The Twins could recall Adalberto Mejia to start Friday against the White Sox.
That's if the game is even played, as rain and/or snow is expected in Minneapolis. It had been expected that the club could bring up Phil Hughes (oblique) for the start, but they've elected to give him another rehab outing. Mejia would be pitching on three days' rest, but he threw only 24 pitches Monday. Apr 13 - 11:01 AM

Date:

Twins optioned LHPs Adalberto Mejia and Stephen Gonsalves, and RHPs John Curtiss and RHP Aaron Slegers to Triple-A Rochester; optioned RHP Fernando Romero to Double-A Chattanooga.

This series of cuts provides clarity about the Twins' plans for their rotation. Phil Hughes is now in position to fill a spot until Ervin Santana (hand) is ready to return.

Adalberto Mejia allowed three runs in three innings Tuesday in a no-decision versus the Orioles.

Mejia allowed four hits, walked one and struck out one. He's penciled into the Twins' rotation at the moment, but he hasn't helped himself by giving up five runs his last two times out. He'll be vulnerable if the Twins decide to spend what it takes to add one of the remaining free agent starters.
Mar 6 - 4:44 PM

Adalberto Mejia gave up two runs and four hits in three innings Thursday against the Cardinals.

MArcell Ozuna homered off him. The Twins would like to see Mejia win a rotation spot this spring, but he's not assured anything now and he'll be more likely to find himself on the outside looking in if the Twins sign a veteran.
Mar 1 - 5:11 PM

Adalberto Mejia threw two scoreless innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League tie against the Orioles.

The southpaw gave up two hits and a walk without striking out a batter over his two innings of work, but all in all it was a good first outing of spring. Mejia was a surprising contributor to the Twins' postseason run last season, making 21 starts with a 4.50 ERA across 98 innings. The 24-year-old is one of the few written in pen into the Twins' rotation heading into 2018.
Feb 24 - 9:27 PM

Adalberto Mejia took a loss to the Indians after allowing two runs in 3 2/3 innings on Wednesday.

He gave up a run on an Edwin Encarnacion single in the first inning. In the fourth frame he beaned catcher Yan Gomes with the bases loaded to bring in another run. All told he surrendered five hits and three walks while striking out three on the evening. He's made 21 starts for the Twins this year, notching a 4-7 record and a 4.50 ERA. He recently returned from a month-long stint on the disabled list with a bicep injury.

Adalberto Mejia (biceps) held the Tigers to one run over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision Thursday.

Mejia scattered four hits and a walk while striking out five, and if it weren't for him still working to rebuild endurance he may have finally gotten his first win of the second half. As it is, the 24-year-old will just have to settle for a team win and a moral victory. Through 20 starts, Mejia holds a 4.48 ERA and 1.55 WHIP, and he'll keep searching for that first second-half win Wednesday against the Indians.

Adalberto Mejia (biceps) allowed three runs over three innings against the Blue Jays Saturday in his return from the disabled list.

Pitching in his first game in almost a month and a half, the southpaw yielded five hits, including a solo homer, without walking a batter in his three innings of work. He also struck out three. In 19 starts overall, Mejia is 4-6 with a 4.62 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. The 24-year-old had been pitching better prior to his injury, and the postseason-minded Twins will hope he can regain that form sooner than later. His next chance will be Thursday at the Tigers.

Twins activated LHP Adalberto Mejia from the 10-day disabled list.

As noted earlier, he'll make his return to the Twins rotation on Saturday against Toronto. Mejia holds a 4.47 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 74/40 K/BB ratio in 86 2/3 innings this season with Minnesota.

Adalberto Mejia (biceps) will rejoin the Twins rotation on Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Mejia pitched well in a rehab start on Saturday, and obviously looked good enough to rejoin the Minnesota rotation as they try and clinch a playoff spot. In 86 2/3 innings this season, the southpaw has an ERA of 4.47 and 74 strikeouts.
Wed, Sep 13, 2017 04:12:00 PM

Adalberto Mejia (biceps) is ready to rejoin the Twins' rotation after throwing five scoreless innings in a rehab start with Double-a Chattanooga on Saturday.

Manager Paul Molitor wasn't sure when exactly Mejia will be slotted in, but count on it being sometime this week. The left-hander has been out since early August due to a strained biceps.

Adalberto Mejia (biceps) will have his rehab assignment shifted to Double-A Chattanooga.

Mejia, out since August 9 with a left arm brachialis strain, allowed one run over eight innings during his stint with Triple-A Rochester. He'll now continue his rehab in Double-A during the team's playoff run.

Adalberto Mejia (biceps) tossed three scoreless innings Wednesday in his rehab debut with Triple-A Rochester.

Twins manager Paul Molitor told reporters Thursday morning that reports on the outing were "very encouraging." Mejia will make another rehab start Monday at Rochester before returning to the Twins' active roster late next week. It's unclear whether he will be used as a starter or reliever down the stretch.

Adalberto Mejia (biceps) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Rochester.

Mejia has been on the disabled list since August 9 because of a left arm brachialis strain. He'll probably need to make more than one start on the farm to get properly stretched back out. The 24-year-old southpaw owns a 4.47 ERA in 18 outings this season at the major league level.

Adalberto Mejia (biceps) threw a bullpen session Thursday.

Mejia "did very well" in the mound session, according to Twins manager Paul Molitor. The left-hander will throw off the bump again Sunday before likely being cleared to face hitters if it goes well. Mejia is working his way back from a strained biceps.
