Diamondbacks purchased the contract of OF Gabby Guerrero from Double-A Mobile.

The 21-year-old outfielder, and nephew of Vladimir Guerrero, was acquired as part of June's deal that sent Mark Trumbo to the Mariners. He hit a disappointing .222/.258/.343 with seven homers and 47 RBI in 126 games at Double-A.

Diamondbacks OF prospect Gabriel Guerrero belted two homers Sunday in a win for Double-A Mobile.

Arizona acquired Guerrero from Seattle in the Mark Trumbo trade earlier this month. The 21-year-old has hit for a low average this season (.220 in 236 at-bats) but at least he's starting to find his power stroke. Guerrero is the nephew of former AL MVP Vladimir Guerrero.

Diamondbacks acquired OF Gabby Guerrero, C Welington Castillo, RHP Dominic Leone and INF Jack Reinheimer from the Mariners for OF Mark Trumbo and LHP Vidal Nuno.

Guerrero is the nephew of the great Vladimir Guerrero, but Gabby isn't quite to his uncle's caliber. Like his uncle, Guerrero swings and misses a lot -- he's already struck out 48 times in 48 games with Double-A Jackson this season -- but he's also got a lot of power. Just 21 years old, Guerrero likely won't see the majors for at least another few years.

Mariners prospect outfielder Gabby Guerrero went 3-for-5 with a home run on Saturday for High-A High Desert, raising his season line to .308/.346/.465.

Guerrero has achieved an OPS in excess of 800 in every month other than June, and has hit .315/.356/.574 with two doubles and four home runs over his last 13 games. He has the potential to hit .300 while hitting 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases, but will likely need a full season in Double-A in 2015 before making his major league debut in mid-2016.

Mariners outfield prospect Gabby Guerrero went 5-for-8 with one double and two home runs in a doubleheader for High-A High Desert on Friday.

Guerrero was hit by a pitch in the game on August 3, after which the game was suspended due to rain. The game was continued on Friday, and Guerrero had a big night. He has an aggressive approach at the plate and, much like his Uncle Vladimir, has incredibly quick wrists that punish fastballs in the zone. This aggressive approach often leads to struggles with breaking pitches, but his hitting coach, Max Venable, said that "the home run he hit was a 3-2 slider," and "most of the hits he got tonight were off of off-speed pitches." Venable was also laudatory regarding Guerrero's adjustments during the season, and noted that he has done very well despite being only 20.

Mariners outfield prospect Gabriel Guerrero went 3-for-4 with a double and a sacrifice fly on Wednesday for High-A High Desert.

Guerrero has cooled off in August, hitting just .200/.245/.289 to bring his season line down to .301/.339/.441 with 25 doubles, one triple, and 13 home runs. He also has 16 stolen bases while only getting caught four times. Guerrero has the potential to hit .300 while going 20/20, but will likely need a full year at Double-A, and will not be up until mid-2016 at the earliest.

Mariners outfield prospect Gabriel Guerrero went 2-for-5 on Friday for High-A High Desert, raising his season line to .313/.353/.464.

Guerrero has hit .375/.403/.594 with five doubles and three home runs during his 14-game hitting streak, and has hit .348/.372/.551 during the month of July. Guerrero has hit a respectable .291/.333/.455 against righties, but has browbeaten lefties to a .380/.415/.490 line.

Mariners prospect outfielder Gabriel Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a double for High-A High Desert on Monday.

Guerrero is in the midst of an 11-game hit streak during which he has hit .340/.365/.460. After a poor June, during which he hit .247/.281/.315, Guerrero looks like he could hit .300 for his third out of four months, while posing an OPS higher than 800. His aggressive approach will likely make him a one level per year prospect, but he has the raw talent to hit .300 with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases.

Over his last 29 games, Guerrero has been a consistent producer, hitting .336/.370/.454 with six doubles, one triple, and two home runs. His best month of the season was April, but he has hit for a solid average and has substantially increased his walk rate.

Mariners outfield prospect Gabriel Guerrero went 2-for-5 on Wednesday for High-A High Desert.

Guerrero is riding a seven-game hitting streak during which he is hitting .345/.387/.517 with two doubles and a home run, raising his season line to .324/.370/.479. He has raised his walk rate and lowered his strikeout rate from last season, while nearly doubling his isolated power. Along with teammate D.J. Peterson, he could be in line for a promotion to Double-A Jackson by the end of the month.

Mariners prospect outfielder Gabriel Guerrero went 2-for- with a double and a stolen bases on Saturday for High-A High Desert.

Guerrero has hit .344/.394/.541 with four doubles, one triple, and two home runs over his last 15 games. He also has five walks and eight strikeouts over the same 15 games, which is a substantial improvement over his season line, which includes 17 walks and 52 strikeouts in 54 games. He sports a .326/.375/.489 line with 13 doubles, one triple, and seven home runs for the season, and has the potential to be an all-star five-tool outfielder.

Mariners outfield prospect Gabriel Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a walk on Wednesday for High-A High Desert.

His season line sits at .333/.378/.508, which includes nine walks (he had 21 in 499 PA in 2013) and 35 strikeouts in 144 plate appearances. Guerrero needs to cut down on his strikeouts by improving his pitch selection, but he possesses his uncle's innate ability to drive balls out of the strike zone. If he develops he has the potential to turn into a .300 hitter who hits 20-plus home runs and steals 15-plus bases.

Mariners outfield prospect Gabriel Guerrero went 3-for-5 on Monday for High-A High Desert, raising his season line to .347/.393/.541.

This was his second start of the season in center field. While he is a decent center fielder now, he profiles as a high-average, high-power slugger with an arm built for right field. Additionally, he is riding an eight game hit streak which includes a home run and three doubles.
Tue, Apr 29, 2014 11:51:00 AM

Mariners prospect outfielder Gabriel Guerrero hit his fourth home run of the season on Wednesday as part of a 2-for-4 night that also included a double.

Guerrero is hitting .355/.405/.592 with six doubles, four home runs, six walks, and 17 strikeouts through 19 games. As a point of comparison, he was hitting .214/.253/.286 with three doubles, one triple, zero home runs, four walks, and 19 strikeouts through 19 games last year. Guerrero is playing in one of the best parks for hitters in one of the most hitter-friendly leagues, but this could be the step forward that turns him into an elite prospect.
