Twins OF prospect Adam Brett Walker slugged three homers Saturday in a win for Triple-A Rochester.
Walker plated a season-high five runs while becoming the first Red Wing to homer three times in a game since Leo Gomez completed the trifecta in 1990. He's now gone deep five times in his last 11 at-bats. The 24-year-old has become a prolific power hitter with 93 round-trippers since the start of 2013. Walker is still hitting only .240 this year with 61 strikeouts in 125 at-bats. May 22 - 2:30 PM

Twins OF prospect Adam Brett Walker collected three hits Sunday in a win for Triple-A Rochester.

So far it's been smooth sailing for ADB in his first taste of Triple-A. Through three games, Walker is hitting .400 with an .800 slugging percentage. The 24-year-old power hitter established himself last year as one of the league's top prospects with 31 homers in 502 at-bats for Double-A Chattanooga. The main concern with Walker and probably the reason he hasn't made the leap to the big leagues yet is his huge strikeout rate. The former third-round pick struck out a whopping 195 times last season. The power is impressive but Walker still has a long way to go if he wants to be successful at the next level.

Twins optioned OF Adam Brett Walker and LHPs Pat Dean and LHP Mike Strong to Triple-A Rochester; optioned LHP Mason Melotakis and RHP JT Chargois to Double-A Chattanooga; optioned RHP Yorman Landa and LHP Randy Rosario to High-A Fort Myers.

No major surprises in this round of cuts from Twins camp. Walker tallied 31 home runs, 106 RBI, and 13 stolen bases in 133 games last season at the Double-A level, but plate discipline remains a serious issue for the 24-year-old corner outfielder. He had a .309 on-base percentage in 2015, and his career OBP in the minor leagues is just .311.

Twins purchased the contract of OF Adam Brett Walker from Double-A Chattanooga.

Walker was somewhat limited in his average at Double-A, but he showcased phenomenal power. The 24-year-old outfielder slashed .239/.309/.498 with 31 homers and 106 RBI. He also stole 13 bases. Both the homer and steal numbers are the best he's posted in his four years in the low levels of the Twins' minor league system.

Twins OF prospect Adam Brett Walker drilled his 30th home run Tuesday in a win for Double-A Chattanooga.

With teammates Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton up in Minnesota, it feels like Walker is the only one left in Chattanooga. From a pure power standpoint, Walker is right up there with some of the game's best prospects but his high strikeout numbers (188 Ks in 481 at-bats) and low batting average (.243) remain a concern. The 23-year-old has also flashed a decent set of wheels with 13 steals on 17 attempts this year. We'd expect him to make his big-league debut sometime in 2016.

Twins OF prospect Adam Brett Walker drilled his minor league-leading 21st homer Saturday for Double-A Chattanooga.

The 23-year-old has slugged three homers in his last four games. Walker leads the Southern League in home runs, RBI (63), slugging percentage (.592), strikeouts (107) and total bases (154). He's second behind teammate Miguel Sano with 48 runs scored. Walker's feast or famine approach might lead to a low average in the major leagues but his power will always be an asset.

Twins OF prospect Adam Brett Walker went deep in Saturday's win for Double-A Chattanooga.

With Byron Buxton gone, the Lookouts moved Walker down in the order from cleanup to the No. 5 spot. It didn't change anything as Walker launched his minor league-leading 17th home run. Walker continues to be a pure power hitter, balancing his enormous home run totals with massive strikeout numbers (90 punch-outs in 221 at-bats).

Twins OF prospect Adam Brett Walker pounded his league-leading 16th homer Tuesday for Double-A Chattanooga.

The 23-year-old has hit .444 with two homers and eight RBI over his last five games, raising his average from .246 to .263. He leads all Southern League hitters in RBI (50), slugging percentage (.585), total bases (120) and strikeouts (80). Walker will represent the North Division in the Southern League All-Star Game in Montgomery on June 23. He'll be joined by six of his Chattanooga teammates including top prospects Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano.

Twins outfield prospect Adam Brett Walker launched two homers Tuesday for Double-A Chattanooga.

It's Walker's second multi-homer game of the season. The 23-year-old is having a breakout season, leading the Southern League in home runs (14), RBI (42) and total bases (102). Despite his huge power numbers, Walker's contact rate has suffered a bit recently. He's now fanned 14 times in his last seven games. His batting average has dropped seven points in that span (.258 to .251).

Twins prospect Adam Brett Walker helped Double-A Chattanooga to a 16-3 win Sunday by crushing his eighth home run of the season.

Walker finished with a game-high four RBI. The 23-year-old is the definition of all or nothing, leading the Southern League in both home runs and strikeouts (40). A whopping 15 of Walker's 24 hits this season have gone for extra bases. A third-round pick out of Jacksonville in 2012, Walker will get eaten alive at the next level if he doesn't improve his contact rate.

Twins prospect Adam Brett Walker left the yard twice Saturday for Double-A Chattanooga

Both homers came in the first game of a double-header. Walker's free swinging approach has been a double-edged sword. He's slugged four homers already but also has 15 strikeouts in only 33 at-bats. Walker should continue to be a boom or bust hitter as he makes his way up through the Twins' system.

Twins prospect OF Adam Brett Walker went 2-for-3 with his second home run of the season on Wednesday for Double-A Chattanooga.

Hitting home runs is nothing new for Walker, who slugged 27 in 2013 at Low-A Cedar Rapids and followed it with 25 last year at High-A Fort Myers. Unfortunately, swinging and missing is also a big part of the 23-year-old’s game, as he owns a 25.9 percent strikeout rate and 71.8 percent contact rate in 1,383 career plate appearances, a majority of which have come below the Double-A level.

Twins outfield prospect Adam Brett Walker went 2-for-5 with a home run for High-A Fort Myers on Wednesday, raising his season line to .244/.293/.447.

Walker had a brutal June, hitting .232/.269/.337, but has bounced back in July, hitting .304/.347/.652 with one double and five home runs in 49 plate appearances. The 22-year-old is roughly six months younger than the average player in the Florida State League, and could see time with Double-A New Britain before the season ends. He has some of the best raw power in the minor leagues, but his swing-and-miss tendencies could prevent him from reaching the major leagues.

Twins outfield prospect Adam Brett Walker went 1-for-4 with a home run for High-A Fort Myers on Friday.

Walker has hit home runs in three straight games, and now has a Florida State League-leading 18 home runs on the season. His power is undeniable, but he has scuffled since the FSL All-Star Game, hitting .172/.234/.379 with four home runs and 18 strikeouts in 16 games.

Twins outfield prospect Adam Brett Walker won the home run derby prior to the Florida State League All-Star game, then went 3-5 with a double and a solo home run.

Walker was named the MVP of the All-Star game. His season line is up to .248/.299/.448 with 14 home runs, and his 73 strikeouts in 271 plate appearances (26.9%) is much too high. He could see a promotion to Double-A New Britain later this summer.
