damage against him came from Salvador Perez who crushed a pair of home runs. He now owns a 4.96 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 13/10 K/BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings on the season. He'll head back down to Triple-A Rochester where he'll wait until the Twins need an extra starter again.
May 21 - 8:48 PM

Saturday's game between the Royals and Twins in Minnesota was postponed due to rain.

They'll play a straight doubleheader on Sunday. Look for Saturday's scheduled starters, Ian Kennedy and Adalberto Mejia, to pitch on Sunday.
May 20 - 1:06 PM

Adalberto Mejia is expected to start for the Twins on Saturday against the Royals.

Mejia has surrendered seven runs -- six earned -- over three starts this season at the major league level, with 11 hits allowed and eight walks issued over just 9 1/3 innings. He is not a recommended fantasy option.
May 18 - 11:43 AM

Twins optioned LHP Adalberto Mejia to Triple-A Rochester.

He lasted just 2 2/3 innings in a no-decision Saturday against Detroit. The 23-year-old joined the Twins last summer in the trade that sent Eduardo Nunez to the Giants. He holds a disappointing 6.17 ERA over four major league outings.
Apr 22 - 8:53 PM

Adalberto Mejia surrendered three runs in a brief 2 2/3 inning start on Saturday against the Tigers.

Six of the eight of the outs he recorded came via the strikeout. He gave up five hits and three walks. He allowed an RBI single in the second inning, then gave up solo homers to both Nick Castellanos and Justin Upton in the third. Mejia has accumulated a mere 9 1/3 innings between his first three starts. He has a 5.79 ERA with 10 strikeouts and a scary eight walks. He will face the Royals on the road on Friday.
Apr 22 - 6:17 PM

Wednesday's game between the Indians and Twins has been postponed due to rain in Minneapolis.

It'll be made up with a day-night doubleheader on June 17. Adalberto Mejia was set to start for the Twins against Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer. Ervin Santana will take his normal turn in the Minnesota rotation on Thursday with Mejia getting pushed back.
Apr 19 - 3:42 PM

Adalberto Mejia gave up just one run over five innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Friday.

The only run scored on a fielder’s choice grounder off the bat of Jose Abreu. Mejia gave up four hits in all while walking three and striking out four. While he didn’t factor into the decision, it was a big improvement from season debut against this very same team last Saturday. He’ll try to build off this one in a start against the Indians at home next week.
Apr 15 - 12:57 AM

Adalberto Mejia was lifted after allowing three runs -- two earned -- over 1 2/3 innings in his first MLB start Saturday.

Mejia debuted in a game last season, but Saturday was his first start in the bigs after winning the Twins' fifth starter gig out of spring. It didn't go as he hoped, as Mejia gave up two hits and walked two White Sox hitters before being removed. Saturday's debut notwithstanding, the 23-year-old is a talented young southpaw who should have plenty of highs to go with the lows in his rookie year.
Apr 8 - 9:41 PM

Adalberto Mejia will open the 2017 regular season as the Twins' fifth starter.

Mejia secured the job with a 1.88 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings this spring. The 23-year-old right-hander might carry some value in AL-only fantasy leagues, but mixed leaguers can probably do better.
Mar 30 - 9:30 AM

Adalberto Mejia surrendered a pair of solo homers over four innings of relief Monday against the Blue Jays.

Though Mejia would seem to be the much more serious rotation candidate than Tyler Duffey at this point, he pitched in relief of Duffey today. The home run ball always figures to be Mejia's biggest issue; he'll get his strikeouts and do a fine job of limiting walks, but he allows a whole lot of flyballs. It's why we're skeptical that he'd be worth using in AL-only leagues if he gets that rotation spot.
Mar 20 - 5:48 PM

Adalberto Mejia fanned eight in 3 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday as the Twins shut out the Cardinals 8-0.

That's one way to make a statement in the rotation competition. Mejia did allow four hits, but all were singles and he walked none. Mejia was a huge long shot for a spot at the beginning of camp, but Trevor May got hurt and Jose Berrios hasn't stepped it up. The ideal for the Twins is that Berrios pitches well enough to secure the fifth spot, but Mejia should be the favorite after this. Mejia might be better than Phil Hughes or Hector Santiago anyway.
Mar 15 - 4:20 PM

Twins optioned LHP Adalberto Mejia to Triple-A Rochester.

That was fast. Mejia was only in the majors one day, but he made the most of his opportunity, allowing five hits and two runs over 2 1/3 innings in his big league debut Saturday against the Royals. Mejia probably wouldn't have been available for the next several days so it makes sense for the Twins to call up a fresh arm. He'll be back in September.

Twins recalled LHP Adalberto Mejia from Triple-A Rochester.

The Twins wanted an extra arm for their bullpen after losing Friday night's game in 11 innings. Mejia has seen mixed results since coming over from San Francisco in a trade last month. The left-hander went 1-2 with a 4.66 ERA in three starts for Rochester before his callup. This will be his first stint in the major leagues.
