Adalberto Mejia surrendered a pair of solo homers over four innings of relief Monday against the Blue Jays.
Though Mejia would seem to be the much more serious rotation candidate than Tyler Duffey at this point, he pitched in relief of Duffey today. The home run ball always figures to be Mejia's biggest issue; he'll get his strikeouts and do a fine job of limiting walks, but he allows a whole lot of flyballs. It's why we're skeptical that he'd be worth using in AL-only leagues if he gets that rotation spot. Mar 20 - 5:48 PM

Adalberto Mejia fanned eight in 3 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday as the Twins shut out the Cardinals 8-0.

That's one way to make a statement in the rotation competition. Mejia did allow four hits, but all were singles and he walked none. Mejia was a huge long shot for a spot at the beginning of camp, but Trevor May got hurt and Jose Berrios hasn't stepped it up. The ideal for the Twins is that Berrios pitches well enough to secure the fifth spot, but Mejia should be the favorite after this. Mejia might be better than Phil Hughes or Hector Santiago anyway.

Twins optioned LHP Adalberto Mejia to Triple-A Rochester.

That was fast. Mejia was only in the majors one day, but he made the most of his opportunity, allowing five hits and two runs over 2 1/3 innings in his big league debut Saturday against the Royals. Mejia probably wouldn't have been available for the next several days so it makes sense for the Twins to call up a fresh arm. He'll be back in September.

Twins recalled LHP Adalberto Mejia from Triple-A Rochester.

The Twins wanted an extra arm for their bullpen after losing Friday night's game in 11 innings. Mejia has seen mixed results since coming over from San Francisco in a trade last month. The left-hander went 1-2 with a 4.66 ERA in three starts for Rochester before his callup. This will be his first stint in the major leagues.

Twins acquired LHP Adalberto Mejia from the Giants in exchange for SS Eduardo Nunez.

Mejia came in at No. 91 in Baseball America's latest prospect rankings. The 23-year-old from the Dominican Republic has pitched reasonably well this season, compiling a 2.81 ERA over 18 starts for Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. He'll likely begin his Twins tenure with Triple-A Rochester but it's conceivable that he could work his way up to the majors before the end of 2016.

Giants purchased the contract of LHP Adalberto Mejia from Double-A Richmond.

The roster move protects the 22-year-old left-hander from being selected in the Rule 5 draft next month. After missing the start of the 2015 season due to a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, Mejia compiled a tremendous 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 38/18 K/BB ratio over 51 1/3 innings.

Giants prospect LHP Adalberto Mejia tossed four hitless innings on Thursday in his season debut for Double-A Richmond.

He struck out three batters and walked one in the outing, throwing 41 of 53 pitches for strikes. Mejia, 21, was activated from Richmond’s restricted list prior to the start after serving a 50-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. The left-hander was viewed as one the Giants’ top prospects headed into the current season despite a disappointing 2014 campaign at Richmond in which he posted a 4.67 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 108 innings (21 starts). Mejia will continue to build up arm strength while taking another crack at the Eastern League, but it would be a surprise if he didn’t spend at least part of the year in Triple-A.

Giants pitching prospect Adalberto Mejia has been suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for a stimulant.

Mejia, 21, is coming off a down season at Double-A, having posted a 4.67 ERA with 82 strikeouts over 108 innings. He remains one of the Giants' top prospects, though, with the ceiling of a mid-rotation starter.

Giants left-handed pitching prospect Adalberto Mejia threw five shutout innings, scattering two hits and striking out one batter for Double-A Richmond.

Mejia uses an advanced understanding of pitching and three average pitches (fastball, slider, changeup) to keep batters off balance, but he has struggled against the more advanced hitters in Double-A. For the season, opposing batters have hit .292/.330/.464 off him. He still projects as a mid-rotation starter who could reach the major leagues in 2015, but his struggles in Double-A have taken some of the shine off the apple.

Giants left-handed pitching prospect Adalberto Mejia went seven shutout innings for Double-A Richmond on Sunday, striking out seven batters.

Mejia has struggled in 2014, as opposing batters have hit .294/.331/.492 for the season. He allowed four hits and one walk, lowering his ERA to 5.61 and WHIP to 1.433. Mejia was a trendy pick to be a breakout pitcher in 2014, and this could be the first big step in a positive direction.

Giants left-handed pitching prospect Adalberto Mejia struck out six in six innings on Friday in his return to the mound after being hit by a line drive earlier in the week.

Mejia showed no ill effects, allowing just four hits, one walk, and one run for Double-A Richmond. It appears that the Giants were being cautious with one of their top prospects. Mejia has a 3.75 ERA and 1.083 WHIP for the season with a 9.0 K/9, and could see time in San Francisco as soon as the end of the 2014 season.

Giants left-handed pitching prospect Adalberto Mejia has a bruised shin after being hit by a line drive off the bat of Pirates prospect Alen Hanson on Friday.

Fortunately, the injury is not considered serious and Mejia will make his next start. Mejia has started slowly in 2014, but he had a 6.08 ERA after his first three starts of 2013, so he may need a few starts to get into a groove.

Giants prospect left-hander Adalberto Mejia has been assigned to Double-A Richmond.

The Flying Squirrels begin their season on Thursday, April 3. Mejia will never be at the top of a prospect list, but with his advanced pitchability and a solid three pitch mix (fastball, slider, changeup), Mejia could be a solid mid-rotation stalwart. He won't turn 21 until late June, so keep an eye on him as he could make the majors as soon as early 2015.
